2 Tony Robbins (tentative) Opening Plenary Session Wednesday, June 20 th 9:00AM Nikki Cooley E n v i r o n m e n t a l A w a r d s B a n q u e t T h u r s d a y, J u n e 21 st 7:00PM Nikki is the co-manager for the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) Tribal Climate Change Program. She is of the Diné Nation by way of Shonto and Blue Gap, AZ, and is of the Towering House Clan, born for the Reed People Clan, maternal grandfathers are of the Water that Flows Together Clan, and paternal grandfathers are of the Manygoats Clan. Nikki received her Bachelors and Masters of Forestry from Northern Arizona University (NAU) with a few years of post-graduate study at Michigan State University. For her undergraduate and Masters studies, she has worked extensively with the Cherokee Tribe of North Carolina, and has worked with various tribes including the Kaibab Paiute tribe. Prior to ITEP, Nikki has worked with the Merriam Powell Center for Environmental Research on a Climate Change Education Program, and at NAU Talent Search working with underrepresented, low-income, potential first generation college students at 10 middle and high schools in Northern Arizona. In addition, as a river guide and cultural interpreter working on the Colorado River-Grand Canyon and San Juan River, Nikki is the co-founder of the Native American River Guide Training Program and Fifth World Discoveries, was the first Native American President and Vice-President of the Grand Canyon River Guides Association (GCRG), and is a former associate director of the Native Voices Program. She is very passionate about advocating for and education about the protection and preservation of the environment and its resources. Nikki thoroughly enjoys gardening, her Navajo language and culture, and spending time with her large extended family in the southwest and Iowa.

3 Dr. Stanley Atcitty C l o s I n g P l e n a r y S e s s i o n F r I d a y, J u n e 22 nd 11:00 AM Dr. Stanley Atcitty, an energy storage systems researcher for Sandia National Laboratories. In 2006, Atcitty was the first American Indian male to receive a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Virginia Tech. President Barack Obama awarded Atcitty the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2012 for his accomplishments in power electronics for the electric grid and for mentorship in the Native American community. This is the highest honor bestowed by the U. S. government for outstanding scientists and engineers who show exceptional leadership at the frontiers of scientific knowledge during the twenty-first century. Born and raised on the Navajo reservation, Atcitty appreciates the importance of a good mentor. Inspiring and encouraging students is my passion it s where my heart is, he said. He is a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the Energy Storage Technology and Systems department. He leads the power electronics subprogram as part of the U.S. Department of Energy s Energy Storage Program and has gained international recognition for its state-of-the-art research and development under his leadership. Five of his projects have won prestigious R&D 100 awards from R&D magazine. His interest in research is power electronics necessary for integrating energy storage and distributed generation with the electric utility grid. Atcitty has more than 50 publications and holds four patents, with two more pending. In 2007, he received the American Indian Science and Engineering Society Technical Excellence Award for his American Indian community involvement and technical achievement. He was featured in a middle school level children s book, Energy Basics Energized!, published by Sally Ride Science in In 2013, he coauthored Power Electronics for Renewable and Distributed Energy Systems. Atcitty earned his bachelor s degree and master s degree in electrical engineering from New Mexico State University.
