2 STAFF REPORT TO: FROM: Mayor Gunning and City Council Kristin Baumgartner, Finance Director DATE: April 15, 2015 FOR: SUBJECT: April 21, 2015, City Council Meeting February 2015 Tax Collection Reports Summary February 2015 sales tax collections were up 1.32% compared to February In 2014, February was up almost 8% from 2013 which was not typical for February so being up this year as well, even if only slightly, is still a positive sign. Total year-to-date 2015 sales tax through February has increased 6.19% over 2014 which is above budget projections. Top twenty vendors outside of Park Meadows Mall showed a decrease in February of 1.94%. Year over year, these vendors have increased 0.66% through February. Collections of all tax types (sales, use, admissions, and lodging) were also up by 2.60% in February 2015 over February 2014 and are up year to date overall by 7.22%. All three of the other tax type categories are coming in strong through February with yearto-date, taxes being up for lodging by 18.0%, admissions is up by 18.5% and use tax is up by 19.8%. Park Meadows Mall vendor sales were up in February 2015 compared to February 2014 by 3.84% and up 10.21% year to date. This increase year to date is a result of many of the new restaurants that are open in 2015 were not open in early Top-twenty Mall vendors were also up slightly in February 2015 over February 2014 by 0.75% and are up year to date 6.99%. 3 The City s tax department issues monthly collection reports that summarize the total collections for the current month as well as year-to-date comparisons for current year total collections versus prior year total collections. Updates are made yearly to the Top Twenty outside Park Meadows Mall (PMM) and the PMM Top Twenty vendor reports based on tax remittance figures for the prior full calendar year. Mayor and Council receive the following collection reports: Total Sales Tax Yearly Comparison Comparing total sales tax revenue from the current year to the prior year. Top Twenty Sales Tax Vendors (Outside Mall) Top-twenty sales tax vendors located outside of the Park Meadows Mall. Top-twenty vendors were selected by review of total 2014 sales tax remitted. Removed from the Top Twenty report is Mike s Camera, replaced by Colorado Ski and Sport for Total All Taxes Yearly Comparison Comparing total tax revenue, including sales, use, admission, and lodging taxes, from the current year to the prior year. Park Meadows Mall Total Yearly Sales Tax Comparison Comparison of only the total Park Meadows Mall sales tax revenue from the current year to the prior year. Park Meadows Mall Top Twenty Vendors Top-twenty sales tax vendors located inside the Park Meadows Mall, which is the City s largest single revenue geocode. Top-twenty mall vendors were selected by review of total 2014 sales tax remitted.
