2 Interpreting the Frequency Distributions Report Course-Based Survey Option The course-based option asks faculty members to respond to questions about student engagement based on a course taught during the current academic year. This option is valuable for institutions that want to know more about faculty practices and student engagement tied to individual courses taught on campus. Sample The Frequency Distributions report is based on information from all faculty at your institution who responded to the survey based on their experiences teaching either a lower or upper division course. Faculty who responded based on another type of course or who did not report the course level are not included in this report. Survey Items The items from the FSSE course-based survey option appear in the left column in the same order and wording as they appear on the instrument. Course Level Frequency distributions are reported separately for faculty who teach lower division and upper division courses. Variable Names The name of each variable appears in the first column for easy reference to your data file and the FSSE-NSSE Combined Report.
