P 1 Capacity Expansion at Jebel Ali Port DP World is integral to the economic development and the progress of Dubai and the UAE. We continue to position Jebel Ali Port as the gateway port of choice to handle cargo destined for the Middle East, India and Africa regions. In 2011, we saw a 12 percent YOY increase in volume with a record throughput of 13 million TEU. The port has unparalleled connectivity with over 170 shipping lines, 98 weekly services to over 115 direct ports of call and delivers our customers a high level of efficiency. As the largest and busiest container port in the region, Jebel Ali Port is the preferred port of call for major global ship operators, who continue to order ultra large container ships (ULCS) in line with current liner trends. We embarked on the expansion of our current terminal 2 as well as the development of new Terminal 3. Work commenced on Terminal 2 in February this year, scope of the expansion is to extend the quay by 400 m; this would increase quay length in terminal 2 from 2.6 kms to 3 kms (an additional of 400 m) which will take the container handling capacity at Terminal 2, from five million TEU to six million TEU by May With this, Terminal 2 will be able to consecutively handle seven of the largest container ships currently sailing the ocean. As it stands today, progress has been made to demolish the existing breakwater, piling or foundation works for both STS* and RMG** are currently underway, The Quay wall work is ahead of schedule and over 80 percent of the underwater blocks are already in position. DP World has also embarked on building a new container terminal at Jebel Ali Port Terminal 3. Terminal 3 will be one of the finest modern marine terminals in the world with a quay length of 1,860 metres, a draught of 17 metres, and a 70 hectare storage yard. When operations commence at the new terminal in 2014, total capacity at Jebel Ali will reach 19 million TEU. The infrastructure at the new terminal will include the deepening of the channel depth to accommodate the next generation of container ships with a capacity of 18,000 TEU. DP World, UAE Region has already signed agreements with local and international companies for the supply of 19 Ship to Shore (STS) quay cranes and 50 Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes for this development. These quayside and gantry cranes will be equipped with sophisticated technology and are designed to deliver peak productivity and efficiency for our shipping lines. DP World is the third largest marine terminal operator in the world, with 10% of the world market share in container handling. We remain committed to continuing to meet the needs of the region s growing markets and will continue to invest in line with market demands. Our expansion plans will further strengthen Flagship facility, Jebel Ali Port s position as the most efficient and modern gateway for cargo in the region and enhance its role as an economic growth engine.

P 3 Updates from Mina Al Hamriya DP World UAE Region caters to all sectors of trade in Dubai Mina Al Hamriya plays a key role in facilitating noncontainerised cargo movements between Dubai and countries in the Gulf, South Asia & East Africa. A traditional port historically and Mina Al Hamriya was used for carrying out trade much before Mina Rashid and Jebel Ali Port were developed. Today it has a rather distinctive value proposition. It is a unique port with its offering being able to cater to all types of vessels from wooden dhows to bulk, break-bulk, RoRo ships at its 14 berths with a draft of upto 6m. Few know that Dubai Municipality s Veterinary Division operates a quarantine location at the Port, adding to the unique features offered by the port and making the port of choice for the livestock importers. Mina Al Hamriya is currently being modernised to a general cargo facility. The master plan is focused on maximising cargo storage and handling capabilities as it fits into our overall strategy and commitment to nurture trade. As part of the first phase, one million square feet of yard has been paved, fenced, and gated. These open yards are now available for lease for traders and logistics companies. The location of the port is strategically designed to cater to the traditional customer base here, including traders from Iran, Iraq, Africa, South Asia; freight forwarders; consolidators etc. Proximity to Deira market, which is one of the largest trading hubs of UAE, makes the Port an attractive choice for traders. Mina Al Hamriya offers all essential facilities and services for the smooth and operations like secure and bonded zone with lighting and power, telecom connectivity, 24x7 security monitored by CCTV, new control tower equipped with latest marine equipment. A new IT network has been installed to link the operations with the gate and control tower. Also the project covered redeveloping the main gate, new signboards and the control tower. Further enhancements include redeveloping the main gate, new signboards, and drainage system. The second phase includes a modern facility for the exclusive use of the fishing industry at the port. Construction work has already begun on the facility and is due to be completed this year. The development will create a new 1,650-metre long wharf with a capacity to accommodate 190 fishing boats. Our expansion plans are in direct response to the needs of our customers and the fishing community and are aimed at delivering sustainable value to our customers through operational innovation. Upcoming African Cluster Purpose built infrastructure comprising of yards (out of port premises), shops, showrooms, restaurants, community facilities, Proximity to Deira market, easier transportation and connectivity, warehousing, storage, consolidation possibilities - lowering logistics costs; scalability & lease options on land and varying sizes available making it suitable for freight forwarders and traders.

