Our company is a universal insurance company offering a wide range of products in the sector of life insurance and in other insurance sectors. Na a spoloãnosè vznikla pod názvom PoisÈovÀa OTâINA, a.s., v roku Jej pôvodná orientácia na majetkové poistenie poºnohospodárskych subjektov sa po krátkej dobe zmenila a vznikla univerzálna poisèovàa. V roku 1994 vstúpil do majetkov ch pomerov poisèovne zahraniãn akcionár Bundesländer Versicherung. Our insurance company was established in 1990 as PoisÈovÀa OTâINA, a.s. The initial orientation at property insurance for agricultural companies has shortly been changed in favour of universal insurance services. In 1994, the insurance company Bundesländer Versicherung became one of our shareholders. V roku 1999 vznikol zlúãením troch poisèovacích spoloãností: Bundesländer Versicherung, Austria Collegialität a Raiffeisen Versicherung, koncern UNIQA Group Austria. V súãasnosti je koncern zastúpen dcérskymi spoloãnosèami na Slovensku, v âeskej republike, v Nemecku, vajãiarsku, Taliansku, panielsku, Chorvátsku, Poºsku a reprezentaãnou kanceláriou v Slovinsku. In 1999, the UNIQA group has been founded by merging three insurance companies: Bundesländer Versicherung, Austria Collegialität and Raiffeisen Versicherung. Nowadays, the UNIQA group has got daughter companies in Slovakia, in the Czech Republic, in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Poland and in Slovenia (representation office). The insurance company PoisÈovÀa OTâINA has as a daughter company of Bundesländer Versicherung become a member of the UNIQA group. The group wanted to manifest its operation on the European market through the change of company names of all its subsidiaries and so on February 12th, 2001 the brand UNIQA has been successfully launched on the Slovak market. 4 Príhovor Report Príhovor generálneho riaditeºa Ing. Peter BrudÀák generálny riaditeº predseda predstavenstva Rok 2001 bol v znamn m medzníkom v histórii firmy UNIQA. Vo februári roku 2001 bol obchodn názov OTâINA zmenen na UNIQA v súlade s rozhodnutím koncernu o zjednotení názvov jej dcérskych spoloãností na európskom trhu. Zmena mena so sebou prinesie aj zmeny v oblasti zákazníckeho servisu, vnútornej a vonkaj ej kultúry firmy. Samozrejme, Ïe tento proces, ktor sa zaãal v roku 2001 bude pokraãovaè aj v rokoch nasledujúcich. MôÏeme kon tatovaè, Ïe pod nov m názvom sa nám podarilo úspe ne vy tartovaè. Dosiahli sme nárast objemu poistného vo v ke 15,2%, keì celkov objem predpisu dosiahol 977,9 mil. Sk. V oblasti poistenia majetku dosiahlo predpísané poistné úroveà 727,4 mil. Sk, ão predstavuje nárast 6,76% oproti roku V majetkovom poistení bez poistenia motorov ch vozidiel do lo k nárastu o 1,53%, v poistení motorov ch vozidiel bol zaznamenan rast o 11,33% oproti roku V oblasti poistenia motorov ch vozidiel sme boli úspe ní pri získaní licencie na poistenie Zodpovednosti za kody spôsobené prevádzkou motorového vozidla, priãom v súlade s koncernovou stratégiou sme chápali toto poistenie ako sluïbu klientom poisten m na KASKO. The year 2001 was an important turning point in the history of UNIQA. According to the resolution of our group, the company name Otãina has been changed to UNIQA in February The change of our company name will bring about further changes in customer service and in the internal and external company culture. This process that has started in 2001 will of course continue in the years to come. We can proudly say that with our new name we have had a good start. Our premiums have risen by 15,2 percent and the total volume of written premium has reached 977,9 million Slovak crowns. In the sector of property insurance, the written premium has amounted to 727,4 million Slovak crowns what corresponds to a rise by 6,76 percent (compared to 2000). In property insurance without motor insurance, we have recorded an increase by 1,53 percent. In comparison to 2000, the volume of motor insurance has been increased by 11,33 percent. Our company has been granted a licence for providing motor third party liability insurance. According to the group strategy, we have understood this insurance as a service to clients that have taken out an automobile policy. 