1 Stacked Moving Averages - Version 4.0 Description: The Stacked Moving Averages indicator allows you to quickly see if an equity is in an uptrend, downtrend, or no trend based on the condition of the moving averages. If the moving averages are stacked such that MA1>MA2>MA3>MA4>MA5, then that is defined as an uptrend. If the moving averages are stacked such that MA5>MA4>MA3>MA2>MA1, then that is defined as a downtrend. Any other condition of the moving averages is defined as no trend. This indicator allows you have an easy visual on a chart to see the condition of the moving averages as well as a way to see the state of the moving averages in RadarScreen. You can also use the Scanner to find stocks that are in an uptrend or a downtrend. Inputs: length1 = This is the number of bars that will be used to calculate moving average 1 and it should be the smallest value. The default is 10. length2 = This is the number of bars that will be used to calculate moving average 2 and it should be the larger than length1. The default is 50. Length3 = This is the number of bars that will be used to calculate moving average 3 and it should be the larger than length2. The default is 100. Length4 = This is the number of bars that will be used to calculate moving average 4 and it should be the larger than length3. The default is 200. Length5 = This is the number of bars that will be used to calculate moving average 5 and it should be the larger than length4. The default is 250. movavgtype = This input determines the type of moving average, either simple moving averages (SMA) or exponential moving averages (EMA). The default is 1 for SMAs. You can select 2 for EMAs. upcolor = This is the color that will be used to display the moving averages when they are stacked in a long position of ma1>ma2>ma3>ma4>ma5. The default is green. dncolor = This is the color that will be used to display the moving averages when they are stacked in a short position of ma5>ma4>ma3>ma2>ma1. The default is red. neutralcolor = This is the color that will be used to display the moving averages when they are not stacked in a long or short position. The default is darkgray. Important Notes: This indicator works in the Chart Analysis, RadarScreen, and the Scanner This indicator can be used with any time frame. All moving averages are either SMA or EMA based on the input movavgtype. You can use just 2 moving averages by setting length3, length4 and length5=0. To simplify a chart by having 1 thing to look at instead of multiple moving averages to look at and take up screen real estate. Can use Alerts to know when an uptrend or downtrend ha s started. Display: Chart Display: The StackedMovingAvg value will either be 1=uptrend, 0=no trend, or -1=downtrend to show the state of the moving averages. 2

3 RadarScreen Display: The MA Order column shows the order of the moving averages from highest value to lowest value. So, means MA1>MA2>MA3>MA4>MA5 and this is an uptrend so it colored with the color defined by the input upcolor The StackCnt column shows for how many bars the equity s MAs have been long or short The Stack Condition column shows if there is an uptrend (1), no trend (0) or a downtrend (-1) and the values will be colored based on the inputs upcolor, dncolor, and neutralcolor. 3

4 Scanner Format: The scanner is set up to find stocks that have an average volume of at least 1M shares, have a price of at least $20 and are in an uptrend using the default values for the indicator. 4
