4 Avoca Central School Board of Education Minutes October 13, 2015 Type of Meeting: Regular Time: 7:30 p.m. Board Members: Administration & Others Present: Brian Patterson Present Stephen Saxton Karen Dgien Present Matthew Pfleegor Michael Slayton Present Stephanie Helgeland Don Lester Present Gay Fairbrother Megan Hubbard Present Rosalie Smith Employees Sheri Frail, Kim Crane, and Kristine Stowe Community Members Present: Call to Order The meeting was called to order by the President at 7:42 p.m Setting the Agenda Add item to Disposal of Obsolete District Property, Remove Appoint Special Education Teacher; Add Long Term Substitute; Add 9th Grade Advisor Public Forum None Extraclassroom Activity Fund Report Mrs. Stowe reported on the Extraclassroom Activity Fund Cafeteria Report Mrs. Fairbrother and Mrs. Frail did a cafeteria presentation Principal Reports Mrs. Helgeland reported on the following: Open house, book fair, Farm City Day, 3rd grade hike, DARE, and the Superintendent Conference Day. Mr. Pfleegor reported on the following: Spirit week, open house, bonfire cancelled, pep rally, spud jug and he dyed his hair Monday, Tech committee went to Hammondsport to see google platform. Smart schools 1 initiative, Superintendent Conference Days, grade level meeting, and 7 12 SDM team 1st meeting Superintendent Report CSE Recommendations Mr. Saxton reported on the following: School board recognition, building project update, weight room open to the public?, policy committee, crisis training, and Superintendent Conference Day Poverty Simulation. Motion by Mr. Lester, seconded by Mrs. Dgien to accept the CSE recommendations of the Committee on Special Education for the meetings listed below and approve the authorization of funds to implement the special education programs and services consistent with such recommendations. Meeting Dates: 9/30/15, 10/7/ Minutes Motion by Mrs. Hubbard, seconded by Mr. Lester to approve the minutes of the September 15, 2015 meeting Warrants Motion by Mrs. Dgien, seconded by Mr. Lester to approve the Warrants for the period ending September 30, Treasurer Report Motion by Mrs. Hubbard, seconded by Mrs. Dgien to accept the Treasurer s Report for the period ending August 31, BOE Meeting 10/13/15
5 Extraclassroom Activity Fund Treasurer Report Shared Decision Making Plan Motion by Mr. Lester, seconded by Mrs. Hubbard to accept the Extraclassroom Activity Fund Treasurer Report for the school year. Motion by Mrs. Hubbard, seconded by Mr. Lester to approve the Shared Decision Making Plan Guidance Plan Motion by Mrs. Dgien, seconded by Mr. Lester to approve the Guidance Plan Student Transportation Cooperative Agreement Motion by Mrs. Dgien, seconded by Mr. Lester to approve the Student Transportation Cooperative Agreement among participating school districts for the school year Audit and Corrective Action Plan Budget Calendar Disposal of Obsolete District Property Motion by Mrs. Hubbard, seconded by Mrs. Dgien, upon the recommendation of Superintendent Stephen Saxton, RESOLVED, that the Audited Financial Statements dated June 30, 2015 as presented by Buffamante Whipple Buttafaro, P.C. are hereby accepted: Audited Financial Statements, June 30, 2015 Extraclassroom Activity Funds Audited Financial Statements, June 30, 2015 Management Letter, October 13, 2015 Avoca Central School Corrective Action Plan Motion by Mrs. Dgien, seconded by Mrs. Hubbard to approve the Budget Calendar. Motion by Mrs. Hubbard, seconded by Mr. Lester to declare the following as obsolete and approve the disposal of the obsolete property to be sold through an online auction or discarded by the best means possible according to Policy #6900. Athletic Uniforms, Overhead Projectors, Book Case, 3 video cameras Apportionment of Assessments and Taxes Motion by Mrs. Dgien, seconded by Mr. Lester to approve the apportionment of assessments and taxes for the school year for Parcel # , property owner's James & Stacey Richtmeyer. New Owner Name New Parcel #.121 To James & Stacey Richtmeyer ,900 6,800 Anthony Allison ,000 William Warfe , Fund Balance Transfer Motion by Mrs. Hubbard, seconded by Mrs. Dgien, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education, upon recommendation of the Superintendent, shall authorize a transfer from the unappropriated fund balance of the fiscal year to the Capital Fund, in the amount of $400,000 and a transfer from A690 (Overpayments) to Fund Balance the amount of $306,206. 7 Long Term Substitute Teacher Max Houy Extra Curricular Appointments Motion by Mrs. Dgien, seconded by Mr. Lester to appoint Max Houy to the position of Long Term Special Education Substitute Teacher, at the Step 1 Daily Rate, effective October 14, Motion by Mrs. Dgien, seconded by Mr. Lester to appoint Kay Baker to the position of 9th Grade Class Advisor Public Comment Gretchen Hubbard informed the Board about the location of signs in parking lot and questions about the key to the gate at the soccer field. Tom Edwards asked if class advisor positions where volunteer, they are paid positions. He also had questions about the weight room.