P 4 EHS at DP World DP World believes that a sound safety and environment approach to business is a need to have and not a nicety. This sustainable approach will delineate us from the competition by attracting new business, retaining existing and upcoming talent, reducing both direct and indirect costs, streamlining our business and reducing the impacts that safety and environmental related incidents can have in a business environment. It is also part of our commitment to our staff and shareholders that by improving our safety and environmental performance we are valuing our people and those that invest and trust us. As an example DP World s flagship port, Jebel Ali Port, has recently achieved the dual milestone ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 certification. This milestone is the culmination of two years of collaboration between Operations and Safety and Environment Department to achieve the requirements of the international management system standards. Whilst this achieves the corporate guidelines for our businesses that span the globe, the achievement was notable for the umbrella certification that contains Container Terminal 1, Container Terminal 2, General Cargo, Marine and Technical Departments. DP World recognises the importance of certification and understands that this is beginning of a continual improvement journey. This achievement is as much a part of the continued modernisation of our industry as the advent of automated port activities, which incidentally is one of Jebel Ali s next milestones when Terminal 3 opens to service the futuristic mega vessels that will soon be carrying over TEU. Other elements that showcase our commitment to safety and environmental performance are our recent local award for sustainable transport. Our automated gate installation has reduced the waiting time for vehicles at the gate which in turn saves fuel for our valued customers and increases productivity. This awards was given by the RTA at a recent awards night where our Managing Director, Mr Mohammed Al Muallem received the award from RTA officials. Another first for DP World was being one of the only port operators to report publicly to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). The CDP is an independent not-for-profit organization working to drive greenhouse gas emissions reduction and sustainable water use by business and cities. The CDP advises numerous investment funds holding over 74 trillion investment dollars. Our carbon reduction target in place since 2009 using 2008 as our benchmark year. At present our container terminals have reduced our carbon output by 26% through a range of innovative projects. The Safety and Environment Department in Jebel Ali is honoured to be able to contribute to our quarterly newsletter. We hope to update you in the future about proposed and pilot programmes that showcase DP World innovation.

P 5 Corporate Responsibility at DP World, UAE Region Corporate Responsibility (CR) during the holy month of Ramadan Helping children in need has been a top priority for DP World UAE Region throughout the year and especially during the Holy Month of Ramadan. In 2012, community activities comprised of supporting hundreds of orphans, special needs children and Palestinian children needing medical care. The initiatives were organised in line with DP World s corporate responsibility commitment to contribute positively to the communities where it operates. For the second consecutive year, we donated to needy orphan families through the Beit Al Khair Society, a UAE charity organisation where the DP World team undertook the responsibility to sponsor 500 orphan children. The support provides financial and/or logistical aid to orphan students throughout their education until graduating from universities and further equip the children to make their living independently. DP World, UAE Region also sponsored a fundraising Iftar organised by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation in support of the Palestine Children s Relief Fund, a non -profit body founded in 1991, providing free medical treatments for children and aiding the humanitarian crisis facing Palestinian youths in the Middle East. We organised Iftar meals for over 700 workers every day at our flagship facility in Jebel Ali, in addition to collecting books that will be sold during the Pink Book Fair in October, with the proceeds donated to the breast cancer awareness campaign Safe and Sound. Blood Donation Drive at the traditional Mina Al Hamriya Over 50 employees donated blood at a special blood donation camp set up at Mina Al Hamriya on 28th August In line with the company s Corporate Responsibility objectives, a campaign was organised to raise public awareness about disorder and to contribute muchneeded blood to the Dubai Blood Donation Centre run by Latifa Hospital and Dubai Health Authority. As part of the campaign, e- fliers were also distributed to more than 100 employees at Mina Al Hamriya, and other companies operating in Mina Al Hamriya informing them about Thalassemia, which renders the body incapable of synthesising blood properly and requires the sufferers to have a complete blood transfusion once a month throughout their life. In cooperation with the Emirates Thalassemia Society and the Dubai Health Authority, DP World, UAE Region is leading the initiative to prevent Thalassemia through a threephased campaign Awareness, Prevention and Blood Donor Registration to curb the prevalence of Thalassemia in the UAE and support those currently living with Thalassemia.

