Finstad that the Committee approve the agenda with the following additions: VIII. Malli, Chief Financial Officer, Edmonton International Airport. R. Malli made a PowerPoint presentation (Attached). R. Malli, I. Sasyniuk and L. Pantin, Manager, Economic Development, answered the Committee s questions. IV. BUSINESS ARISING FROM PRESENTATIONS There was no business arising from presentations.

REPORTS FROM COMMITTEE & ADMINISTRATION a) Mayor s Special Award Mayor G. Krischke confirmed that additional names have been put forward for the Mayor s Special Award, and acknowledged the contributions made by those individuals. Mayor G. Krischke advised that the recipient of the Mayor s Special Award has been determined. b) Communicating Procurement Opportunities J. Cannon, Director, Finance, and I. Sasyniuk, General Manager, Corporate Services, made a PowerPoint presentation (Attached) on reverse trade shows. J. Cannon, I. Sasyniuk and P. Benedetto, City Manager, answered the Committee s questions. Administration will reach out to other strategic partners concerning hosting/participation in a reverse trade show and will report back to the Committee. c) Procurement Process Less Than $5,000 J. Cannon, Director, Finance, and I. Sasyniuk, General Manager, Corporate Services, made a PowerPoint presentation (Attached) on buying and supporting local. J. Cannon, I. Sasyniuk and K. Resvick, Purchasing Officer, answered the Committee s questions. Administration will look into making improvements to the City of Leduc website in order to make it more user friendly relative to procurement processes. d) Economic Update J. Cannon, Director, Finance, and C. Thorn, Financial Analyst, made a PowerPoint presentation (Attached). Councillor T. Lazowski exited the meeting at 6:40 p.m. J. Cannon answered the Committee s questions.
3 CONFIRMED COMMITTEE-OF-THE-WHOLE MEETING NOTES MONDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2017 PAGE 15 The Committee recessed at 6:56 p.m. The Committee reconvened at 9:05 p.m. VIII. INFORMATION ITEMS a) Canbuildit Fundraiser Councillor D. MacKenzie suggested that as a fundraiser for the Leduc Food Bank a miniature replica of the Leduc Recreation Centre be made out of cans. This endeavor can include volunteers, Administration and students alike. The competition begins March 1 st and must be completed by a date to be specified. Committee members support Councillor D. MacKenzie s suggestion. Councillor D. MacKenzie has agreed to lead the undertaking. b) Leduc Art Club D. Melvie, General Manager, Community and Protective Services advised Council that the Leduc Art Club needs support immediately to complete a business case with a very specific scope of work relative to space assessment, costs, development of a business model and long term funding strategies. The information is necessary for inclusion into the 2018 budget master plan. D. Melvie advised that there are funds in the current budget to provide the grant being sought by the Art Club, and in providing the funds Administration will be very clear on the expected outcomes of the business case. The Woods House assessment will be deferred to c) Outlet Mall Opportunities Mayor G. Krischke stated that with the opening of the outlet mall the City of Leduc has an opportunity to promote itself, and capitalize, on the opening of new businesses and the potential for the staff of the new businesses to become City new residents Committee members were in agreement to having L. Pantin, Manager, Economic Development, look into promotion of the City relative to this opportunity. d) 2 nd Leduc Scout Association Councillor B. Beckett attended the Baton Powell Annual Banquet of the 2 nd Leduc Scout Association ( Association ). At the banquet the Association presented a Certificate to the City of Leduc as a thank you for the grant received and for the City s ongoing support.

7 3/3/2017 Collaboration For an effective reverse trade show and to maximize the benefits to the vendor community, a variety of public agencies should be represented. In the Leduc region, this could include: Surrounding municipalities (e.g. Beaumont, Devon, Millet, Calmar, Thorsby, Wetaskiwin, Leduc County, Leduc) EIA Schools and school boards Other provincial and federal agencies that operate within the region (e.g. Leduc Food Processing Centre, AHS, RCMP, etc.) AAMDC & AUMA (purchasing programs) Concluding Remarks A reverse trade show would be better hosted and / or organized from a provincial level, or through AAMDC / AUMA / LNEDA / Leduc Regional Chamber of Commerce or through Economic Development and Chamber Associations. 3
