1 October 2012 Dear Parent, Christmas Trips 2012 On activities afternoon, at the end of the Christmas term, Year 10 & 11 pupils have the opportunity to take part in one of the following trips provided they have received at least 180 achievement points by Wednesday 24 th October. These trips are optional and pupils not wishing to attend will remain in school and undertake alternative organised activities. All trips will take place on the Friday 21 st December 2012 with coaches departing from the school at approximately 11:25 a.m. and returning before 3:20 p.m. in time for the pupils to catch their buses home. In order to secure these trips we need to know numbers as soon as possible. I would be very grateful if you could return reply slip, medical form and payment to Pupil Services by no later than Friday 26 th October. Trip 1 Long-range Outdoor Lazer Quest The Lazer Quest trip will take place at an outdoor park at Nomansland, Romsey. This optional trip will cost 33 per pupil. This includes coach hire and entry fee. Pupils will be provided with a coverall, but must wear sensible footwear (walking boots or strong trainers, not Wellington boots). They are advised to wear old clothes and it will be necessary to bring a complete change of clothing and a large plastic bag in which to place dirty clothes and footwear. Some simple hot food and refreshments can be purchased at the venue; alternatively pupils can bring a packed lunch with them. Trip 2 Ice Skating and Christmas Market The ice-skating and Christmas Market is an opportunity to experience an exhilarating skate in the open air in the Inner Close of Winchester Cathedral which is transformed by a Christmas Market and open-air real ice rink. This optional trip will cost 14 per pupil. This includes coach hire, entry fee and skate hire. The programme will include one hour on the ice rink and an opportunity to browse the stalls of the Christmas Market and perhaps purchase some Christmas gifts. Pupils will be able to purchase lunch at this venue; alternatively pupils can bring a packed lunch with them. Trip 3 Bowling The Bowling trip will take place at Bowlplex, Basingstoke. This optional trip will cost per pupil. This includes coach hire and entry fee for two games. Opportunities to purchase lunch are available at this venue; alternatively pupils can bring a packed lunch with them. Trip 4 Karting We would also like to offer a corporate style Karting event at Wessex Raceway Indoor Karting Centre, Salisbury. This optional trip will cost 38 per pupil. This includes coach hire and entry fee. The programme will include driver briefing, practice sessions, 75 minute team race (teams of four pupils interchanging) and trophy presentations. It will be necessary to bring a packed lunch as there will not be time to purchase food at the venue. We can offer a maximum of 40 places on a first come, first served basis.

2 Code of Conduct May I draw your attention to the school s Code of Conduct (attached) which all participants must adhere to for the safety and wellbeing of all those involved. Failure to adhere to the safety rules laid down will result in pupils being withdrawn from taking part in the activity and possibly any future activities offered by the school. Cancellation and Place Offers In the event of insufficient take-up for a specific trip, the trip will be cancelled. If there are places available on alternative trips, then pupils may be able to transfer. Some activities, though, have a limited number of places and therefore will be offered on a first come, first served basis. Cheques need to be made payable to Test Valley School. Payment via the e-payment method is available. Flights in helicopters/non-scheduled aircraft: The main change will only affect you if your establishment takes part in any airborne activities, such as helicopter flights or flying lessons, so not a great concern to the majority of you! If you do take part in these activities, please notify Corporate Risk Solutions prior to the trip.

4 Basic Code of Conduct for School Trips and Residential Visits 1) General: Irrespective of the destination or duration of the visit, pupils will not only be representing the Test Valley School but also Hampshire and Great Britain. It will therefore be expected that pupils will behave in an exemplary fashion at all times, as the whole party will be judged by the actions of individuals. 2) General Expectations: i) Instructions by Teachers must be obeyed without delay at all times. ii) Personal stereos may be used with headphones only. The volume must be kept low so as not to disturb others. iii) Pupils must take extreme care when travelling, crossing the road and anywhere near water. iv) Pupils must never go anywhere on their own and when not directly supervised should always let a member of staff know where they will be. v) Punctuality is essential check your watch and arrive on time for all activities. Essential Rules: vi) Pupils are not allowed to purchase or consume alcoholic drinks, smoke cigarettes, use other illegal substances or possess flick-knives, fireworks (bangers) and other flammable materials i.e. lighters and matches. 3) Sanctions: Any pupil who is found or considered to have broken any of these essential rules or who has misbehaved in any other way will be subject to one or more of the following sanctions: i) Loss of privilege for a period of time. ii) Isolation/ close supervision for a period of time. iii) Isolation from other pupils for the duration of the trip. iv) Temporary or permanent ban from future school visits. 3) Responsibility: Pupils found breaking any of these rules may have to return home and/or may not be allowed to take part in any future educational visits organised by the school. In the case of serious misbehaviour, in the judgement of the staff, parents will be contacted to make arrangements to collect their child and all associated costs will be borne by the parents.