P 6 Tidings DP World Orders Cranes for New Container Terminal at Jebel Ali Port DP World, UAE Region on September signed agreements with local and international companies for the supply of 19 Ship To Shore (STS) quay cranes and 50 Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes for its 4 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) capacity Terminal 3 development at the flagship Jebel Ali Port. The new container terminal will be 1,860 metres long, with a depth of 17 metres to handle multiple next generation container liners simultaneously, and a 70 hectare yard. Total capacity at Jebel Ali will reach 19 million TEU when Terminal 3 opens for business in DP World, PCFC Security Department Sign Strategic Partnership to Enhance Efficiency On 10 th September 2012, DP World, UAE Region, signed a strategic partnership document with Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) Security Department. The partnership aims to achieve enhanced alignment of planning, training, crisis management, and information exchange of security related activities at Jebel Ali Port, Mina Rashid and Al Hamriya Port. Three-month long Beat the Heat campaign focuses on outdoor workers in the ports DP World has rolled out its annual Beat the Heat campaign at all its facilities in the UAE, detailing practical ways to safeguard against the dangers of prolonged heat and sun exposure. The campaign started from 5th July The summer initiative predominantly focuses on outdoor workers in Jebel Ali Port, Port Rashid, Mina Al Hamriya and Fujairah Container Terminal, and will last three months. During the on-going campaign, special packs will be distributed to 6,000 employees deployed in the operation areas such as the terminals, container freight stations, and in the technical, marine and general cargo departments. Each pack consists of special cooling neck-bands, fast-hydrating drinks and information on protection against extreme hot weather. Interim Result Update: DP World announced its results for the first six months on 30th June An 18 percent growth in Middle East, Europe and Africa region helped DP World to record 12 per cent growth in its profits before tax to $310 million (Dh1.13 billion) during the first half of this year. DP World s revenues increased 10 per cent to $1.52 billion while earnings before interest, tax, debts and amortisation (EBITDA) rose 11 per cent to $672 million. Mina Rashid Resumes Passenger Ferry Services to Regional Destinations The sea-borne passenger connections between Dubai and port cities across the Gulf region have resumed on August 13th 2012 at the newly upgraded and refurbished Mina Rashid Passenger Terminal, operated by DP World. The first ferry arrived carrying 190 passengers from the Port of Bandar Lengeh in Iran. The vessel later departed with 250 passengers on board. The resumption of the ferry services will complement DP World s ongoing plans to expand Mina Rashid s capacity to cater for the growing demand of cruise tourism in the region. 10 P 8 Maiden Calls The Lighter Side Name: MV NYK Themis Vessel Type:: Container Company: WNYK Date of Call: 09/07/2012 Why a vessel called she? The exact reason why boats are called she in English is lost to history. Boats are a truly interesting case in English, as they are among the only inanimate objects that take a gendered pronoun, whereas most others are called it. Countries are also called she, as are cars sometimes, but the latter example is almost certainly an extension from boats. One plausible theory is that boats are called she because they are traditionally given female names, typically the name of an important woman in the Name: OEL Gujarat Vessel Type: Container Company: China Shipping Line Date of Call: 17/07/2012 life of the boat's owner, such as his mother. It has also been surmised that all ships were once dedicated to goddesses, and later to important mortal women when belief in goddesses waned. Interestingly, although male captains and sailors historically attributed the spirit of a benevolent female figure to their ships, actual women were considered very bad luck at sea. A second theory as to why boats are called she points to the existence of grammatical gender in most Indo-European languages besides English. While Modern English has hardly any grammatical gender, Name: GMA Garnet Vessel Type: Bulk Company:: Wilhemsen Date of Call: 31/07/2012 limited for the most part to cases of natural gender, such as the nouns "woman" and "man" being called she and he respectively, there is evidence that English once has a more extensive system of grammatical gender, similar to that in languages such as German and French. In most Indo- European languages with grammatical gender, the word for "ship" is feminine. In Old English texts, there is more evidence of grammatical gender, such as a shield being called she. The Culture Corner Arabic Coffee Rediscovering the spirit of traditional drink If it weren't for the Arabs, there would be no Starbucks and no skinny latte, no whipped to go. Coffee is said to have originated in Ethiopia and been transported through Arabia before reaching Europe. When you are in the UAE, especially on business, coffee, as well as tea, will often be offered to you in offices and at Arab's homes as a symbol of hospitality. It is not considered appropriate to decline taking coffee since the tradition of offering coffee is Bedouin, and thus offering coffee is symbolic of hospitality. The coffee is called Kahva. The coffee is poured from a pot similar to Aladdin's lamp, into a small cup called finjaan, which is about the size of an espresso shot. The pot, called a dallah, usually has a long spout and is made from brass. A shake of the cup shows that you have finished. - Not shaking the cup and giving it back to the server will result in another cup being poured. - If you prefer another drink before the server comes around with the spout and are offered, then do not be afraid to ask. - Only use your right hand when drinking, eating or offering. - Sometimes, but not always, dates will be offered with the coffee.
