1 Investment Plan for Europe State of Play June 2018 COUNTRY FACTSHEET: GERMANY THE JUNCKER PLAN IN GERMANY Operations approved in Germany under the Juncker Plan s European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) now represent a total financing volume of 5.5 billion. This is expected to trigger 23.2 billion in investments. 2 INFRASTRUCTURE AND INNOVATION PROJECTS The 58 approved projects* amount to 4.6 billion in European Investment Bank (EIB) financing under the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI). This is expected to trigger 17.5 billion in investments. * Infrastructure and innovation projects include operations supporting investment in more than one country - they may therefore be counted in other country factsheets. Energy - Social infrastructure - Transport - Digital - Agriculture PROJECTS Environment and resource efficiency - RDI - Smaller companies Evotec medical research (signed September 2017) Evotec is a drug discovery company which partners with leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, academics and patient advocacy groups to develop innovative products and treatments. The EIB is providing 75 million under the Investment Plan to invest in research and development of treatment for serious illnesses. Financing under EFSI: 75 million MagForce: developing new treatments for brain cancer (signed August 2017) The EIB is lending 35 million to German medical device company MagForce to support the development of a new approach to treating the most aggressive type of brain cancer, glioblastoma. This new approach makes it possible to combat the tumour from within, while sparing surrounding healthy tissue. Patients are already being treated successfully in Germany, and this new agreement will enable MagForce to offer the treatment EU-wide. Financing under EFSI: 35 million Total investment expected: 70 million
3 Heidelberg digital printing in Germany (signed March 2016) A 100 million loan from EIB is to support the research and development (R&D) activities of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, focusing on digitisation, software integration and expansion of the digital printing portfolio. The printing machinery company is pushing the boundaries of the digitally automated industry. With this new financing, Heidelberg aims to help its customers expand their business models with new digital printing solutions. Financing under EFSI: 100 million Total investment expected: 306 million Combined Heat and Power Plant Kiel (signed October 2016) Construction and operation of a modern and environmentally responsible energy supply plant (including heat storage and an electrode boiler) in Kiel, capital of the German Federal State of Schleswig Holstein. Financing under EFSI: 105 million Total investment expected: 249 million Please note this list is not exhaustive and only includes a select number of projects. 4 SME FINANCING Under EFSI the European Investment Fund approved 24 agreements with financial intermediaries (banks, funds, etc). The financing totals 884 million and is expected to trigger 5.8 billion in investments. 29,200 smaller companies or start-ups will benefit from this support. Intermediaries include: Buergschaftsbanken, KfW Bankengruppe, Holtzbrinck, Ventures Fund VI, Odewald KMU II Fonds and Finatem IV The information on this page is not part of formal EIB reporting on EFSI; it should therefore be taken as provisional and unaudited.
