1 King Charles I School Supporting successful futures Headteacher: Stephen Brownlow Dear Parents/Carers, Year 10 Trip to Berlin (Germany) in October 2017 November 2016 Following successful overseas trips to Belgium in recent years, we are hoping to organise a five day trip to Berlin from Friday 20 th to Tuesday 24 th October 2017 for our current Year 10 students who will then be in Year 11. This opportunity is available to all Year 10 students but, in the first instance, priority will be given to students who take GCSE history. One of the four sections of the new GCSE course that the students study is called Living under Nazi Rule and this trip is designed to enhance and improve their understanding of this topic. This engaging visit gives students the opportunity to visit some key sites from this period of history. The schedule for October 2017 will include the following: Friday 20 th October Leave School (Hillgrove Site) at 4pm. Travel to Berlin overnight via the Eurostar. Saturday 21 st October Arrive in Berlin in the morning Go to the Hotel and afternoon at leisure Trip to the Reichstag in the evening Sunday 22 nd October Guided tour of Wannsee House Berlin Underground Tour Guided tour of Topography of Terror Monday 23 rd October Guided tour of the Olympic Stadium Guided tour of Sachsenhausen Leave Berlin to travel back to Kidderminster via Eurostar Tuesday 24 th October Arrive back at school (Hillgrove Site) at 12pm. We shall be using Rondo Travel Ltd, one of Britain s leading educational travel companies for years to make the necessary arrangements for us. The cost of the visit is 330 and includes travel by coach and Eurotunnel; full board accommodation for two nights, entrance fees to all sites and visit packs. Travel insurance is provided by Rondo and the school also has its own insurance policy for school visits. In order to cover the cost of the visit we are asking for a voluntary contribution to cover the full cost per student. Without this contribution from each participating student we will be unable to organise the trip as the school receives no funding for such activities. The cost will be reviewed for any students whose parents/carers can prove they are in receipt of any of the following benefits: Income Support Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance Income-related Employment and Support Allowance Private Limited Company Registered in England. 2 Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 Guarantee element of State Pension Credit Child Tax Credit, provided you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income that does not exceed 16,190 Working Tax Credit 'run-on'-the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit. From 1st May 2009, pupils are eligible for Free School Meals for a four week period immediately after the parent/carer becomes unemployed, or reduces their hours to less than 16 hours a week, but is still in receipt of Working Tax Credit. In this case would you please contact Anne Salsano (Business Manager) as soon as possible. Key Information 1 Deposit and Forms If you would like your son/daughter to come on the Berlin Visit October 2017, please return the attached consent forms, together with the initial deposit of 50* by Monday 12 th December. This should be paid using the ParentPay online method following the Make a Payment link on the school website or by cheque in an envelope labelled Berlin Visit October 2017 and your son/daughter s name, form class and amount enclosed. No cash please. The remaining 280 is payable in two further instalments of 140 on Thursday 23 rd 2017 and Thursday 13 th July 2017 respectively in the same way as the deposit. 2 Visit Briefing Meeting for Pupils and Parents A meeting will be arranged nearer the date of the visit (to be arranged). Here you will all have a chance to learn all details of the visit including the learning objectives, travel, accommodation, what to bring and to meet the staff accompanying the party. 3 A valid UK Passport and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) Your son/daughter will need THEIR OWN CURRENT UK PASSPORT and EUROPEAN HEALTH INSURANCE CARD for the visit, so if you do not have these, it is best to organise these well in advance. The EHIC which provides access to hospitals in EU countries is available online.
