1 Staff Benefits Explained We like to reward the people who help us deliver world-class education and training with a range of generous benefits. In fact, we think our benefits package offers some great perks. Below is a summary of our benefits. 1. Annual Leave There is a generous annual leave scheme, as follows: 52 days plus bank holidays for lecturing staff 30 days, rising to 33 days after 5 years service, plus bank holidays, for support staff 37 days plus bank holidays for management staff 2. Parental leave The College has a number of family friendly policies, including flexible working, parental leave and enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave. 3. Sick leave Depending on your length of service and on compliance with sickness absence notification and certification procedures, you can receive up to six months full pay and six months half pay during sickness absence. 4. Final Salary Pension Scheme The College offers a final salary pension scheme for all staff. There are two schemes: Teachers and Lecturers can join the Teachers Pension Scheme. Childcare Vouchers Scheme The College offers a Childcare Voucher scheme whereby some of your salary is paid in childcare vouchers. Childcare vouchers can be used as full or part payment for a range of childcare options. You can be paid in vouchers in amounts of up to 243 per month. Because the vouchers are exempt from tax and national insurance, staff claiming the maximum of 243
2 per month in vouchers can save over 900 per year off the cost of their childcare arrangements. Staff on the higher tax rate can save more than this. To apply for the scheme please select and complete either the E-Voucher Childcare Application Form or the Paper Voucher Childcare Application form on the HR section of the Intranet, then return the form to the HR department. Cycle to Work Scheme What are the benefits? Big savings on the cost of a new bike and safety equipment Pay monthly and save Income Tax, National Insurance and VAT Get any make & model from a choice of local bike shops Make your requests on-line Cycle to work scheme The College pays for the bike initially and deductions are then made from your monthly salary. This salary sacrifice arrangement has benefits for you in terms of tax. The College sells the bike to you at a fair market value at the end of the loan period. You can apply for your bike package using a secure voucher. Employee Assistance Programme (Workplace Options) The College s Employee Assistance Programme is a dedicated information and counselling support service available to you, your family and significant others. The programme is arranged via WPO (Workplace Options) previously known as EAR. The primary contact is by phone and the number is You can call WPO 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, the WPO website, contains lots of online support and advice on a range of subjects including work, wellbeing, parenting and ageing. The website includes a new online tool called PocketSmith Personal Financial Manager, to help you manage your personal finances. Cottage Stay UK/Hotel Stay UK Hotel Stay UK College staff, their friends and families can obtain hotel and short break discounts, both in the UK and worldwide, with Hotelstay UK. TasteLondon TasteLondon, the Capitals largest diners club is exclusively available through the City & Islington College, for just (Normally 69.95) Being a member of TasteLondon enables you to get 50% OFF the total food bill at over 1000 fabulous restaurants in London and the Home Counties for a whole 12 months. Restaurants include popular chains such Pizza Express, STRADA, GBK and Prezzo, as well as many high end additions from Marco Pierre White, Aldo Zilli and Mark Baumann so should help anyone who enjoys eating out save a small fortune over the next year! For those joining TasteLondon, a deduction of will simply be taken from your next wage. This benefit is offered to staff twice a year in March and November. Look out for details on the College Intranet. 10. Aquaterra Leisure Club Membership The College has negotiated discounted gym membership for staff, at the Aquaterra leisure centres. The leisure centres are located at Archway and Finsbury Park, Caledonian Road, Highbury Crescent, Ironmonger Row, Market Road and Hornsey Road. College staff can save over 50% on a Corporate Platinum and Gym Membership, with payment options available to you through the College. Several college staff have now signed up to take advantage of a payroll savings scheme which allows you to have your savings deducted directly from your pay, making it easy to save. With over 1,600 members saving regularly, the credit union now has over 1,000,000 of savings. This pool of savings forms a pot from which members can then borrow at very low rates of interest. A loan of 1,000 over a year would be only 66 in interest! Part of the borrowers repayments are set aside in a savings account so the member has a cash lump sum when the loan is finished. Virgin Active Membership Virgin Active offers great facilities such as the Steam & Sauna, Power Plates, Ladies gym, a variety of cardiovascular machines and fully equipped studios where you can attend a selection of different classes. 6 17. Costco As an employee of City & Islington College you are eligible to join Costco. Costco operates a chain of cash & carry warehouses that sell high-quality, nationally branded and selected private-label merchandise at low prices to businesses purchasing for commercial use or resale, and also to individuals who are members of selected employment groups. Costco is an exclusive wholesale cash and carry membership warehouse club and is not open to the general public. Membership is required. To join you simply need a pay slip and a home utility bill or bank statement and then join in store. The cost is 25 +VAT and this includes a free spouse card.