5 Príhovor Report 63,3 mil. Sk, sme spokojní, musíme v ak kon tatovaè, Ïe bol dosiahnut hlavne zmenou metodiky pri tvorbe rezerv Ïivotného poistenia. Za dosiahnutie veºmi dobr ch v sledkov v r. 2001, ako i na tartovanie práce pod nov m názvom patrí poìakovanie na im pracovníkom, na im vern m klientom a partnerom ako i podpore akcionára. Veríme, Ïe rok 2001 bol rokom úspe ného vykroãenia UNIQA do nového milénia. Ing. On this occasion, we would like to thank all our colleagues and loyal clients for good results achieved in 2001 and for their successful start under the new name as well as to our shareholder for his support and assistance. 9 Správa dozornej rady Report of the Supervisory Board Dozorná rada bola v priebehu roku 2001 na svojich zasadnutiach ako aj na základe pravideln ch písomn ch a ústnych správ predstavenstva dostatoãne informovaná o v voji spoloãnosti a plnila si v etky úlohy, ktoré jej ukladá zákon a stanovy. Audit úãtovnej závierky za rok 2001 vykonala audítorská spoloãnosè KPMG Slovensko, spol. s r. o., Bratislava. V správe audítora bol vyjadren nepodmienen názor k úãtovnej závierke. Dozorná rada vyjadruje svoj súhlas so správou predstavenstva a odporúãa valnému zhromaïdeniu schváliè riadnu úãtovnú závierku k vrátane návrhu na rozdelenie zisku. Dozorná rada vyslovuje vìaku a uznanie ãlenom predstavenstva a v etk m pracovníkom spoloãnosti za vykonanú prácu v roku Bratislava, apríl 2002 In the course of the year 2001, the Supervisory Board has been in its meetings and through regular written and oral reports of the Board of Directors adequately informed about the company s activities and has fulfilled all tasks required by law and the articles of association. The financial statements 2001 have been audited by the auditing company KPMG Slovensko, spol. s r. o., Bratislava. In the auditor s report, the auditor expressed an unqualified audit opinion on the financial statements. The Supervisory Board agrees with the report of the Board of Directors and recommends to the General Meeting to approve the annual accounts per December 31st, 2001 including the proposal for profit distribution. 14 Správa o stave spoloãnosti Správa o stave spoloãnosti Politicko-ekonomické ukazovatele Rok 2001 bol z hºadiska makroekonomickej stabilizácie rozhraním dvoch kvalitatívne odli n ch období (podºa Strednodobej koncepcie hospodárskeho a sociálneho rozvoja SR): obdobia stabilizácie a rozvojového obdobia Hospodársky rast vyjadren rastom hrubého domáceho produktu HDP vykazoval mierne vzostupn trend a miera inflácie sa úspe ne udrïiavala v stanoven ch hraniciach. Nepriazniv m faktorom bola v ak miera nezamestnanosti, ktorá dosahovala historické rekordy. V roku 2001 sa prejavila krátkodobosè úãinku stabilizaãn ch opatrení, redukujúcich domáci dopyt formou vy ích cien, ktoré sa dosiahli prostredníctvom zvy ovania nepriamych daní a regulovan ch cien. Ukazuje sa, Ïe bez pokraãujúcej re trukturalizácie podnikovej sféry ako aj opatrení na v davkovej strane tátneho rozpoãtu, dochádza k obnoveniu nerovnováïnych tendencií. Od 1.februára sa zv ila cena elektrickej energie pre domácnosè v priemere o 15%, cena zemného plynu o 20%, pre podnikateºov maloodberateºov o 15% a veºkoodberateºov 25%. Zv ilo sa cestovné v Ïelezniãnej a autobusovej doprave. V autobusovej doprave v priemere o 20%, v Ïelezniãnej o 15%. Slovenská po ta zv ila ceny v priemere o 9,9%. Medzi priority tátneho rozpoãtu v roku 2001 patrilo zníïenie daàového zaèaïenia, zru enie dovoznej priráïky, v plata dlhopisov FNM, pokraãovanie re trukturalizácie bánk a podnikateºskej sféry, príprava a rokovania o vstupe do NATO. Nemenej dôle- Ïité bolo aj spustenie reformy verejnej správy a dynamické pokraãovanie rokovaní o vstupe do Európskej únie. Presne