Assessment Name Date 1 Jennifer's homework grades for the past three weeks are 85, 92, 76, 78, and 87. Which inequality can be used to find g, the grade Jennifer needs to make on her next homework assignment in order to maintain a B (80-89) average? g A 80 $ # g B 80 # # C 80 $ + g # g D 80 # # 89 5

2 A list of the all-time top single TV shows by percent of TV owners who watched the show is shown. No. Show/Episode Year Rating 1 MASH Special (Last episode) Dallas (Who Shot JR) Roots, part Super Bowl XVI Super Bowl XVII XVII Winter Olympics Figure Skating Super Bowl XX Gone With the Wind, Part Gone With the Wind, Part Super Bowl XII Super Bowl XIII Bob Hope Christmas Show When this information is graphed by year and rating, the following scatterplot is produced. Based on this scatterplot, which is a valid conclusion about these most-watched shows on TV? F More people watched TV in the 1970s than in the 1990s. G H J The percent of TV owners watching the shows on this list has remained fairly constant over the 24-year period. More people watched the most popular shows and episodes in the 1990's than in the 1970s. The number of people watching top shows is increasing as time goes forward.

3 The table shows the relationship between the number of sides (n) of a polygon and the sum of the measures of the interior angles (s) of the polygon. Number of Sides Sum of Angle Measures (degrees) Which function best represents this relationship? A s = 90n B s = 180n - 2 C s = (n - 2)180 D s = 90n + 180(n - 4) 4 Arne wants to have a final average of at least 93 in his biology class. His final average in the class will be based entirely on his performance on the major exams for the class. On the 3 major exams he has taken so far, Arne has scored 97, 88, and 91. He has only the final exam left to take, and it counts as 2 exams. If f represents his grade on the final exam, which inequality could Arne use to determine the grade he needs on the final exam to achieve his goal? F 93 $ f 5 G 93 # f H 93 $ f 4 J 93 # f 5 f

5 The area of a rectangle is 90 square meters. The width of the rectangle varies inversely as the length of the rectangle. Which of the following is true about the information shown on the graph where x is the length of the rectangle and y is the width of the rectangle? A y = 90 x y B x = 90 C y = 90 x D x = 90 - y

2 6 Which graph represents the function f(x) = - x - 4? 3 F H G J

7 Which graph shows 2 lines that both pass through the point (4, - 2), 1 with a 2 3 slope of and the other with a slope of -? 3 2 A C B D 8 Which situation can be represented by a linear function? F G H J The area of a square is a function of the length of the side of the square. The length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle is a function of the length of 1 leg of the triangle when the length of the other leg is given. The rate at which a car travels a fixed distance is a function of time. The perimeter of an equilateral triangle is a function of the length of 1 side of the triangle.

9 Mr. Hidalgo buys a used car for $8000. He plans to finance the car with a 1-year loan. The annual interest rate on the loan is 10%. Mr. Hidalgo knows that the amount of interest he will have to pay is a function of the down payment he makes on the car. He graphs this function, letting x represent the amount of his down payment and y represent the amount of interest he will have to pay. Mr. Hidalgo's graph is shown. What does the y-intercept of this graph represent? A B C D the total amount Mr. Hidalgo will pay for the car, including the interest the total amount of interest Mr. Hidalgo will have to pay if he buys the car outright the amount of interest Mr. Hidalgo will have to pay each year the total amount of interest Mr. Hidalgo will have to pay if he puts no money down on the car

10 Malcolm's older brother, Neville, earns a $5000 merit scholarship for college. Instead of receiving the entire amount at once, he will receive a check for $200 each month until he has been awarded the entire $5000. During the period he is receiving the scholarship, Neville can use the equation b = m to calculate the balance remaining after m months. If Neville were to receive the scholarship in $500 rather than $200 amounts, the equation for the balance due would change accordingly. How would the graph of this new equation compare to the graph of the equation based on a $200 monthly award? F G H J The graph of the new equation would have a steeper slope. The slope of the graph of the new equation would be less steep. The y-intercept of the graph of the new equation would be greater. The y-intercept of the graph of the new equation would be smaller.

STAAR CONNECTION Diagnostic Series EOC Algebra I TEKS Alignment Chart For each grade or course, TEA has identified some of the TEKS eligible to be assessed on STAAR as readiness standards. These readiness standards will be emphasized on the STAAR assessments. The remaining TEKS eligible to be assessed on STAAR are considered supporting standards. Although supporting standards will be assessed, they will not be emphasized on STAAR. KAMICO has shown whether each question assessed in this book is aligned to a readiness standard or a supporting standard. Readiness standards are essential for success in the current grade or course, are important for preparedness for the next grade or course, support college and career readiness, necessitate in-depth instruction, and address broad and deep ideas. Supporting standards, although introduced in the current grade or course, may be emphasized in a subsequent year, may be emphasized in a previous year, play a role in preparing students for the next grade or course but not a central role, and address more narrowly defined ideas. Assessment Question Number Answer Reporting Category TEKS Readiness or Supporting Standard 1 B 1 A.1C Supporting 2 G 2 A.2D Readiness 3 C 3 A.5C Readiness 4 J 4 A.7A Supporting 5 C 5 A.11B Supporting 6 G 3 A.5C Readiness 7 D 3 A.6D Supporting 8 J 3 A.5A Supporting 9 D 3 A.6B Readiness 10 F 3 A.6F Readiness
