3 FP7 RTD Framework Programme EC ( ) and EURATOM ( ) The EC budget for seven years ( ) is 50.5 billion and the Euratom budget for five years ( ) is 2.7 billion. Overall, this represents a 41% increase from FP6 at 2004 prices and 63% at current prices. Euratom budget for 2 years ( ) FP7+2 is 2.5 billion

16 What s new A single programme bringing together three separate programmes/initiatives* Coupling research to innovation from research to retail, all forms of innovation Focus on societal challenges facing EU society, e.g. health, clean energy and transport Simplified access, for all companies, universities, institutes in all EU countries and beyond. *The 7th Research Framework Programme (FP7), innovation aspects of Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP), EU contribution to the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT)

18 Euratom basis Article 4.1 of the Euratom Treaty The EC is in charge of promoting and facilitating nuclear research activities in the MSs and to complement them through of a Community Research & Training programme Article 6d of the Euratom Treaty To encourage implementation of (national) research programmes the EC can: bring financial i support to research contracts, provide to MSs, people or enterprises, facilities, equipments or expert assistance, stimulate joint financing (from MSs, people, enterprises)

Funding for ITER outside MFF in a separate supplementary programme: 2573 million for Specific objectives for Research & Innovation indirect actions support safe operation of nuclear systems; contribute to efficient solutions for the management of ultimate waste; Support development and maintain nuclear competences; foster radiation protection; ensure availability of research infrastructures Perfect link with FP7
