9 WHY NEVADA Vineyards Professional Campus 5 Unrivaled Job Growth The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) and members of the Economic Planning Indicators Committee (EPIC) released the EPIC Report (Northern Nevada Regional Growth Study ) in September, The report provides four possible growth scenarios for a five-county study area that includes Washoe, Storey, Carson, Douglas and Lyon Counties. According to this study, the region is forecasted to see job growth between 47,400 to 56,600 and population growth ranging from 42,400 to 64,700 during a five-year period ( ). Current employment is about 230,000 people and a population of just under 500,000 in the metro area. The study indicates that Washoe County is seeing steady and improving demographic and employment growth and the economy is becoming increasingly diversified due to a proactive regional business recruitment and retention strategy. Northern Nevada is supported by locational/transportation advantages which include access to Interstate 80, Union Pacific Mainline Rail, inexpensive reductant power sources and superior fiber connectivity. The region has a renewed focus on advanced manufacturing which is paying dividends. Reno experienced a 14.7 percent growth in manufacturing employment over the past five years. Sectors such as healthcare and clean energy are also experiencing strong growth. In January, 2016 Nevada s unemployment rate hit the lowest in the past five years and there are many companies that have recently relocated or expanded to Northern Nevada to thank, some of these notable companies include: Notable Relocated Companies to Northern Nevada Tesla/Panasonic selected Northern Nevada as their location for the world s largest and most advanced battery Gigafactory. The first 1.5m sq. ft. building of the 10m total sq. ft. became operational in Tesla is expected to bring 6,500 jobs to the area and add 20% to the region s GDP. Switch is constructing be the world s largest data center...the SUPERNAP. They are under construction on the first of seven buildings that will total 6.4m sq. ft. on 1,000 acres. The company is expected to hire thousands of employees. Switch is also constructing a fiber hyperlink (known as the Switch SUPERLOOP) which will connect Reno, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco in under 7 milliseconds. Apple acquired 345 acres in the 2,300 acre Reno Technology Park for its $1 billion itunes data center that will consist of 14 buildings totalling 412,000 sq. ft. Additionally, Apple s Brawburn Capital, its money management division, is headquartered in south Reno investing billions in this tax free state. Ghost Systems, a cyber security data firm, recently moved its headquarters to Reno and plans to construct a larger underground data center in the Reno Technology Park. Economic development officials anticipate this company to be a large high tech employer bringing 150 jobs to the region. Clear Capital with 400 financial and technology jobs recently moved its headquarters to Class A office space in Downtown Reno. E-Commerce site Jet.com has opened a 160,000 sq. ft. west coast warehouse and distribution center in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. 10 WHY NEVADA Vineyards Professional Campus 5 tahoe Reno Industrial Center (TRI Center) Largest Industrial Park in the World and a Key Player in Job Creation! The Tahoe Reno Industrial Center is a remarkable and vast 107,000-acre park that encompasses a developable 30,000 acre fully-entitled master planned industrial complex slated to accommodate over 300 million square feet of building GLA upon completion. TRI Center currently has approximately 15,000 acres in Phase I, Phase II and Phase III zoned for industrial use, with plans of future expansion. This vast park is intended to be a mixed-use, nonresidential development, consisting of a wide range of industrial, office and commercial businesses. There is approximately 11 million SF of industrial space now in use by almost 130 companies. Storey County has taken an aggressive, pro-business stance toward development by guaranteeing issuance of building permits within 30 days of plan submittal and having all industrial uses pre-approved to enable fast-tracked permitting. Some of the largest e-tailers and retailers in the country already call the TRI Center home, such as Walmart, Petsmart, Chewy.com and Diapers. TRI Center has also successfully attracted a number of large manufacturing and data center facilities including Tesla, Panasonic and Switch.
