4 My Choice Quick Reference Guide This material does not, and is not intended to, provide comprehensive information about My Choice or any particular My Choice benefit. Please use this and other documents in conjunction with the full Terms and Conditions of My Choice and the information applicable to each benefit in the My Choice section of the My Benefits website. KEY to following pages: (T): (NI): (C): You will not pay Tax on this benefit. You will not pay National Insurance contributions on this benefit. This is a Core Benefit. Annual enrolment once a year you have the opportunity to make changes to all of your benefits (some exceptions do apply). Life Event outside annual enrolment, you have the opportunity to make changes to certain benefits following significant events in your life and career e.g. birth of a child, change in job grade, going on or returning from maternity leave. Life Event changes must be made within 30 days of the event occurring. Anytime Event some benefits are continually available to change via an Anytime Event e.g. changes to your pension scheme, Charity Donations, Childcare, Retail Card, Cycle2work and Car Lease Plus. New joiner if you are a new employee, you will have up to 30 days from your start date to make your initial enrolment and create your personal benefit package. 4
5 Savings & Retirement Defined Contribution Section (DCS) of the HSBC Bank (UK) Pension Scheme (T) (NI) (C) This benefit provides you with savings for your retirement. HSBC will contribute 10% on the first 20,000 of DCS pensionable salary (pro-rata for parttime), and 9% on salary above this. Your employer contributions and any contributions you choose to make are paid into your DCS account and are subject to the Scheme Earnings Cap (currently 135,000). You can also choose to make matching contributions and Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs) at any time. Making contributions is currently a tax efficient way of saving for your retirement. You can start making contributions or change the amount you contribute through My Choice using the My Benefits website. HSBC will match contributions you make, up to a maximum of 7%* of your pensionable salary. This means, if you maximise the matched contribution option, you could get around 23% of your pensionable salary in to your DCS account every month. You must then log on to your personal account my pension, or via the My Benefits website to select where you would like your contribution payments to be invested. * please note: you can choose to make contributions over 7% but these will not be matched by HSBC. For more information visit The value of investments can fall as well as rise and you may not get back what you ve invested. For some investments this can also happen as a result of exchange rate fluctuations as shares and funds may have an exposure to overseas markets. The value of the tax benefits will depend on your individual circumstances. Tax laws could change in the future. 5
