10 Flood hazard and risk maps Layout of the following maps was agreed by the FP EG: map of hazard and flooding scenarios; map on risk and population; map on risk and economic activity; map on risk and IPPC installations; two maps on WFD protected areas; Flood hazard areas are submitted via DanubeGIS (in cooperation with the IMGIS EG); Data for risk maps are collected by the template developed by the Secretariat.

13 Flood risk management plan FP EG agreed upon the basin-wide objectives of FRMP - they are linked to the respective measures: Avoidance of new risks Reduction of existing risks Strengthening resilience Raising awareness Solidarity principle

14 FRMP - measures ICPDR agreed that only the strategic level measures shall be presented in DFRMP (it would not make sense to duplicate reporting on all national measures on the level A); Selection of strategic level measures = prioritization; Key priority at the basin-wide level given to: Measures with downstream effect (natural water retention, warning systems, reduction of risk from contaminated sites in floodplain areas, exchange of information); Measures applicable in more countries of the basin (awareness rising, warning systems or ice protection measures);

16 Annex 2: List of transboundary projects supporting DFRMP The projects or project proposals/ideas presented in the Annex 2 were developed by the ICPDR and/or EUSDR PA5 and they shall i.a.: Reflect the objectives and priorities set in the Danube Flood Risk Management Plan; Have a transboundary character; Help to implement the needs listed i.a. in the Annex 2.

18 Flood risk management plan Addresses the level A relevant issues: Natural water retention & flood retention, Solidarity principle, Links to WFD, Public consultation, Climate change impacts, Cost benefit analysis.

19 Water retention Flood retention (artificial or natural constructions providing a retention volume to decrease a flood s peak); Natural water retention (enhancing water storage potential of landscape, soil, and aquifers): green infrastructure measures providing win-win solutions; EU environmental legislation asks for the evaluation of better environmental options to structural changes to rivers, if such changes could lead to status deterioration; Top priority in DFRMP due to a substantial downstream effect; National activities towards water retention presented in DFRMP.

21 Impacts of climate change EU WFD CIS Guidance document 24: future changes in the intensity and frequency of extreme precipitation events, combined with changing land use, are expected to cause an increase in flood risk across much of Europe; FD highlights the need for coordinated action on climate change throughout the RBD; MM 2010: impacts of climate change will increase and develop into a significant threat in DRB if not complemented by climate adaptation measures; ICPDR developed a Climate Change Adaptation Strategy for the Danube River Basin.