v zmysle vyt ãen ch cieºov sa postupovalo pri realizácii zámerov vlády formou opatrení. Slovensko prestalo uplat- ÀovaÈ dovoznú priráïku, ktorú zaviedlo v polovici roka 1999 od 1. januára. Fond národného majetku splatil dlhopisy vo vlastníctve slovensk ch fyzick ch osôb. Vláda na mimoriadnom rokovaní schválila zníïenie sadzby dane pre právnické osoby na 26%. V roku 2006 by sadzba mala dosiahnuè 18%. Bolo schválené Political and economic parameters With respect to macroeconomic stabilization the year 2001 presents a dividing line between two qualitatively different periods (according to the medium-term concept of economic and social development of the Slovak Republic): period of stabilization lasting from 1999 to 2000 and period of development lasting from 2001 to The economic growth expressed as a rise of gross domestic product has demonstrated a slight rise. Rate of inflation has reached values within the defined limits. The unemployment rate that has reached historical records is still a very negative factor. In 2001, we have registered short-time effects of stabilization measures what has resulted in reducing home demand via higher prices that have been casued by increasing indirect taxes and regulated prices. It is evident that without continuing restructuralization of the corporate sector and without measures on the expense side of the state budget there will be unbalanced tendencies. With effect from February 1st, electricity prices for households have been increased by 15 percent, natural gas prices by 20% and for entrepreneurs by 15% percent (retail consumers) or 25% (wholesale consumers). At the same time, transport fares have been increased: fares in bus transport by 20% and in railway transport by 15%. The Slovak Mail has risen its prices by 9,9 percent. Among priorities of the state budget 2001 were tax reduction, abolitiion of import charges, payment of public bonds, further restructuring of banks and of the corporate sector as well as preparation for talks on joining NATO. Start of the public sector reform as well as dynamic negotiations on joining the European Union were no less important. In correspondence with these aims, measures of the government have been put into practice. Thus, Slovakia has abolished import charges that have been valid since January 1st, The National Properyt Fund has paid up public bonds owned by natural persons. V ROâNÁ SPRÁVA ANNUAL REPORT

VíÈazom privatizaãného tendra na predaj majoritného podielu V eobecnej úverovej banky sa stala talianska IntesaBci. Do vlastníctva IntesaBci pre lo 94,5% akcií. Majoritn podiel 82% akcií Istrobanky kúpila rakúska BAWAG. Maìarská OTP Bank sa stala vlastníkom 69,56% akcií Investiãnej a rozvojovej banky. Vláda schválila harmonogram predaja akcií Po tovej banky. Rok 2001 priniesol aj viaceré privatizácie v oblasti priemyslu. I lo o schválenie privatizácie subjektov: Transpetrol, Slovenská plavba a prístavy, Slovensk plynárensk priemysel, Slovenská poisèovàa, Istrochem, Západoslovenská energetika, Stredoslovenská energetika a V chodoslovenská energetika. V sociálnej sfére sa uskutoãnilo viacero pozitívnych krokov. Od 1. októbra sa zv ili starobné dôchodky o 7%. Dolná hranica sa stanovila na Sk. Ich maximálna v ka sa zv ila zo Sk na Sk mesaãne. Hranice Ïivotného minima sa zv ili pre plnoletú fyzickú osobu na Sk. Slovenská vláda vyvinula úsilie pri rokovaniach o vstupe do Európskej únie. Celkov poãet uzatvoren ch kapitol je 21. Pozitívnym znakom je aj poskytnutie programu stratégie pomoci CAS zo strany Svetovej banky Slovensku. Celková suma pomoci dosiahne 415 mil. USD a je urãená do oblastí re trukturalizácie bánk, reformy dôchodkového systému, riadenia verejn ch financií, súdneho systému a zdravotníctva. Na zasadnutí Svetovej obchodnej organizácie WTO v Îeneve bola obchodná politika Slovenska za pokroky v procese transformácie a liberalizácie trhu hodnotená kladne. Slovensk poistn trh sa vyznaãoval dynamick m rastom. Celkom 24 