As we reflect on 2017, we will begin to analyze and renew our school improvement goals for the remainder of the school year. The students are working hard and making strong gains in their learning. To our students, keep up the amazing work! You make us proud each and every day! Parents, your ongoing support of your children s learning is vital to their success and we appreciate your collaboration. February marks a month long celebration known as Black History Month. It is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the important contributions and achievements of African Americans throughout our nation's history. Students have already been researching and working on projects to honor many of these men and women. I look forward to seeing their amazing work displayed in the hallways of PGE! I want to thank you for your continued support of Poplar Grove Elementary! We could not do it without you! Respectfully, Heather Walsh, Principal 2/22 Scrip Orders Due to Office 11:00am 2/23 Report Cards Sent Home Kindergarten Registration Kindergarten registration for the school year will be February 7th and 15th from 4:30-7:00 P.M. If you (or anyone you know) have a child that will be 5 by September 1, 2018, please attend this registration. This will be the only registration for upcoming kindergarten students for the school year. If there are any questions please contact your home school for information. The items you will need to bring are your child s certified birth certificate, proof of residency, and payment. All forms are available at the North Boone School District website under the families tab.

2 P A G E 2 Read To Succeed READ TO EARN FREE TICKETS TO MAGIC WATERS AND SIX FLAGS GREAT AMERICA! Please encourage your child to participate in the Books are Fun and Read to Succeed programs. These programs are great opportunities to earn tickets to use this summer. If your child reads 360 minutes or more between now and February 2nd they will earn a free ticket to Magic Waters. If they read more then 360 minutes between now and February 20th they will earn a free ticket to Six Flags Great America. Please make sure to complete each program s reading log and return them to their teacher. No reading logs will be accepted after the due dates. Magic Waters log due February 2nd Six Flags log due February 20th Scrip Program Don t forget to order you scrip cards for all your shopping needs! Scrip is a program that allows you to raise funds for our school while you shop. You purchase gift cards from PGE at face value and we order those cards from Scrip at a reduced price. The difference is an instant rebate for PGE. We will send order forms home or they are available in the office each week. All orders are due each Tuesday by noon and pick up is Friday s from 12:30-3:00. One School..One Book One School, One Book will be kicking off on in February. One school, One Book is a program sponsored by Sam s Club/Walmart, where PGE families will be issued a book that we will read with our own family at home each evening. Every morning we will have trivia questions about the chapter from the night before. This is a great opportunity to spend some quality time as a family. P O P L A R G R O V E Please be watching your youngest student s backpack for this year s book and schedule. The title will be announced the first week in February, until then it is kept a secret. This is always a fun time at PGE to hear the creative ways each family reads their book. We hope everyone enjoys this year s story.

3 P A G E 3 Pre Kindergarten Developmental Screening North Boone Family Centered Pre Kindergarten program will have screening for children 3 to 4 years old in District #200. The developmental screening will be held at Capron Elementary School on a monthly basis on the following dates; Feb 8, Mar 8, and Apr. 12. Please call Capron Elementary School to schedule an appointment. The children are screened for possible selection to participate in school year in the North Boone Pre-K program. Children will be taking part in an individual screening process which will take about an hour for each child to complete. If you would like to take advantage of this program, which is designed to provide free educational services for eligible children in District #200, please call between 8 am and 3:30 pm. A parent or guardian must accompany the child to Capron School, 200 N. Wooster. Parents need to bring a copy of the child s birth certificate and Social Security number with them to the screening. El program jardín de infancia centrado de la familia de North Boone tendrá examenes para los niños de 3 a 4 anos de edad en el district #200. Los examenes de desarrollo se llevara a cabo en la escuela primaria de Capron sobre una base mensual. Por favor llame a Capron las escuela primaria para una cita.
