2 Dear Readers, Welcome to Mina Q As a nation UAE celebrated its 42nd National Day and DP World proudly was a part of the festivities as they put together a grand and colourful event for their staff. As with the nation the event too had a great display of historical, cultural as well as modern elements de ning what UAE is all about was a de ning year in many ways beginning with the expansion of Terminal 2, to the various visits by the BIE team assessing Dubai as a potential city to present the World Expo 2020, and eventually leading up to landslide victory to host the prestigious event. In this issue of Mina, we reminisce the entire journey of the nation's vision to a reality, with a story covering right form the initial bid up to its triumphant win. Corporate Responsibility being one of our key commitments, did take a priority position this quarter with a number of activities. We also won the Seatrade Award for Corporate Social Responsibility! More sections, including tidings, quarterly result updates, Culture Corner and 'Beyond the Gate' will provide insight to the activities at DP World. It was on November 2nd, 2011 that the UAE nominated Dubai as a candidate city for the World Expo 2020 and submitted the application to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). Then the race started! Four other contenders had already entered the race arena Yekaterinburg, Russia; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Izmir, Turkey; and Ayutthaya, Thailand. The competition was erce, one is a former superpower turned energy exporting giant, the other one of the world's largest and fastest-growing economies. Izmir, meanwhile had narrowly lost out to Milan in the Expo 2015 bid. Later in Nov 2011, a high-powered team headed by the Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chief Executive of Emirates Group, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum gave a detailed presentation to the BIE team at the French capital. The presentation was focussed on the UAE's strengths and credentials as a potential host for the World Expo Later in February 2012, the Higher Committee for Hosting the World Expo 2020 was formed, with Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum appointed as Chairman and State Minister, Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemy, appointed as the Managing Director of the committee. The committee af rmed that Dubai is enthusiastic and fully committed to delivering an exceptional World Expo in 'Connecting Minds, Creating the Future' was introduced as the theme for the bid. In today's highly interconnected world, a renewed vision of progress and development based on shared Since 1851, World Expos have provided signi cant opportunities to engage the world community in a shared project. This is also our goal here in Dubai where we unite people and cultures from across the globe every day - Dubai Civil Aviation Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Group Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The victory of Dubai in hosting the World Expo 2020 is an opportunity for all the young and diverse minds, to think outside the box and blaze ideas for stronger paths Dubai Expo 2020 will undoubtedly be a platform for connectivity to help pioneer new partnerships for growth and sustainability for the future. 1

DP World celebrated the 42nd National Day of the UAE with Emirati-themed activities and performance for customers, business partners, employees and friends at its global Head Of ce in Jebel Ali Port & Free Zone. Hundreds of people including high-level DP World customers, government of cials, police of cers, senior managers and employees, attended a aghoisting ceremony led by His Excellency Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Vice Chairman, DP World, and Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region. UAE National Day is an occasion where we stand and recall the UAE's achievements and the vision of the leaders which guides every National and residents in the pursuit of excellence. Celebrating National Day reinforces everything we stand for as a nation. DP World is proud to be a locally rooted international company, beginning operations shortly after the UAE was born and remaining steadfast as a contributor to the economic diversi cation and success of the country DP World, UAE Region celebrated the National Day on a special note this year, having set a new record by handling over 10 million TEU (twenty-foot Cultural activities included a parade by the Dubai Police band and local performances of Ayallah, Yolla, Na'ashaat, Habban, and Lewa. Further, there were cultural corner activities including display of Bedouin handicraft and traditional weaponry, and serving traditional Emirati cuisine and qahwa. Onsite engagement activities included a photo booth, container art, camel rides and much more. Local corporate responsibility partner, DSN, Al Noor and Special Needs Future Development Center were also active with booths and awareness initiatives. Scores of volunteers queued up at a mobile blood collection bus to contribute blood for thalassemia carriers a cause passionately supported by DP World.

Of ce marking the occasion. Clean up UAE, 12th Dec 2013 : DP World organised a cleaning campaign on occasion of UAE Clean-up day on the 12th of December 2013.

The event attracted over 200 participants which included Group CEO Mohammed Sharaf. The team collected over 4 tonnes of waste from the site!

6 3 Community Engagement UAE Flag Day, 3rd Nov 2013: DP World celebrated UAE Flag Day marking the accession of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan as President of the country in 2004, in response to the national campaign launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to mark Flag Day. Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, UAE Region along with other senior of cials and staff hoisted the UAE ag at Jebel Ali Port at DP World Head Of ce marking the occasion. Blood Donation Campaign, 27th November 2013: A blood donation campaign was organised on occasion of the 42nd UAE National Day. Many volunteered to donate blood for the DHA's blood donation center resulting in a total contribution of 120 pints! Omar Bin Khattab School Robot Club Opening: DP World sponsored the building of the Robot Club at the Omar Bin Khattab School to help a number of children bene t in learning the most advanced technology to come.

7 4 Expansion Updates Container Terminal 3 We are getting closer to unveiling the future. The development of T3 is well under progress. The team has been putting infrastructure, hardware and technology in place. Jebel Ali has taken delivery of the rst four ship-to-shore quay cranes for the new Terminal 3, due to open in This is the rst batch of 19 quay cranes due to be delivered in the next few months and installed on the 1,860m long and 17m deep quayside at the 4 million TEU capacity terminal. They join the rst four of 50 Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes that arrived in November.

11 The wind tower, a symbol of UAE culture and heritage, is not just ornamentation but an early form of air conditioning. The open tower allows cool breezes to circulate around the inside while allowing hot air rise and escape. For a house in the desert, the last thing one wants is open windows to let the sand in. For generations, wind towers were the solution. Usually positioned on one corner of a house, they were made of stone, mud brick or gypsum plaster, and stood around three to ve metres above the roof, ideally with vents facing in the direction of the sea, to catch the cooler air. Just like an open window, the tower catches the air, which then lters down into the living area below, creating a cool air stream. Often, the towers were wrapped in wet fabric, to increase their cooling power. They came into use sometime after 1850, which we can still see today in settlements such as the Bastikiya, one of the oldest residential areas in the city of Dubai. Culture Corner quiz corner?
