3 FAMILY ARTS & CRAFTS DEPARTMENT Please read this book carefully and completely as there are several changes this year. If there are any questions please contact the Fair Secretary's Office at (219) or you may call Andrea Fox at (219) The Secretary's office opens, Monday, June 5, Entries will be accepted at the Secretary's office after that date. However, you may also mail your entry forms to the Lake County Fair, P.O. Box 327, Crown Point, IN 46308, any time before the DEADLINE: FRIDAY JULY 14, 2017 If mailed, they must be postmarked on or before Friday July 14, EXHIBITOR'S TICKET An exhibitor's ticket (except Creative Kids) must be purchased by each exhibitor and will permit one person and a car to enter the gate for an unlimited number of times. The price of the Exhibitor's ticket is $15.00 and if paying by check should be made payable to: Lake County Agricultural Society. The Exhibitor's ticket will be issued at the time of bringing in the first exhibit at its appointed time. Where entries are made and the exhibit is not brought to the Fair or if the item does not meet stated criteria no refund is given and the exhibitor's ticket is forfeited. -1-
4 GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS Entries in the Family Arts and Crafts department are not limited to residents of Lake County. Exhibits must be made or prepared by the exhibitor and shown in his/her name, except antiques and collectibles. All exhibits shall have been produced during the past 3 years unless stated otherwise and not shown before in the Family Arts & Crafts Building at the Lake County Fair. All entry forms must be in the Secretary's office with the exhibitor fee no later than 4:00pm on Friday July 14, No information, tags or passes will be mailed. Each exhibitor may make entries in as many classes as they desire but only one entry can be made in any one class number. A separate entry form is to be used by each exhibitor and both copies are to be mailed or brought to the Secretary's office at the time of making the entry. One entry per line on the entry form. You will not receive a copy. Please make a copy or record your entries before submission. Give the full name on the entry form not initials. ENTRIES CLOSE AT 4:00pm ON FRI. JULY 14, No substitutions or changes or additional entries may be made after the entry form has been submitted to the Secretary's office. If more forms are needed, contact the Secretary's office. -2-
5 Exhibitors are urged to make their entries early and to give careful attention to filling out the entry form. Any article which is not entered in the proper section will not be accepted. All exhibits for the Family Arts and Crafts Department must be brought to the Family Arts and Crafts Building and will not be accepted at any other building. Exhibits arriving after the stated time of entry according to various departments, as stated under each department - will not be accepted even though the entry form was submitted on time. While the Fair will use all diligence to insure the safety of articles after their arrival and during the Fair, IT WILL IN NO CASE BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR. Entries are accepted on this condition. JUDGES DECISIONS ARE FINAL. Exhibitor's are not permitted to be in attendance during the time of judging. In the case of conflict between general and specific rules, the latter will be followed. Awards will be paid according to the way the entries are recorded in the official judge's book. The Fair will not act as a selling agency. No article can be shown in the department with a "FOR SALE" tag -3-
6 NO ALCOHOL, ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES OR WEAPONS ALLOWED ON THE FAIRGROUNDS. NO ANIMALS ARE ALLOWED ON THE FAIRGROUNDS UNLESS THEY ARE EXHIBITING OR ARE IN USE AS A SERVICE ANIMAL. EXHIBITING ANIMALS ARE ONLY ALLOWED IN THE SPECIFIC SHOW AREA. ALL EXHIBITS WILL BE RELEASED TUESDAY, AUGUST 15, 2017, 9am -7pm. NO EXHIBITS WILL BE RELEASED BEFORE THIS DATE. If you have won in the food classes, you may pick up your check and ribbon at this time. Articles removed without permission before the release date will FORFEIT any premium money and ribbons. EXHIBITOR'S TAG Exhibit tags are used for the identification of articles in the Family Arts and Crafts Building and will be furnished. You may pick up your tags in person at the Secretary's office July 21, 2017 from 9am-4pm. If it is more convenient, tags may be obtained at the time of bringing in articles for judging. Please be sure the tags are securely attached to the articles before registering for judging. Write on the back of the tag how many items you are entering in the section, EX: Bells(6) EXHIBITOR'S - PLEASE BRING PINS, TAPE, RUBBER BANDS, ETC. TO USE IN ATTACHING YOUR EXHIBIT TAG TO YOUR ARTICLE. Attach the large section of the exhibit tag to the article for judging and keep the lower part of the tag for your exhibit pickup at the time of exhibit release. -4-
