3 Participation Policy (keep for your records) Tempe Preparatory Academy Extracurricular Performing Arts Students who participate in Extracurricular Performing Arts (ECPA) are asked to cooperate with the following policies. Fees The fee for participation in each group is due by the second regular meeting of the group. Fees partially offset the cost to Tempe Preparatory Academy for fielding the group. Nonpayment of fees is grounds for removal from the group. In school year , the participation fee for groups that meet throughout the year is $80 per year. Parents are advised to contact the business office via to make payment arrangements. Fundraising Students who participate in semester-long ECPA groups are expected to make an effort to help raise funds for TPA s extracurricular programs, especially through the Arizona tax credit program. Other fund-raising projects can help offset the cost of trips. Attendance Attendance at rehearsals and performances is required in order for a student to participate in each group. Nonattendance constitutes grounds for removal from the group. Students may be restricted from participating in performances or trips or both if the student has missed one or more rehearsals prior to the performance or trip. Punctuality Student performers are expected to be in place ready to perform at the beginning of rehearsal. Arrival at the rehearsal room at least 5 minutes early is recommended. A student who is tardy twice during a semester is on probation. The third tardy will result in the student being replaced. A student s tardiness may be excused only if the parent contacts the director, preferably in advance if possible. Student-offered excuses for tardiness will not be considered. Music scores and folders Music/drama scores, and folders belong to Tempe Preparatory Academy and are loaned to student participants during the course of the semester or season. Scores and folders are to be checked in to the ECPA department assistant when the director indicates the group has completed its work with them. Students will be assessed a fee for unreturned folders or music. Occasionally, Tempe Preparatory Academy will rent scores or books for productions, for example for Opera Workshop. These items are extremely expensive and, unfortunately, if a student loses or does not return such an item, the replacement cost and an additional fee will be passed on to the student. Travel ECPA groups sometimes will undertake field trips or performance trips. Students must complete the normal TPA permission and hold harmless forms in order to participate in any TPA-sponsored trip. Instrument storage Instrument storage lockers are provided in the TPA Zelman Center against the south wall. These lockers are sized for most wind instruments and some stringed instruments. The intention is that the storage lockers be used for temporary (during one school day) instrument storage. Students are encouraged to take their instruments home and practice between rehearsal days. Students are responsible for providing their own
4 instruments for TPA ECPA groups. TPA will not be held liable for damaged musical instruments. The following constitutes the understanding about TPA music lockers and locks: 1. Musical Instrument Lockers and locks are the property of Tempe Preparatory Academies and remain at all times under the control of the school. Students and parents are asked not to use their own locks for instrument storage lockers. 2. Student assumes full responsibility for the lock and locker issued. 3. Student is expected to keep locker locked at all times and to keep the combination from others. 4. Student is expected to return the lock at the end of the school year. 5. Locker privileges will be revoked if the assigned lock is not on the assigned locker. 6. Student may not switch lockers without permission from the Fine Arts Department Director. 7. Tempe Preparatory Academies retain the right to inspect music lockers for any reason, at any time, without student consent. 8. A music locker fee will be assessed to the student s account. 9. A lost lock will incur a replacement fee. AMEA regional auditions and solo and ensemble festival Arizona Music Educators Association requires that students who wish to participate in regional choir, band, or orchestra auditions be members in good standing of the respective groups in their local high schools. At TPA, good standing means registering for and participating in the relevant extracurricular performing arts group at the time of the audition. Registration is complete after the completed form is submitted and the appropriate fees paid. Registration for solo and ensemble festival and regional auditions must be completed through the ensemble director and is due in mid-november of each year. Cancelation Policy: The last day to cancel and receive a refund for each semester is Friday of the 2 nd week of rehearsal. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN FOR CANCELLATIONS after that point. To cancel your registration, contact Louise Wolfe in writing, or LWolfeTPA@gmail.com. Refunds will be credited to the student s TPA account. Staff addresses Please address your questions and concerns to your student s director first. Prescriptions Gift Cards to other stores this can really increase your earnings check out the list on the back Pay with your Fry s Rechargeable Gift Card. You can see how much money is left on your card on the receipt under the total. You can use the money still on the card on subsequent shopping trips. The program runs year-round, you never need to get a new card, just keep refilling and using this one. The card will expire if you leave a $0 balance on it for more than 60 days if it does, just get a new one from us. It will never expire if there is money on it. How do you get the money into your TPA account? Twice a year (in September and February), Fry s sends a rebate check to the school for 6% of the total amount loaded to the card for the past 6 months. When this check is received, 60% of the rebate earned will be credited to your child s fee account at the school, 40% will go into the TPA general fund. Over $54,000 has been earned on this program since February of The amount that can be earned is unlimited and is dependent entirely upon participation. Your friends and family can use a card toward your student s fee account (even out of state at any Kroger store). Let us know if you need more cards! And the fine print... These cards are just like cash, do not lose them. Although the amount earned can be carried to future years, when your child leaves the school, any amounts earned that have not been used cannot be refunded to you and as such, if your child is no longer enrolled when the rebate check is received by the school, the full amount of the rebate will be credited to the school s general fund. The amount earned can be used for any of your children. These funds can be used to pay for any of your child s future fees please do not leave unpaid fees sitting in your account waiting for the rebate check. Pay the fees as they come due, the rebate will post to your child s account when it comes in and it can pay fees that hit later. The card you have been given has a unique serial number on the back. We have recorded which family has which card by serial number. If you lose this card, get a new one from us and we will update our records.
