2 Forever in our hearts It is with great sadness that we report that two of APCU s valued volunteers have passed away. Sam B. Dowdy February 11, 1920 March 7, 2017 Mr. Dowdy faithfully served the credit union for over 43 years. He was elected to APCU s Board of Directors in Mr. Dowdy took on the responsibilities as Secretary of the Board in He continued volunteering as Board member and Board Secretary until 2005 when he stepped down and became Director Emeritus. From the very beginning to the very end, Mr. Dowdy approached all of his volunteer responsibilities at APCU with enthusiasm and passion. He lived the credit union movement philosophy of people-helping-people. Robert (Bob) Harris May 30, 1925 February 9, 2017 Mr. Harris, CPA, worked for APCU for more than 47 years. He first began his relationship with the credit union in 1968, as an External Independent Auditor. Later, Mr. Harris joined APCU s Supervisory Committee as an Internal Auditor. He continued providing his skills and knowledge to APCU as a volunteer of the Supervisory Committee until his passing. The Board of Directors, volunteers, managers, and staff of APCU sincerely appreciate Mr. Dowdy and Mr. Harris for the outstanding service they performed as volunteers of the credit union. 3 How to get by in an emergency: Personal Loan Or Credit Card? Unexpected expenses, by nature, can come out of nowhere. Your check engine light comes on, and your car demands you put another thousand dollars into keeping it on the road. Your air conditioner gives up during the longest heatwave you can remember. No matter what causes these financial challenges, they all have one thing in common: They re expensive. If unexpected expenses are not in your budget, let APCU help. Two of the most popular choices at APCU for emergency funding are a personal loan and a credit card. There are pros and cons to both: 1. Limits Credit cards are generally designed to cover day-to-day purchases. They can have credit limits in the thousands, which is enough to handle most small appliance purchases and some car troubles. This is accomplished through contributions in support of the Credit Union Political Action Committee (CUPAC) on the state level and Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) on the federal level.