poisèovní sa zdruïuje v Slovenskej asociácii poisèovní. Ich celkové predpísané poistné bolo v roku On August 20th, the Slovak government has decided to reduce taxes for legal entities by 26%. In 2006, this tax rate shall amount to 18%. The government has also abolished inheritance tax for close relatives. The privatization of state banks V eobecná úverová banka (General Credit Bank), Slovenská sporiteºàa (Slovak Savings Bank) and Investiãná a rozvojová banka (Investment and development bank) was preceded by restructuring and stabilization. The French bank Banque Federale des Banques Populaires has acquired a 10 percent share on the ªudová banka. The Italian bank IntesaBci has as a winner of the privatization tender acquired the majority share of the Slovak bank V eobecná úverová banka. IntesaBci has acquired 94,5 percent of shares. The majority share on the bank Istrobanka (82 percent of shares) has been sold to the Austrian bank BAWAG. The Hungarian bank OTP Bank has become the owner of 69,56 percent of shares of the bank Investiãná a rozvojová banka. The Slovak government has also approved the plan to sell the shares of the Post bank. In 2001, many companies in the industry sectors have been privatized, e.g. Transpetrol, Slovenská plavba a prístavy (Slovak Ports), Slovensk plynárensk priemysel (Slovak Gas), Slovenská poisèovàa (Slovak Savings Bank), Istrochem, Západoslovenská energetika (West Slovak Electricity Works), Stredoslovenská energetika (Central Slovak Electricity Works) and V chodoslovenská energetika (Eastern Electricity Works). In the social sector, many positive steps have been concluded. With effect from October 1st, pensions have risen by 7 percent. The minimum pension limit amounts to Slovak crowns, the maximum pension limit has risen from to Slovak crowns per month. The subsistence minimum for a natural person amounts to Slovak crowns. The Slovak government has put intensive efforts to negotiations on joining the European Union. In total, the Slovak Republic has closed 21 negotiation chapters. V tendri, ktor bol vypísan slovenskou vládou, vyhral Allianz a tak získal 66,79%. V priebehu mesiaca október udelil Úrad pre finanãn trh licenciu na poskytovanie povinného zmluvného poistenia zodpovednosti za kodu spôsobenú prevádzkou motorového vozidla ôsmim poisèovniam: Allianz, Slovenskej poisèovni, UNIQA pois- Èovni, Kooperatíve, Komunálnej poisèovni, âeskej poisèovni Slovensko, Ergo, Generali. Úrad pre finanãn trh rozhodol 27.novembra o povinnosti Dopravnej poisèovne previesè svoj poistn kmeà na in subjekt. V rámci hodnotenia svetov ch ratingov ch agentúr do lo k ìal iemu pozitívnemu posunu hodnotenia Slovenska. Koncom októbra zmenila agentúra Standard & Poor s Slovensku ratingov v hºad z pozitívneho na investiãn. V polovici novembra ìal ia medzinárodná ratingová agentúra Moody s Investor Service pridelila Slovensku rating v rámci investiãného pásma. Vybrané ekonomické ukazovatele Rast hrubého domáceho produktu sa v porovnaní s predchádzajúcim rokom opäè zr chlil a dosiahol 2,9%. V ka HDP v roku 2001 dosiahla 964,6 mld. Sk. During the meeting of the World Trade Organization in Geneve, the trade politics of Slovakia has been commented in a positive way, especially with respect to the process of transformation and market liberalization. The Slovak insurance market has recorded a dynamic growth. In total, there are 24 insurance companies associated in the Slovak Association of Insurance Companies. In 2001, the total prescribed premiums amounted to 32 billion Slovak crowns which corresponds to a rise of 17 percent compared to the last year s figures. In 2001, the Slovak Insurance Company have been privatized. The public tender that has been launched by the Slovak government has been successful for the insurance company Allianz that has obtained 66,79 percent of shares. In October, the Financial Market Authority has issued licences for providing motor third party liability insurance to eight insurance