1 Glden Eagle District Preparing the Eagle Scut Ntebk Octber 8, 2014 Purpse The purpse f this dcument is t guide the Eagle Scut candidate thugh the prcess f creating the Eagle Scut Ntebk that is t be submitted t the Eagle Bard Chair f the Glden Eagle District, as a requirement fr setting an appintment fr an Eagle Scut Bard f Review. This ntebk prvides the initial cntact between the members f the Bard f Review and the Eagle Scut candidate. It is therefre very imprtant that the ntebk be thughtfully and cmpletely put tgether s as t prvide an accurate glimpse f yu, as a prspective Eagle Scut and as a persn. Be aware that this ntebk takes a cnsiderable amunt f time t assemble. Because f this, it is a gd idea t break this int smaller tasks t be accmplished ver several days. Materials needed: Three ring ntebk, with a view binder cver (see image at right). A white ntebk is preferred. Clear plastic sheet prtectrs Tabbed ntebk dividers, minimum f 8 but pssibly as many as 11. Trading card sheet prtectrs (Baseball/Pkeman cards). These sheets accmmdate 9 cards per sheet, arranged in 3x3 frmat. These can usually be fund at Staples r ther statinery stres. Ntebk Assembly Cver. An apprpriately designed page created by the Scut. At a minimum, it shuld include: Scut s name Address Phne number Trp number Cntent - Each sheet needs t be inserted int a clear sheet prtectr. One sectin fr each item listed belw. Eagle Scut Rank Applicatin and written essay t fulfill Requirement #6 (Ambitins and Life Purpse) Obtain the electrnic frm f the applicatin frm Lk fr Eagle Scut Rank Applicatin near the bttm f the page. a. Advancement Reprt (sample shwn at right) Obtain a blank Advancement Reprt, frm # printing, frm the unit leader r the unit Advancement Chair. Fill ut the unit infrmatin alng the tp, including the unit expiratin date (typically the end f the current calendar year, e.g. 12/31/201x). Enter yur name and Eagle Scut fr the award. Leave blank the Date Award Earned. All ther infrmatin will be supplied by the Eagle Bard Chair at the cnclusin f the Eagle Bard f Review. 4. Individual Advancement Histry Reprt This reprt is a summary f all advancement infrmatin (ranks and merit badges) thrughut yur entire Scuting jurney. Obtain the advancement histry reprt frm yur unit leadership. Advancement Reprt #3304 The dates fr all advancement infrmatin n this reprt need t match the dates n the blue cards (see item #9, next page) as well as the infrmatin entered n the Eagle Applicatin (see page 5). Any mismatches need t be crrected in the cuncil recrds by submitting an amended Advancement Reprt alng with supprting infrmatin fr crrect dates. Fr units that use the Trpmaster management sftware tl, the reprt is knwn as the Individual Histry Reprt. Alternatively, this infrmatin may be retrieved directly frm the Cuncil s recrds thrugh BSA s Internet Advancement, which directly interfaces t the ScutNet system

As early as practical, unit leaders are encuraged t retrieve a cpy f their ScutNet advancement recrds s that any discrepancies may be identified and subsequently crrected, if needed, befre the Eagle Ntebk is submitted t the Eagle Bard Chair. Any discrepancies that are encuntered will delay the prcessing f the Eagle Scut Rank. 5. Eagle Resumé (Participatin Reprt) Fr this requirement, yu will need the fllwing infrmatin: Number f nights f camping. List f summer camps that yu ve attended. In rder t fill ut the necessary frm, retrieve the template frm ur district website ( near the bttm f the page. 6. Eagle Candidate Statement Take sme time t reflect n yur Scuting experiences and yur Trail t Eagle. Write a shrt essay t express hw thse Scuting experiences have impacted yu as a persn. Als tell what earning the Eagle Scut rank will mean t yu. Nte: This is very similar t the item listed in #3b n the previus page as well as the final paragraph cntained n the Eagle Resume frm the previus step. 7. Eagle Scut Prject Wrkbk Include the full Eagle Scut Prject write-up. Include all signatures, phtgraphs, lg f hurs, apprved Tur Plan, and any additinal infrmatin detailing the prject changes and results. 8. Merit Badge Cards All earned merit badges must be included. Verify each blue card fr the fllwing: Each blue card is signed by the merit badge cunselr and the unit leader. The date f cmpletin fr the merit badge must match the date n yur Individual Histry Reprt (item #5 abve), which in turn matches the cuncil recrds. Using trading card sheet prtectrs: Arrange the blue cards in the same rder as listed n yur Eagle Scut Rank Applicatin (item #3 abve, and explained further n the next page). It is preferred t arrange them frm left t right, then tp t bttm. Be sure t have the signature side f the blue cards facing utward

