4 Session details GDPR and Cyber Security: What Have We Learnt, What Do We Need To Do? In today s world, cyber criminals will target any business regardless of size, with charities being no exception. The rapid pace of technological change and globalisation have profoundly transformed the scale and way in which personal data is collected, accessed, used and transferred. In light of recent cyber-attack and data breach headlines, more and more individuals are worrying about their own personal data and charities must ensure they are taking every measure to protect this. Not only are charities facing increasing challenges to safeguard their systems and data but pressure is on to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that is now operational. Getting it wrong can be extremely costly, with penalties of up to 20 million and the losses incurred from reputational damage. Financial Reporting Update This session will look at financial reporting developments over the last year, especially focussing on guidance issued by the charity regulators and Sorp setting body. It will also consider new responsibilities of auditors and examiners, any changes to the annual report requirements, and the accounting mechanics of becoming a charitable incorporated organisation. Charity Commission guidance and update featuring Q&A panel discussion Nigel Davies This session will provide you with updates on Charity Commission publications and guidance alongside any developments in regulation. Nigel and his fellow speakers will then review the key findings from the day, before giving you the opportunity to raise any questions with the panel. You may also submit questions prior to the conference, to allow Nigel time to prepare a more detailed answer. Gift Aid, Tax and VAT Update The session will cover changes, topical issues and recent cases on tax issues affecting charities to give you confidence to deal with tax effectively at your charity and/or be aware of areas where further work is required. The session will cover Gift Aid and benefits, Retail Gift Aid, recent challenges to rates relief, VAT after Brexit, Making Tax Digital, VAT recovery including the challenge to the Children s Society case, the updated HMRC guidance on VAT on grants and contracts and cost sharing groups. Employers, Workers and Volunteers: Latest Changes in Rules This session will look at the key employment law issues that have arisen for employers over the last year. The speaker will review the most recent developments in these areas and how they are likely to impact on charities going forward, utilising real life examples. To register and book online please visit