companies: Allianz, Slovenská poisèovàa (Slovak Insurance Company), UNIQA, Kooperatíva, Komunálna poisèovàa, âeská poisèovàa Slovensko, Ergo, Generali. On November 27th, the Financial Market Authority decided that the insurance company Dopravná poisèovàa has to transfer its regular customers to another insurance company. World-wide rating agencies have enhanced Slovakia s rating. At the end of October, the rating agency Standard & Poor s has improved the Slovakia s rating from positive to investment rating. Mid-November, another international rating agency Moody s Investor Service has placed Slovakia into the investment range. Selected economic parameters Compared to the last year, the growth of the gross domestic product has accelerated and amounted to 2,9 percent. Inflácia dosiahla v I. polroku %, na konci roka 6,8%. Pozitívnym znakom je fakt, Ïe jadrová inflácia s v nimkou cien potravín a pohonn ch hmôt si dlhodobo zachováva relatívne stabilnú dynamiku. V roku 2001 zaznamenalo Slovensko aj urãité pozitívne náznaky v voja na trhu práce. V rokoch 1999, 2000 bol prvorad m dôvodom rastu miery nezamestnanosti faktor zniïovania poãtu pracovníkov v podnikoch, v prvom polroku 2001 bol prvorad dôvod rastu nezamestnanosti demografick faktor t. j. príchod novej pracovnej sily na trh práce. Miera nezamestnanosti bola v I. polroku 19,5%. Od 1. októbra schválila vláda zv enie minimálnej mzdy zo Sk na Sk. Priemerná mesaãná mzda v roku 2001 dosiahla v ku Sk. Prílev zahraniãn ch investícií predstavoval v roku 2001 ku koncu augusta 620 mil. USD. V tejto oblasti Slovensko znaãne zaostáva za krajinami V4. Najväã í podiel mali investície v podobe privatizácií Slovenskej sporiteºne, V eobecnej úverovej banky. Vláda na podporu prílevu zahraniãného kapitálu prijala zmeny v legislatíve ako napr. zákon o podpore v stavby priemyseln ch parkov a zákon o investiãn ch stimuloch. V roku 2001 do lo k rastu obchodnej nerovnováhy, ovplyvnenej oïivením spotrebného a investiãného dopytu a naväzujúceho rastu dovozu. Deficit v októbri dosiahol v ku 74,6 mld. Sk. Dynamika v vozu klesla z 19% vo februári na 1,1% v októbri. Na slovenskom v voze sa negatívne podpisuje najmä spomalenie rastu v EÚ, ktoré je najv znamnej ím teritóriom v vozu. Hodnotu deficitu negatívne ovplyvnil obchodn schodok a bilancia v nosov, pozitívne pôsobila najmä bilancia sluïieb. The growth of the home demand was supported by the expanded building of gross fixed capital and by the recovery of the growth of the households final consumption. In the first half year, the home demand has caused a strong growth of the imports of products and services (growth by 29,7 percent) although the growth of exports has fallen behind (growth by 18,6 percent). In comparison to 2000, the final balance of export and import has been decreased. The formation of the gross domestic product has been in individual sectors as follows: industry production 12,1%, construction industry 9,7%, strong decrease of the sector of production and distribution of electricity, gas and water 47,8%, rise of transport of 23,0%, telecommunication sector 20,6%. In 2001, the growth of private demand has been reflect in the real yearly growth of retail revenues. In September, the growth was equal to 5 percent. In the first half year, the inflation amounted to 8 percent and at the end of the year, to 6,8 percent. A positive sign is that the core inflation except for prices of fuel and food have maintained a relatively stabile dynamics. In 2001, the Slovak labour market has experienced some signs of positive development. In 1999 and 2000, the primary cause for growing unemployment was the factor of reduction of employees number in factories, whereas in the first half year of 2001, the main cause of growing unemployment was a demographic factor, i.e. new workforce on the labour market. In the first half year, the unemployment rate amounted to 19,5 percent. With effect from October 1st, the Slovak government has