3 PAYE, NI, pensions and employment law update 4 September 2017 Dr Ros Martin is a consultant and lecturer covering all aspects of direct tax and Stamp Duty Land Tax. Until 2002, Ros was a fully trained Inland Revenue Inspector. She is now a consultant advising on tax planning for large and small businesses and individuals, as well as dealing with full and aspect enquiry work. Her clients are mainly small and medium-sized accountancy practices. Her consultancy work means she understands the key issues of concern for accountancy professionals, and the practical application of the legislation. There have been some significant changes in employment taxes, with new legislation introduced, changes in emphasis by HMRC and the increasing influence of employment law issues in this area of tax. This course will consider these changes including a review of the recent case law. We will include a review of the IR35 changes for public sector clients, consider the new termination payment provisions, touch briefly on share schemes and consider how employer compliance might change in the Making Tax Digital world. Any changes in relation to NI and pensions will also be covered. Identifying Cybercrime and Preventing Fraud in the 21st Century 2 October 2017 Dr Stephen Hill is an expert trainer and consultant with over 18 years experience providing services to the private and public sector in fraud (cyber) risk management, data security/protection and internet investigations, and open source intelligence. He is a Trustee Director of the Fraud Advisory Panel and chairs the Fraud Advisory Panel s Cybercrime Working Group with colleagues from the public, private, and third sectors. Understand the current threats of cybercrime Identify how cybercrime could affect your organisation Protect your organisation from cybercrime with effective preventative techniques. Legal issues affecting owner-managed businesses 6 November 2017 Louise Dunford has been continuously involved in training and consultancy, both for professional firms and for commercial organisations since Professional clients include Kingston Smith, BKR Haines Watts, BDO Stoy Hayward, Chantrey Vellacott DFK, Blick Rothenberg, the ACCA, the British Postgraduate Medical Federation, the Swedish Ministry of Justice, the Royal Aircraft Establishment and a number of NHS hospitals. Louise specialises mainly in aspects of practical employment law, company law and professional negligence, and has published widely in leading academic and professional journals. A topical and interactive course discussing the major legal developments in the last 12 months and considering their impact on accountants and their clients running small and medium-sized businesses. The course will be fully updated at the time, but is likely to include most, if not all, of the following topics: Company law Restrictive covenants and protecting the purchaser of the business key lessons to be learned Money laundering impact of the 4th Directive Data protection developments coming from Europe Employment law. Charity update 4 December 2017 Mike Ulrich is a training consultant and presents courses on a wide range of topics. His experience includes training director of a top 20 practice and part-time lecturer in accounting at a London University. He also has his own practice and helps assists another with audit and accounting assignments. The application of the accounting framework to charitable organisations in England and Wales The application of the Companies Act Regulations to charitable companies Update on legal changes over the last two years affecting charities in England and Wales and the impact on the work of the accountant and auditor The application of the SORP and key differences SORP (FRSSE) and SORP (FRS 102) Reporting on charities Other aspects of interest to the accountant and auditor Observations by the CCEW on charity annual reports

4 Inheritance tax and trusts 5 February 2018 Jeremy Mindell has been lecturing in taxation for over 20 years. An accomplished and entertaining speaker, Jeremy is in high demand for tax, pensions, share schemes and remuneration events. He has developed a specialism in international corporate tax, including the new diverted profits tax, transfer pricing and the OECD BEPS project. Jeremy is one of a few individuals in the country who has both qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor but also has a Masters from the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development. One of the most valuable reliefs, the Residential Nil Rate Band (RNRB) came in to effect at the beginning of the tax year. Bu it is complex and likely to catch out the unwary. This course looks at different aspects including: Downsizing relief Beneficiaries RNRB and Trusts The taper of the relief. We will also look at the extension of the IHT charge to all UK residential property and the side effects for companies and trusts as well as the current planning opportunities within trusts, particularly in connection with: Reversionary leases, Nil rate bands, Offshore property, Vulnerable dependents. The final part will look at the effect of the extension of Disclosure of Tax Avoidance Schemes (DOTAS) on IHT planning. Finance Bill March 2018 Mark Ward qualified with Arthur Andersen in 1989, having previously worked in the tax departments of a small and a medium size firm. He has been lecturing on a wide variety of tax matters for over 20 years to qualified practitioners and industry specialists in the UK and overseas. His ability to quickly establish a rapport with his audience, and discuss complex matters in a practical and understandable style has led to Mark becoming much in demand on the lecturing circuit. This course will cover provisions of the current Finance Bill/Act, explaining how the major changes in the Finance Act will affect clients. Identified planning areas and pitfalls will also be covered. Other current developments in taxation as they affect practitioners and their clients may also be included, depending on the significance and relevance of the Finance Bill/Act. Course content includes: Business income tax Corporation tax Employee tax and national insurance contributions Personal tax Capital gains tax Inheritance tax Administration. Accountancy update 9 April 2018 Guy Loveday is a partner in the Professional Training Partnership and a director of PTP Limited. He is a member of the lecturing panels for ICAEW, ICAS and the ACCA. He specialises in auditing and financial reporting updates (new UK GAAP, IFRS and US GAAP) for accountants in practice and in industry, and in finance courses for members of the wider financial community. The course will include: Renegotiation of loans under FRS 105 and FRS 102 Achieving a true and fair view under FRS 102 Section 1As encouragement regime Latest changes to FRS 102 including simplification of directors loans Any other relevant developments leading up to the course Topical tax tips 21 May 2018 Giles Mooney is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser, he has been involved in UK tax training for nine years. He started his career with a small firm of accountants and tax advisers, before working as a director of a large professional training company. He has written for a number of publications on various UK tax and business issues including writing PTP s own monthly publication Professional Tax Update. Giles entertains and educates professionals several days each week running tax seminars throughout the country. The course will tell you about the latest developments in direct taxes which give rise to planning opportunities and pitfalls that you and your clients need to exploit or avoid. Full coverage will be made of all relevant press releases, statements of practice and case law decisions, and the emphasis will fall heavily on the practical ways in which you can help your clients to exploit the opportunities and avoid the pitfalls.
