3 Ratioale for Developig the System ad EAC Through EAPHLNP IDSR Strategy aims to create a coordiated approach to the collectio, aalysis, iterpretatio, use ad dissemiatio of surveillace data, Data sharig is critical i surveillace ad plaig for joit respose to outbreaks, To facilitate timely data collectio ad reportig, All the EAC coutries are movig to electroic reportig system Regioal Surveillace TWG oted the eed for developig a electroic iformatio maagemet system that collates surveillace ad laboratory data EAPHLNP i collaboratio with EAIDSNet coordiated the d e s i g, developmet ad deploymet of the system Data for six proe diseases were agreed for sharig: MDR-TB, Malaria, Cholera, Bloody Diarrhea, Meigitis, ad Measles

4 The system captures All health facilities, all districts from five coutries i which health facilities belogs with GIS coordiates ad shape files Weekly Data (cases, tested, positive, death) are collected at Health Facility level for 5 to 6 days (weekly basis) ad are set to district level where they are aggregated ad approved After aggregated ad approved at district level, they are set to Natioal level for fial approval Whe they are approved at atioal level they are the shared to Regioal level i automated way usig Applicatio Programmig Iterfaces (API) from e-eaidsnet Regioal System 4

11 Challeges 1. Chage of Coutry Surveillace System: Some coutries were i trasitio period by the time they were visited ad coected to the Regioal System 2. Regular chage of coectio credetials: Some coutries chage their system access credetials (userame & password) without iformig the Regioal Admiistrator of e-eaidsnet. 3. Regular chage of coutry ICT focal persoels.

The system detected icreased cases of malaria reported i Burudi ad Tazaia betwee week of 2017, ECSA-HC ad EAC coordiated a cross border joit respose to the outbreak by ivolvig cross border districts of the two coutries This puts the regio at a better level to respod to public health evets due to ifectious diseases. 12
