All four partners are Registered and Official Liquidators and Registered Trustees. With over twenty five years experience and over a decade together, the partners can assist with all of your clients Corporate and Personal Insolvency issues. Now in its ninth year, our practitioners forum rebranded as the PCI Practitioners Forum 2012, seeks to provide accountants with technical information and insight into current matters affecting their practice. 4 2012 forum Speakers In order of appearance Mathew Umina Assistant Commissioner Australian Taxation Office Mathew is an Assistant Commissioner in the Small and Medium Enterprises business line working in the active compliance area. His focus areas include Phoenix operators, Division 7A, professional practices, and the use of alternate dispute resolution. Previously Mathew has worked in technical and case leadership areas within the ATO. He was also seconded to the Department of Treasury where he worked on the design and development of the taxation of financial arrangements (TOFA) regime. Noel Batrouney PARTNER Hall & Wilcox Noel heads the Commercial Dispute Resolution practice group of Hall & Wilcox. Noel handles commercial disputes of all kinds including those arising from the operation of businesses, fall-outs between business owners, and from the acquisition of businesses including franchised businesses. He also has substantial practice dealing on behalf of clients with regulators including the ASIC, ACCC and the revenue authorities. Philip Newman PARTNER PCI Partners Philip Newman is an experienced adviser with over twenty-five years experience in the specialised field of business and personal recovery, reconstruction, insolvency, liquidation and bankruptcy. Philip s experience extends over the full range of formal and informal, personal and corporate advisory services including the preparation of investigative reports, litigation support and formal insolvency appointments. Hugh Elvy Head of Financial Planning, Leadership & Quality Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia Hugh Elvy is the Head of Financial Advisory Services at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia with responsibility for the development and implementation of the Institute s financial services strategy and policies. He has been integrally involved with government and the regulators on the FoFA and related reforms and their implications for the accounting profession. Hugh has over 25 years of experience working in the financial services industry.
5 2012 forum Speakers In order of appearance Rob Power Principal Webb Martin Consulting Rob is a CPA with 20 years tax experience, including 6 years with the ATO and 2 years on the NTAA Hotline. Rob provides advice to accountants, corporates and non-profits on all sorts of income tax, CGT, superannuation and FBT issues ranging from deductibility of car expenses through to off-shore structuring. Rob undertakes independent FBT reviews, is actively involved in assisting taxpayers subject to ATO reviews including AAT representation and has prepared numerous private binding ruling applications and lodged many objections against amended assessments and associated penalties. Rhondalynn Korolak Rhondalynn Korolak is a best-selling author, lawyer, chartered accountant and clinical hypnotherapist. She has distilled the secrets to business and personal success that she learned while working with PWC, Max Factor, Village Cinemas and Coles Group Ltd. and produced a simple stepby-step process that you can apply to boost your influence and your bottom line results. She has appeared on CNN, Bnet/CBS, Channel 7, Channel 9, Kochies Business Builders and 3AW. Andrew O Bryan Partner Hall & Wilcox Andrew is a Partner at Hall & Wilcox and head of the Taxation, Private Superannuation and Private Client practice groups. Andrew advises on a wide range of taxation, structuring and succession planning issues, as well as ATO audit activity in the High Net Worth sector. One of his main interests is advising private business owners on the transition of management and control of family businesses to the next generation. Andrew represents the tax profession on a variety of consultative groups, including the National Tax Liaison Group. Daniel Butler Principal DBA Lawyers Dan is recognised as one of Australia s leading SMSF lawyers. Dan is a regular seminar presenter and a contributing author for CCHs superannuation services, the SMSF Magazine and a range of other publications. He is also the Chair of The Tax Institute s ( TTI ) National Superannuation Committee and is a member of TTI s National Tax Technical Committee and the Law Institute of Australia s Superannuation and Taxation Committees and SPAA s SMSF Regulatory Committee. Dan is also a Specialist SMSF Advisor (SPAA TM).