If the crrespnding Green/White advancement cards are wned, place them in the same pcket with the crrespnding blue card. Be sure t have the cmpleted side f the card facing utward. Very imprtant: Every earned merit badge needs t be present n the merit badge sash. This will be checked at the Bard f Review. 9. (if BOR will ccur after 18 th birthday), a letter explaining delay If required t include this letter, it must be well written with as much detail t fully explain any delay. The Eagle Bard Chair will let yu knw if this will be required fr yur case. 10. Awards Include any awards (certificates, patches, etc) that were earned in Scuting (even Cub Scuts). Patches can be stapled nt blank sheets f paper, then the cmpleted sheet can be inserted int a clear sheet prtectr. Include any ther awards that were earned (frm schl, etc). 11. Letters f recmmendatin. All letters must be submitted in sealed envelpes t the Eagle Bard f Review. At a minimum, six (6) letters f recmmendatin are required (but mre can be included) and must be frm thse peple listed n the Eagle Applicatin, requirement #2. One additinal letter, frm the unit leader (Scutmaster), must als be included

5 Glden Eagle District The Bard f Review Octber 8, 2014 Eagle Scut Rank Applicatin The Eagle Scut Rank Applicatin is the single-mst imprtant dcument that will need t be cmpleted fr the Eagle Scut award. This frm is actually sent t the Natinal By Scuts headquarters in Irving, Texas t recrd the Eagle Scut Rank. Because f the imprtance f this frm, it must be filled-ut cmpletely and accurately befre it can be accepted fr transmissin t the Natinal By Scuts Headquarters. If any inaccuracies are discvered, the applicatin will be returned t the Scut fr crrectin, which will cause delays in the prcessing f the Eagle Scut award. It is therefre highly recmmended that the applicatin be cmpleted as nearly perfectly as pssible. The frm itself can be filled ut by hand. But if s, everything must be legible, with n crss-uts r white-ut crrectins. Als make sure that each bx cntains nly ne character. Eagle Applicatin # Instead f hand cmpleting the frm, it is highly recmmended that the electrnic frm be used. The frm is psted n ur district website: Near the bttm f the page, there is a link fr Eagle Scut Rank Applicatin. Much f the infrmatin that is required n this frm can be btained directly frm the Trpmaster sftware, the Eagle Applicatin Assistance reprt. When filling ut the applicatin, n abbreviatins shuld be used. Fr example, Rad shuld be used instead f Rd., Street vs. St., etc. The nly exceptin t this rule is the use f the state abbreviatin it is acceptable t us CA fr the state. The applicatin shuld be filled-ut as fllws: Requirement 1 (Life Scut BOR): All necessary infrmatin can be btained frm the Eagle Applicatin Assistance reprt frm Trpmaster. Requirement 2 (Letters f Recmmendatin): Include infrmatin fr thse that have prvided letters f recmmendatin. If any persn s title des nt match the title that is pre-printed n the frm, simply line-ut the pre-printed title and hand write the crrect title. A gd candidate fr this is the Emplyer, since many Scuts are nt yet emplyed, which can be replaced with Scutmaster

