4 Acting as an Executor and Trustee THURSDAY 18 OCTOBER 2018 IVY HILL HOTEL 09:15-12:45 Amanda Fisher, AJF Taxation This course is a good insight for those wishing to carry out trust and probate advisory work as an additional service to clients and grow their businesses. It is also an ideal opportunity to appraise the planning opportunities and risk areas of these services to ensure we are minimising tax liabilities and avoiding pitfalls. A review of relevant tax cases to consider when acting in a capacity as a trustee or an executor, together with numerous examples and illustrations make this a practical and informative course. Acting as an Executor: Probate services, regulations and related work The application for a Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration The IHT400 inheritance tax return Obtaining the Grant and finalising the Period of Administration Paying tax liabilities and making distributions Acting as a Trustee: Responsibilities, powers and risks of acting as a Trustee Trustees expenses Managing our trusts and minimizing tax Planning income and capital distributions The formalities of ending a trust Case study of a will trust created at death, showing tax implications CP299 Capital Taxes and the Family Business THURSDAY 18 OCTOBER 2018 Amanda Fisher, AJF Taxation This course will be suitable for any practitioner who advises clients on the Capital Taxes Issues of a Family Business. A review of relevant tax cases and numerous examples and illustrations make this a practical and informative course. Amanda will bring a client case study to each of the course to offer some practical experience on achieving the maximum tax efficiency. 7 VAT Common Problems and How to Solve Them WEDNESDAY 1 FEBRUARY 2019 Neil Owen, VAT Advisory Services Limited To review recent developments in VAT, including case law decisions and changes in legislation, and identify key issues and opportunities affecting businesses. The course is not aimed at VAT specialists, but is intended to provide an understanding of the situations in which VAT problems arise, and when advice from a specialist might be helpful. Many of these reliefs are complicated but, more importantly, under used by the businesses concerned. The course is designed, with the use of examples, to give an overview of these new reliefs and how they can be used to minimise a company s tax bill.
