1 NEWS FROM THE GLEN Newsletter of Glen Allen Fall 2016 Change in Annual Assessment Due Date As reported earlier the HOA Board of Directors has decided to change the current assessment due date of January 1 to a NEW due date of April 1 beginning with the 2017 assessment. The Board realizes that the January due date may have been difficult for some as it falls just after the holiday season when expenditures are often higher than normal. Hopefully, the new due date will relieve these financial stresses. There will still be a budget hearing in November, but your payment coupons and the approved budget won t be mailed out until February. Payment will be due April 1. Leaf Pickup Fall is officially here! Come November the City s leaf vacuum collection begins. Just rake your leaves into piles at the edge of the grass by the curb for pickup. Please DO NOT rake them into the street as that can clog storm drains and is considered a City Code violation. Each community is given two dates when the City will come through vacuuming up the leaf piles. Glen Allen is scheduled for November 3 and December 9. Happy raking! Budget Hearing November 1, 2016, 7:00 PM All Saints Lutheran Church Mt. Oak Road (corner of Rte 301 & Mt. Oak Road)
2 Dog Issues Complaints continue about dogs. Not dogs so much as their walkers. Please pick up after your dog. To do otherwise is against both the Bowie City Code (Chapter 4, Section 4-17) and Glen Allen s Declaration of Covenants (Offensive Activity), plus it s just un-neighborly. Sooner or later, pet waste left on the ground will find its way into our storm drains and rivers, adding to their pollution. NO EXCUSES, especially pick it up if it is: Where people will walk (e.g. a sidewalk or the paved portion of the bike path) In front of, in the driveway or walkway of, or in the yard of a residence other than your own. Please keep your dog on a leash while walking him or her. Even a wonderfully sweet-tempered pooch can lash out if irritated by something only another dog would understand. Keep control of your dog when he or she is out. Your neighbors will thank you! 2017 Meeting Dates In an effort to save money and ensure that our annual assessments remain at $175, the HOA Board of Directors has decided to reduce the number of official Board meetings it holds during the year. Each meeting is attended by our ProCom property manager, Toni Sponheimer, the cost of which is part of our ProCom contract. Reducing the number of meetings reduces the amount we owe ProCom. Although we have always met once a month except for December, many HOAs do not hold monthly meetings. Some meet as little as three times a year. In 2017, the Board will meet every other month in the first half of the year and every month in the Fall/Winter when there is more work to do. All meetings will be on the second Tuesday of that month at 7:00 PM at the All Saints Lutheran Church on Mt. Oak Road (corner of Rte. 301 and Mt. Oak). All meetings are open to residents. The meeting dates for 2017 are: February 14 April 11 June 13 (Annual Meeting) September 12 October 10 November 14 (Budget Hearing) 2