increased the minimum wage from Slovak crowns to Slovak crowns. The average monthly wage in 2001 was Slovak crowns. As per End of August 2001, the inflow of foreign investment was 620 million US dollars. In this respect, Slovakia falls behind Visegrad countries. V súlade so strategick m rozhodnutím vedenia irokého medzinárodného holdingu sa uskutoãnila zmena obchodného mena PoisÈovne Otãina, a.s., na UNIQA poisèovàu, a.s. Znaãka UNIQA bola uvedená na Slovensku dàa Premenovaniu predchádzali rozsiahle prípravy t kajúce sa budovania Corporate identity medzi zamestnancami a uvedenie znaãky na trh sprevádzala rozsiahla mediálna kampaà. V rámci uvedenia znaãky boli na trh uvedené aj tri nasledovné produkty: poistenie motorov ch vozidiel auto & voºnosè, poistenie majetku a zodpovednosti fyzick ch osôb domov & Èastie, v rámci Ïivotného poistenia produkt Kapitál Systém Junior deti & budúcnosè. O úspe nosti uvedenia znaãky na trh svedãí poznateºnosè po dvoch mesiacoch po tarte mediálnej kampane, ktorá sa rovnala 27%. ëal ou v znamnou zmenou, ktorá ovplyvnila poistn trh, bola demonopolizácia zákonného poistenia zodpovednosti za kodu spôsobenú prevádzkou motorového vozidla od 1. októbra UNIQA poisèovàa ako jedna z ôsmich poisèovní získala licenciu na poskytovanie zmluvného poistenia zodpovednosti za kodu spôsobenú prevádzkou motorového vozidla. Do konca roku 2001 bolo poisten ch motorov ch vozidiel (platnosè poistn ch zmlúv zaãala ). Poistno-technické ukazovatele V sledkom obchodnej politiky orientovanej na klienta, jeho individuálne potreby, je dosiahnut objem predpísaného poistného 977,9 mil. Sk, ão je dynamick nárast voãi roku 2000 o 15,16% (dynamika rastu predpísaného poistného predstavovala v rokoch 2000/1999: 3,44%). V oblasti poistenia majetku dosiahlo predpísané poistné úroveà 727,4 mil. In order to support the inflow of foreign investment, the Slovak government has adopted some legislative changes, e.g. law on supporting the erection of industrial parks and law on investment incentives. In 2001, the imbalance of trade has been increased, this trend was supported by the recovery of consumption and investment demand and connected growth of imports. In October, the deficit was equal to 74,6 billion Slovak crowns. The export dynamics fell from 19% in February to 1,1% in October. The Slovak export parameters are negatively influences by economic slowdown in the European Union as the EU countries are the most important target countries. The deficit value has been negatively influenced by the trade deficit and by the balance of income. The balance in the sector of services was a positive factor. The balance of payment deficit has been in 2001 overlapped by the surpluss of balance of direct investments. The state budget revenues in 2001 amounted to 47,883 billion Slovak crowns, budget expensed present 63,068 billion Slovak crowns. UNIQA in 2001 In the year 2001, the company name of our insurance company has been changed. In correspondence with the strategic resolution of the management of our international holding company, the company name PoisÈovne Otãina, a.s. has been changed to UNIQA poisèovàa, a.s. The brand UNIQA has been launched in Slovakia on February 12th, The change of the company name has been preceded by extensive preparations connected with forming corporate identity among employees and the launch campaign was followed by an intensive media campaign. In the frame of the new brand s launch, the following three products have been introduced: motor insurance auto & voºnosè, property insurance and liability insurance domov & Èastie and in the sector of life insurance the product Kapitál Systém Junior deti & budúcnosè. Another important change that has influenced the insurance market was the demonopolization of the third party liability motor insurance that has come into effect on October 1st, Our insurance company UNIQA poisèovàa was one of eight companies to be granted the licence for providing the third party