Over the past 21 years AIR s Reinsurance Directory has become the definitive guide and document for information regarding the who s who of the Asian reinsurance world. Now also in electronic copy, it is a publication RBAS is proud to be associated with. The cycles of reinsurance as discussed by the AIR Editor -in-chief, Mr Sivam Subramaniam are fickle and frequent. Each cycle is different, each one is driven by different commercial buzzwords and macroeconomic factors, but they all result in the development of dynamic new products, novel methods of delivery and extraordinary innovation within the industry. The strongest driving force in a soft market cycle is the survival of the fittest and that alone drives the special breed of players the better participants to higher levels of excellence. The RBAS membership of 12 is such an industry breed of participants and as quality businesses, it gives us great pride to work with the AIR who in itself represents a quality bench mark in its own field. For almost 20 years, the RBAS has represented the professional body for reinsurance brokers licensed in Singapore. RBAS actively promotes the education of related parties and individuals. It supports the professional efforts of its members and the overlying development of Singapore as the leading regional reinsurance centre in Asia. It promotes close dialogue with and between regulators, competitors, suppliers and markets, always mindful of its regional and international role and the responsibilities of its membership as leaders of industry practice. RBAS requires its membership to conform to its rules and regulations regarding accounting, compliance, contract certainty, ethics, professional indemnity coverage and code of conduct. Objectives: The Association s main objectives are to: Establish a forum and standard for Licensed Singapore Reinsurance Brokers; Safeguard their professional interests and to enhance and promote their effectiveness; Promote compliance and protect our industry s ethical and legal standards; Promote the education and training of persons practising or intending to practise reinsurance broking in Singapore; Contribute to thinking and action on proposed and existing legislation, as well as present a cohesive channel of communication and representation for members to regulators and legislators; and Promote a forum for an exchange of views and information between members and other local and international associations and professional bodies. 11