Pay clse attentin t the fllwing merit badges: Merit Badge #7, Emergency Preparedness OR Lifesaving: List the date f cmpletin fr whichever badge was earned. Als make sure t line ut (by hand after printing) the merit badge that was nt earned. Merit Badge #8, Envirnmental Science OR Sustainability: List the date f cmpletin fr whichever badge was earned. Als make sure t line ut (by hand after printing) the merit badge that was nt earned. Merit Badge #10, Cycling OR Hiking OR Swimming: List the date f cmpletin fr whichever badge was earned. Als make sure t line ut (by hand after printing) the merit badges that were nt earned. In additin, the crrespnding merit badges shuld be included in the ntebk (Ntebk Cntents, Item #9 abve) and arranged in the same rder as listed here. The listed dates f cmpletin must match the dates f cmpletin n the merit badge blue cards. Requirement 4 (Leadership): All necessary infrmatin can be btained frm the Eagle Applicatin Assistance reprt. Requirement 5 (Eagle Scut Leadership): The necessary infrmatin can be fund in the Eagle Prject write-up. In additin, be sure t include the fllwing: Prject Name: Give the prject a name, including the city. Examples include Therapy Garden Restratin City f Pmna, Band Rm Cabinets fr Walnut High Schl City f Walnut, etc. Ttal number f hurs: This shuld be available frm the cmpleted Eagle Prject write-up. Requirement 6 (Scutmaster Cnference & Ambitins and Life Purpse Essay): Scutmaster Cnference Date. The date f the Scutmaster Cnference. Ambitins and Life Purpse Essay. A shrt essay, a few paragraphs in length (several sentences) describing ambitins, life gals, etc. Certificatin by Applicant: Prvide yur signature, phne number, and date. Be sure t sign with the same clr ink used fr the signatures f the Scutmaster and Cmmittee Chair (see belw). All three required signatures must be in the same clr ink. Unit apprval: Bth the Scutmaster and Cmmittee Chair each prvide their signature, phne number, and date. Their signature shuld be with the same clr ink as the Scut signature. Very Imprtant: All requirements must be cmpleted, and the Eagle Scut Ntebk turned-in, befre the Scut s 18 th birthday. The Bard f Review can ccur up t three mnths after yur 18th birthday as lng as all the ther requirements have been cmpleted befre yur 18th birthday. In exceptinal circumstances, this can be extended up t six mnths after yur 18th birthday. Call the Eagle Bard Chair t schedule an appintment t turn in the Eagle Scut Ntebk. D nt schedule an appintment until all ther requirements have been cmpleted, including the Scutmaster Cnference

Reviews are held at: St. Matthews United Methdist Church (in Ddrill Hall, see map belw) E Newtn St Hacienda Heights, CA Driving Directins As with all meetings with District persnnel, Scuts are asked t present themselves in full Scut unifrm, cmmnly knwn as a Class A unifrm. Please let us knw f any special circumstances that wuld preclude yur ability t meet that expectatin

Very Imprtant: While it may be pssible fr the District Advancement Cmmittee and/r the Eagle Bard Chair t make accmmdatins fr any extremely time-critical deadlines, this shuld be the exceptin and nt the rule. While it is ur gal t be available t every Scut, every Scut needs t understand that we als have ther cmmitments, which include family and wrk, and smetimes travel. T ask us t drp what we are ding in rder t cater t a Scut s time rush, may smetimes nt be pssible. And, t say the least, is very incnsiderate f the Scut. A Scut s 18 th birthday is nt a surprise event - it has been knwn fr many years. Therefre, it is the Scut s respnsibility t minimize his impact and incnvenience t thers because f his wn prcrastinatin. Scuts shuld nt expect thers t make up fr their wn lack f planning. The Eagle Scut Ntebks will be reviewed and will nly be accepted when it has been verified as cmplete. Once the ntebk is accepted, an appintment fr the actual Eagle Scut Bard f Review will be given.
