3 Liverpool Society of Chartered Accountants Course Programme 2012/ Social Media and Employment Law: what you need to know 20 September 12:00 14:30 Liverpool Chamber of Commerce 20 + VAT Social media is revolutionising the way we work, communicate and live. The workplace is no longer the physical office, desk and computer, but rather it can exist wherever someone is doing business or interacting with colleagues. This dramatic change in how we work throws up lots of new and fascinating issues. The aim of this workshop is to tackle those issues head on and provide solutions to the new challenges posed by social media. The event will encourage people to share ideas and experiences as well as to understand the legal position about social media in the workplace. Speaker: Stephen Robinson is a Partner in the Employment Group in Manchester. He is an employment law specialist who advises businesses and individuals in a wide range of sectors on all aspects of this area. He is known for giving common sense, user friendly and above all strategic commercial advice. He is an expert in his field and with 11 years employment law experience he is recommended by Legal 500 and clients. Stephen is also a regular media commentator on the latest legal issues to affect HR. Financial Reporting 4 October Radisson Blu, Old Hall Street, Liverpool This course concentrates on UK GAAP issues of relevance to members in public practice. The precise contents will depend on developments in the period up to the course, but the broad coverage will be as follows. A review of all recent relevant changes to UK GAAP with an emphasis on those changes where the practical effects are impending or recent. A refresher on reporting issues which are particularly topical or where problems have been seen to occur in practice. Possible and recent changes to Company Law affecting financial reporting. A brief overview of recent developments in IFRS ICAEW Liverpool CPD Events A5.indd 3 19/09/ :34
4 2012 (continued) R&D Tax Credits 18 October 12:00 14:30 Liverpool Chamber of Commerce 20 + VAT The Research & Development rules are changing and you may have also heard about the proposed new Patent Box regime. This seminar will bring you up to date with the new proposals. Many businesses are still failing to make the most of tax relief available to them and many companies still believe that the scope to claim relief is restricted to those in white lab coats, but the remit stretches far beyond this. This seminar will answer questions such as How will these changes affect your business? Should you be planning now to maximise your position? What is the Patent Box? Will my business qualify? What are the pitfalls? Speaker: Colin Smyth is a corporate tax partner at Baker Tilly with 20 years experience. He advises entrepreneurs and their businesses, as well as private equity houses and quoted companies. He leads the national Corporate Transactions Group and is particularly experienced in M&A structuring. Colin also heads up the Technology Group in Manchester, and he has spent nine months at the then Department of Trade and Industry helping with the formulation of taxation policy for SMEs. Executor or Attorney should you agree to act? 16 November 12:00 14:30 Liverpool Chamber of Commerce 20 + VAT The course will review the areas an accountant should consider if they have been appointed as executor or an attorney. POSITIVE COMMUNICATION 28 February 10:00 13:00 Radisson Blu, Old Hall Street, Liverpool Have you ever wondered what it is that outstanding presenters and speakers, leaders and managers, teachers and trainers, negotiators and persuaders, sales and customer care staff, all have in common? How do they get their message across clearly? How do they get people to willingly do what they re asking? How do they engage and inspire those they re talking to? What s their secret? And how can I become that good? This workshop will: give you more confidence, especially in those trickier conversations and meetings; help you to obtain excellent results every time you speak, negotiate or present; enable you to be more persuasive and influential; show you how to truly motivate and engage others; give you the tools to get ahead of your competition; and help you find out if your current communication style is causing problems without you even knowing it.
