Message from the Mayor In my time as Mayor, I have witnessed several recessions, and it certainly says a lot about our community.

How could that happen, and will it happen again now as the world oil market has taken a tumble? What is different about our community is twofold.

Our diversity between forestry, oil and gas, plus all the support services, will keep our hotels and restaurants busy, property prices high, and still plenty of work for our residents.

2 Message from the Mayor In my time as Mayor, I have witnessed several recessions, and it certainly says a lot about our community. In 28, while businesses around Alberta faced tough times, many in our community took advantage of the opportunity, and actually grew. How could that happen, and will it happen again now as the world oil market has taken a tumble? What is different about our community is twofold. First, it is diverse; we are not a one industry county. Our diversity between forestry, oil and gas, plus all the support services, will keep our hotels and restaurants busy, property prices high, and still plenty of work for our residents. The other difference we have unique to any part of Alberta, as we have heard from industry leaders, is the Duvernay play just west of us. While oil companies slash spending, budgets stay firm for this field that takes advantage of the still high prices for liquid rich gases. While our council knows how much of the struggle this recession has hit this area, we are here to support our residents and businesses as much as possible, starting with our decision for a zero percent tax increase for 216. Chaos will always have an element of opportunity, and the Woodlands residents and business community will be the strongest in Alberta as we move into 217! We are focused on working with businesses to promote our county, attract outside investors, and keep local business local. We are also continuing to develop multiple recreational sites around our community. Not only does this enhance and enrich the lifestyle of our residents, but it also attracts visitors to our region, and gives residents enjoyment right in their backyard while supporting our local economy and maintaining the quality of life we are so proud of in Woodlands County.
