3 Key findings - The NP and living in Pirton Excellent response rate: 80% of households took part across village. Respondents aged from 16 to 96. A third of households in Pirton have children and a third have someone aged 65+. Living in Pirton: The vast majority (93%) of people are satisfied with living in Pirton and like it the way it is. It is this rural, countryside, friendly, welcoming community that people of Pirton are keen to see remain over the next 30 years. More demand for downsizing than upsizing amongst current population. Support for the Pirton Neighbourhood Plan: 88% of people living in Pirton believe it is important to have a Neighbourhood Plan. Amenities & facilities: The shop, Post Office, pubs, village hall, recreation ground and school are vital parts of village life (as is the fish & chip van). Even those who don t use them agree the bus, church, JoyCare and Good Neighbour Scheme are important to keep. 3
4 Key findings - Development Development in Pirton between now and 2031: 48 houses over the total time period. About 13 houses built every 5 years. This is a similar rate of development as the previous 30 years. If PIrton is to significantly grow (by 100+ houses by 2031) everyone agrees facilities and amenities need expanding. Development should include additional primary school facilities as well as improved communications, off road parking, facilities for young people and pre-school. Infrastructure and growing too quickly are key worries. As are losing village & community feel. Affordable housing for villagers a key benefit. Ideal housing in Pirton: Several small developments (<10 houses). A variety of styles and sizes of houses but predominantly 2 and 3 bed semi-detached houses. Houses for local people to downsize to as well as starter homes for first time buyers. Predominately houses with gardens. Predominately off road parking (2 cars per house). Location: Preference for infill over extending current village boundary. 23% of people in Pirton choose Priors Hill South for development, 11% Holwell Turn and 17% both locations. 4
5 Key findings - Environment & communications Environment: 95% say it is important to have green space between Pirton and neighbouring villages and towns. 95% say it is important to minimise impact of development on woodland, hedges, footpaths, bridleways, green lanes, ponds, streams, verges and geological features. 93% say it is important to minimise impact of development on historical buildings and heritage sites. 93% say the views / vistas approaching and leaving the village are important (very or quite) to them. Support for reduction in speed limit to 20mph. Communications: 88% say improved broadband service in Pirton is important to them. 89% say improved mobile services in Pirton is important to them. Demographics: Most houses currently 3 or 4 bedrooms. Houses currently owned but desire for rented and shared ownership. Pirton is regular working place for a fifth of working adults (12% of all adults). Half of working adults sometimes work at home. Households most likely to have 2 cars of which 4/5 parked off road. 5

7 Background Consultation to inform questionnaire: Yellow feedback forms - Included in Parish Magazine and delivered to every household - 40 returned Summer Fair (12th July 2014) - Stall positioned near entrance inviting people to write comments under six headings post-it notes written /Facebook/Website Group discussions Plus review of other neighbourhood plan questionnaires and local planning documents and reports Questionnaire design took place between May and October The survey dates were widely advertised across the village and ample opportunity was given for people to take part. 7
8 Methodology Sample Adults aged 16+ living in Pirton Youth questionnaires were also distributed Fieldwork 15th November - 7th December 2014 Method Questionnaires were hand delivered to each house in Pirton by a number of reps. Reps returned a number of times to houses to maximise chance of finding someone at home. If after several calls they had no contact they left a card inviting people to call for questionnaires. At each house the number of adults and young people was recorded and appropriate number of questionnaires handed out. Households returned their individual and household questionnaires in an envelope collected by their rep. Sealed envelopes were returned to The Insight Fountain. Data from questionnaires was entered by independent data entry company in London. Aggregated data tables supplied to The Insight Fountain who has conducted analysis. 8

A high response rate means low response-bias. We assume the missing people are a random group and have similar views to those who answered. However, even if they had opposing views the response rates are so high, and most questions so clearly in favour of a certain view point, that even if non responders had completely opposing views it wouldn t change key results. 9

Multiplied together, these two elements provide the overall response rate, which in 2013 was 51%. British Crime Survey The Crime Survey for England and Wales, previously the British Crime Survey (BCS), is one of the largest social research surveys conducted in England and Wales. It asks people resident in households about their experiences of crime in face-to-face interviews. Around 1,000 interviews were carried out in each police force area in 2010/11. 33 Disadvantages of development in Pirton The current infrastructure of the village especially with regard schooling could NOT support an unprecedented increase in population.
