1 CREMATION SERVICE COSTS At Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home, we feel the public is best served when provided with complete information at all times. This information includes the prices of the services and products we offer. We are often asked how much cremation services cost. In answer, we offer the following explanations and the attached pricing chart. All prices are based on our current General Price List, and are subject to change without notice. Option A: Visitation and Service This is our most complete package. Included are the basic services of the funeral director and staff, embalming, and other preparation of the body (such as dressing and cosmetic work) needed to impart a natural and comforting appearance of the deceased. Use of facilities, staff, and equipment for public visitation with an open-casket viewing is included in this package. Services, with the body present, may be held at the Funeral Home or at a church (use of the hearse is included). Merchandise and service options are many. The merchandise options available, as well as those used in preparing the pricing chart, will be explained by your Funeral Director. Option B: Private Viewing and Service This package is the same as Option A with the addition of privacy. The viewing of the body is private for the family and their invited friends. Following the private viewing, the casket is closed and public visitation and funeral home service (hearse not necessary) proceed without viewing. As in Option A, merchandise and service options are many. The charted example assumes merchandise of a lower price than those used for Option A. Option C: Private Viewing/Family Identification This is the minimal service package. A number of items listed in Options A and B are not found in this package. NOT INCLUDED in this option are embalming (minimal preparation is used instead of embalming), other preparation such as dressing and cosmetic work, public or private visitation, and all services (religious, contemporary, church, chapel, graveside, or public or private services of any nature). INCLUDED in this option are the basic services of the funeral director and staff to arrange for minimum preparation of the body, placing of the body in a crematory-approved cardboard box, private identification of the body, transport and cremation of the body, and return of the cremated remains by personal delivery or mail to the family. Option D: Memorial Service This option is similar to Option C, with the addition of a Recognition/Memorial Service. The casketed body is not present; the urn containing the cremated remains may or may not be present. The Memorial Service is often held at the Funeral Home or another location that is meaningful to the family. If the urn is present, those in attendance may choose to proceed to the cemetery for a graveside committal of the cremains. The charted example includes a cloth-covered viewing box for a more comforting family identification prior to cremation. A suitable urn and urn vault are also included in the example.

You may choose only the items you desire. However, any funeral arrangements you select will include a charge for our basic services and overhead. If legal or other requirements mean you must buy any items you did not specifically ask for, we will explain the reasons in writing on the statement we provide describing the funeral goods and services you selected. Basic Services of Funeral Director & Staff... $ 2,985 Our charge includes funeral counseling, necessary arrangements, recording vital statistics, securing permits, filing and obtaining death certificates and other forms and claims, preparation of necessary notices, and coordination of service plans with parties involved in the final disposition of the deceased. This fee for our basic services and overhead will be added to the total cost of the funeral arrangements you select. (This fee is already included in our charges for direct cremations, immediate burials and forwarding or receiving remains.) Embalming... $ 770 Except in certain special cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as direct cremation or immediate burial. Direct Cremations (Range of Prices)... $ 3,905 to 5,300 Our charge for a direct cremation includes local removal, care of remains, transportation to crematory, basic services of staff & authorizations (excl. ceremony, visitation & crematory charges). If you want to arrange a direct cremation, you can use an alternative container. Alternative containers encase the body and can be made of materials like fiberboard or composition materials (with or without an outside covering). 4 CREMATION CONTAINER PRICE LIST Corrugated Cardboard Container (Plastic Drip Lining only, NO Bedding)... $ 265 This container is the absolute minimum accepted by the crematory. Herculite Cloth-Covered Viewing Box (Completely Lined, with Bedding)... $ 750 This container provides a more comforting appearance at the time of family identification of the body. It is also acceptable for use at public visitations and services. Ceremonial Casket... $ 1,395 When in use, this unit looks like a high-quality Hardwood Casket. This system features a specially designed liner which is equipped with full bedding, lining, and pillow. Prior to cremation, the liner and body are removed. This allows for maximum dignity for the deceased, and fresh bedding, lining, and pillow for every use. $200 discount will be allowed when the Ceremonial Cremation Casket AND any instock urn priced at $450 or more are purchased.
