Welcome to a new year for NEIAHU!! President's Message On behalf of the New Board, thank you for your membership, enthusiasm and support. A very Special "Shout Out" goes to Crystal Michel and Amber Frey who organized our first Summer Social at the Tin Caps - and a very Big Thank You goes to our event sponsor, MedPartners. 31 members and guests enjoyed a wonderful evening of baseball and networking. Fun was had by all. I hope our Social Committee is looking to do it again next year! I am thrilled to have members come to me and ask how they can help. I encourage you to engage in our local, state and even national association. How you want to share your time and talents is truly up to you. I want you to do "What interests you most"! During our board retreat, we discussed the reason why someone chooses to be a member. We watched a short video from Simon Sinek's "Start with Why". "Start with Why" - Simon Sinek TED Talk - You Tube. Feel free to check it out at So, our discussion "Started with Why". After brainstorming, we came to the conclusion that each member's "why" is different. Some join for networking and the social aspect;; others join for the product knowledge and Continuing Education;; some for the legislative and political action, still others participate to hone in on their professional or leadership skill, while a few may be looking for a mentor and some willing to be a mentor. I believe we even have members who may aspire to move up the leadership chain to a State, Regional, or even National position. Whatever your "Why" - we are grateful that you are a part of our organization. We want you to be a part of this awesome team by joining a committee. The chairs are actively recruiting members
3 Justin Finton Retention Chair Linda Parish Public Service Crystal Michel Hospitality Technology/Webmaster interested in learning and getting involved. Not sure where - just Ask! As part of the retreat, your board participated in both a Leadership Training and Strategic Planning session as well as 7 members traveled to Columbus Ohio for the Region 3 Leadership Conference. What great energy and enthusiasm for this "Awesome" Association we call NAHU. Leaders from the 6 states in Region 3 were in attendance. We had presentations from region chairs from the various committees, as well as Janet Trautwein, NAHU CEO, Skyped in to give us a legislative update and status on several items our national team has on their radar in Washington, D.C. You'll hear more about this from our Legislative / HUPAC committee over the next several months. We have a great start to our planning for the upcoming year, however, we still have lots to do. Please take an active role in your chapter by volunteering your time and talents. August Events include: August 17 th meeting will host a 1 CE hour (pending) presentation from FSSA on the new HIP Link as well as celebrate our Chapter's successes this past year. It's a new program that's part of the state's HIP 2.0 program that could help tens of thousands of working poor in our state. The State of Indiana has reached out to ISAHU to discuss the upcoming launch of HIP Link. It's an optional "third leg" of the new Healthy Indiana Plan that will help low-income Hoosiers afford their employer-sponsored health insurance plans. HIP Link is a defined contribution premium assistance program that provides each enrollee with a $4,000 Personal Wellness and Responsibility Account, or POWER account. This account pays for the employee's premium and other costs for employer-group health insurance. Over the next several weeks and months, we'll be hearing a lot about HIP Link. ISAHU is encouraging the state, namely the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, to present the HIP Link program at upcoming chapter meetings.
7 In the meantime, here are some basics about the program: Businesses of all sizes can participate including fully insured or with selffunded plans. Employers interested in offering HIP Link as an option to their employees can join the program by registering with the state to become a HIP Link employer. Their health plans will need to meet minimum benefit and affordability standards. (Small-group health plans that are updated to meet the 2014 Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements will meet the benefit requirements to participate in HIP Link. ) Basic requirements for a business to register include having a federal employer identification number, employing 50 or fewer full time employees, and having at least one employee that is an Indiana resident. To qualify, employees or dependents must be at least 21 years old and, just like in the HIP program overall, have a household income at or below approximately 138 percent of the federal poverty level ($16,436 per year for an individual and $33,865 for a family of four). They also must meet other HIP eligibility requirements. Employers will deduct the employee cost of premiums charged from the employee's pay, per normal procedures. In turn, the State will reimburse the employee directly for the amount of the deduction. The state will also fund a portion of the employee's out-of-pocket costs for the employer-sponsored insurance. HIP Link provides a real advantage to employers, because it can help them to enroll more employees in their health plan and help them meet health-plan participation requirements. Additionally, small employers using the SHOP marketplace may receive tax benefits. If the employer offers vision and dental, these benefits will be eligible to be reimbursed by HIP Link. Indiana has never had a premium assistance program like HIP Link. In this time of massive insurance changes, complex legal mandates and economic hardship, HIP Link is an excellent opportunity for us to grow our business while offering another benefit avenue for employers, and potentially improving employee retention and job satisfaction.
