3 More Sandwich Lunches Compliments of the Knights Once again a group of hard working knights gathered to make sack lunches for distribution by the Soup Kitchen of Muncie. Knight Tom McComish picked up the groceries: 19 packages of bologna, 16 loaves of wheat bread, 7 bags of apples, 4 packages of 80 cookies, 10 lb of carrots, 150 prepackaged potato chips, 450 reclosable plastic sandwich bags, and 150 paper lunch sacks. Some 150+ sandwiches were then assembled and along with portions of the other foods put into sacks. The lunches were delivered on Thursday, June 15 th and given to waiting clients at the Soup kitchen of Muncie. Here are some photos of the knights who worked on the June lunch assembly line: Knights L-R: Ron Kratz, John Reynolds, Art Wessel, Robert Talbott, Jerry Bricker, Jack Holland, and Dan Lee. Tom McComish took the picture. L-R: Knights Art Wessel, Robert Talbott, and Dan Lee making sandwiches. Knight Jack Holland on cookie detail. Knight Ron Kratz helping bag cookies. Knight Jerry Bricker working with carrots.
4 Assembly Knights Part of Corpus Christi Procession at St Mary Sunday, June18th, was the Feast of Corpus Christi. It has been celebrated with a procession at St Mary for at least the past seven years with a procession. Fr Andrew Dudzinski notes that the procession is led by servers, second graders dressed in their First Communion outfits and then a Knights of Columbus Honor Guard carrying the canopy over the priest with the Blessed Sacrament. The route of the procession includes several temporary Altars where Bible passages are read. Our Assembly 243 Knights are honored to be a part of the St Mary procession. Knights participating this year included Joe Reinhard (Captain), Joe McPherson (Faithful Navigator), Michael Brown, and Daniel Lee. The procession for the special ancient tradition celebrating the Feast of Corpus Christi was beautifully completed. The following photos help to convey a visual snapshot of the notable event. The Corpus Christi Procession with Fr Andrew Duzinski beneath the canopy carrying the Blessed Sacrament began at the St Mary Church entrance. Knights with the canopy are ready for the procession to Start. The Knights Honor Guard included front row L-R: Michael Brown and Daniel Lee. Back row L-R: Joe Reinard and Joe McPherson.
5 What s the difference between being an Insurance Member and being and Insured Member? by Joe Welage, Knights of Columbus Field Agent When the term Insurance member comes up at a Council meeting, it is usually used in the context of the annual quota imposed on the local Council by Supreme Office to qualify for annual Council awards. The yearly goal for each Council is to increase its membership by 6% and to have 2% of Associate members (those who have no K of C insurance products on themselves) become Insurance members (those who have any K of C insurance product on themselves). Any product qualifies. (A Flexible Premium Annuity which requires a minimum deposit of $300 is the lowest cost way to become an Insurance member). However, the term Insured member is used in regard to the eligibility for Fraternal Benefits of the Order. To meet the requirements of being an Insured member, a member in good standing or his spouse must have a K of C certificate requiring an annual premium of $150 (such as a term policy) or providing at least $5,000 of permanent life insurance coverage. An Insured member is eligible for the following Fraternal Benefits: Widow Benefits o Allows the widow of a member to purchase K of C products for up to one year after the death of the member. Orphan Benefits o Provides $80/mo. support to orphaned children of members under age 19. o Provides educational grants for up to $1,750/yr. based on financial need. Family Fraternal Benefits o Provides $750 death benefit for families when a child is stillborn o Provides $1,500 death benefit for families when a child dies before the age of 61 days. o Life insurance plans for physically challenged and mentally impaired children are available to children who would otherwise be uninsurable. (Eligibility for this benefit requires that the child s brothers and sisters, who have not been denied insurance, must be insured under an individual K of C certificate). So, you can see that it is possible to be an Insured member by having a qualifying K of C certificate on your spouse, yet not be an Insurance member if you do not own any K of C product on yourself. If you are an Insured member because you own a qualifying certificate on yourself, then you are automatically an Insurance member. If you are not an Insurance member or an Insured member, why not change that by giving me a call today? Joe Welage, K of C Field Agent, HAPPY 4 TH OF JULY and GOD BLESS AMERICA!