liability motor insurance. Until the end of the year 2001, insurance contracts for cars have been signed (valid from January 1st, 2002). Our sales strategy oriented at customers and their individual needs has resulted in the volume of written premium of 977,9 million Slovak crowns what in comparison to 2000 presents a rise by 15,16% (dynamics of the rise of prescribed premiums: 2000/1999: 3,44%). In the sector of property insurance, the written premium amounted to 727,4 million Slovak crowns what compared to 2000 corresponds to a rise by 6,76 percent. Hodnota firmy je vïdy daná súãtom hmotného a nehmotného majetku. Hmotn majetok firmy je dan jeho úãtovnou hodnotou a vyãísliè ju, je niekedy problematické. Viedla k zv eniu kvality vzèahov medzi zamestnancami vo vertikálnej i horizontálnej rovine, k ãomu nemalou mierou prispelo mnoïstvo formálnych i neformálnych aktivít zameran ch na zv enie kvality organizaãného Ïivota na ej spoloãnosti. Popri sústavnom rozvoji schopností prispôsobovaè sa zmenám vonkaj ieho prostredia firmy a trhu, sme veºk dôraz kládli aj na regeneráciu pracovnej sily a to organizovaním rôznych kultúrnych a portov ch podujatí, ale aj fyzick ch aktivít odli n ch od beïnej pracovnej ãinnosti na ich zamestnancov. Aj tak mito aktivitami sme zabezpeãili sústavnú schopnosè zamestnancov prispôso- Economic result In 2001, the company s net profit after taxation was 63,3 milion Slovak crowns. This result was influenced by extraordinary revenues from changing the system of creating reserves for life insurance. Thanks to these revenues, our company was able to cope with the increase of non-recurring expenses which were connected with changing our company s name and developing new business in the sector of life insurance. Personnel Development...the initial and final aim of any effort in working with people in an organization has always been, is and will be the employee as a sovereign origninator of value for himself or herself and for others. Goodwill of a company is a sum of its tangible and intangible assets. Tangible assets present the book value of the company and sometimes they are difficult to quantify. It is even more complicated to quantify intangible assets of a company as they are not registered in the accounting books although they present a considerable value. This is evidently the value of human resources! By permanent education, self-education and development of professional and general skills, such as ability of conflict-free communication, willingness to cooperate and positive mood, we constantly increase this value. This effort leads to ability and preparation of human resources to offer a good performance and thus to raise the total company value. The road we are following since 2000 our Via Magna has lead to a change of our company s name as well as to the ability and willingness of our employees to identify with the new company culture connected with this new name. This development has also lead to increasing the quality of relations between employees on the vertical and horizontal level which was supported by many formal and informal activities oriented at increasing quality of the organizational life of our company. We have concentrated not only on developing the ability of our employees to adapt to changes in the company s external environment and to market changes but also on relaxation by organizing various culture and sports events that differ from usual working activity of our employees. Thus, many of us had the opportunity to build a wooden bridge over the Revúca creek or to cook goulash outdoors. The biggest activity of this type were without any doubt the UNIQA PLAYS. In this traditional two-days event, nearly 400 employees and sales representatives have enjoyed sports in various forms. Also thanks to these activities we have contributed to the ability of our employees to adapt results of their work to demanding requirements for final effect and the company s prosperity.