7 OPEN HOUSE All Family Arts and Crafts Department exhibitors are invited to attend an Open House in the Family Arts and Crafts Building on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017 from 7pm-9pm. Present your special OPEN HOUSE tickets at the WEST door of the building. Each person must have their own ticket. NO CHILDREN EXCEPT THOSE WHO EXHIBIT. DUE TO HEALTH AND ALLERGY CONCERNS, THERE WILL BE NO FOOD SERVED. SWEEPSTAKES ROSETTE BEST OF SHOW A sweepstakes rosette ribbon will be awarded to the best exhibit in each section within each department. This will not receive any added premium money but will be included in the judging for the "Best of Show" ribbon to be awarded in each department. PRETTY AS A PICTURE PIE CONTEST (NEW DAY) This year's Lake County Fair will once again have a Pie Day on SATURDAY, August 5, All pies are to be brought to the east door of the Family Arts and Crafts Building between 8:00am - 8:30am so that judging may be completed by noon. There are 5 categories of pies and they may be one or two crust or lattice. Please use either a 8 or 9 inch size pan. If using foil, place on a sturdy piece of cardboard, or double the pie tin, for transporting. If needed, cover carefully with plastic wrap. Pans that need to be returned must be picked up that day. We will not be responsible for any damage or loss. -5-
8 As entry time is before the opening time of the Fair, it will not be necessary to have an Exhibitor's ticket in order to enter this contest. You may make one entry in each of the 5 categories below. Prizes will be a blue ribbon in each category. A Best of Show ribbon will be awarded. FRUIT - apple, apricot, peach, cherry, raisin and rhubarb. BERRY - grape, blackberry, blueberry, gooseberry, raspberry, strawberry, and mixed berry. MERINGUE - lemon, chocolate, butterscotch, coconut, vinegar and banana. REFRIGERATED PIES - non baked filling. MISCELLANEOUS - german chocolate, chess, pumpkin, sugar cream, mincemeat, and nut. All pies may be picked up Saturday, August 5, 2017 after 12:00 noon. ANTIQUES Exhibits in this department are to be brought in Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 8am to 7pm. Exhibits to be entered should not have been previously shown at the Lake County Fair. Nudes are not acceptable. No weapons. Your name must be securely fastened to the bottom of each piece you exhibit to avoid loss or confusion. No more than one item may be exhibited in any single Antique class number. -6-

Work must be completed by the exhibitor in the last 3 years. Copies, numbered pictures or kits are not to be used. Nudes are not acceptable. Please note that sizes are stated for each class and are to be followed. Items are to be made from scratch. NO box mixes. Bring items on a sturdy piece of cardboard and wrap with plastic. After judging, a display will be made on plates furnished by the Lake County Fair. Do not bring any product in its baking container. Exhibitor must enter in the correct category. With the exception of legacy quilts, where the tops were made at least 25 years ago but quilted by the exhibitor in the last 3 years. Entries should be clean, not show sign of wear, and not shown before at the Lake County Fair THE HERITAGE QUILTERS OF CROWN POINT,INDIANA SPONSORS THE HERITAGE AWARDS The HERITAGE QUILTERS of Crown Point sponsor 2 ribbon awards each year of a specified quilt pattern or design. This year Heritage has chosen the BASKET DESIGN. One award is given for a full size or larger quilt and another award for a twin size or smaller quilt or wallhanging. The chosen pattern must appear in50% of the quilt. In addition to the ribbon award, the winners each receive a one-year membership to HERITAGE QUILTERS and $25 for a large quilt and $20 for a small quilt.
