I encourage you to review the report card with your child and discuss his/her progress. I firmly believe that your involvement enhances your child s learning experience. 2 Ms. Leon s 5th Grade Students and their Veterans Day Essays Our 5 th grade students stand proudly in front of their wonderfully written Veterans Day essays. The essays were submitted to The City of Hoboken Veterans Day Essay Contest. Our 5th graders enjoyed sharing their stories about a special veteran in their family. All essays were well written and filled with beautiful sentiments and words of gratitude for our veterans. I m sure the essays brought smiles to the faces of all our local veterans. 3 V O L U M E # 2 I S S U E th Grade Family Totem Poles Ms. Leon s 5 th grade class created family totem poles after researching and choosing Native American symbols to represent members of their family. The students then typed wonderfully written essays explaining the meaning of each symbol. The students are very excited to present their totem pole and essay to their family on Thanksgiving Day! 4 Raising Awareness at Calabro The Little School With The Big Heart Last year, the Calabro community collected close to 100 pajama sets for those in need. Let s strive for much more this year. We can help make a difference in a child s life this holiday season.

8 Calabro s Thanksgiving Assembly Each year, Calabro celebrates all they are thankful for by hosting a Thanksgiving assembly the day before Thanksgiving break. This year, grades kindergarten through sixth chose to either sing a song, recite a poem, or perform a skit. Each class worked on their performance in class, practicing and making decorations. Ms. Monblatt helped students learn their performances in music too. In addition to each class performing, the chorus also performed. Chorus members have been hard at work learning both patriotic and seasonal songs for the assembly. Ms. Monblatt, the choral director, held morning chorus practices so students could get ready. Special thanks to Ms. Forte and her art students, for decorating and putting up the decorations for the assembly. A special thank you to Ms. Lucy for the extra hands and to our custodial team in making this school sparkle.
