1 WILL COUNTY STAMP COLLECTOR Volume 19 No 7 The Philatelic Club of Will County American Philatelic Society Chapter # 1508 meets on the 2 nd and 4 th THURSDAYS of each month at 7 pm, (gather 6:30) at Messiah Lutheran Church, 40 S. Houbolt Rd (corner of Jefferson & Houbolt), Joliet, IL JULY-AUG 2016 PLANS FOR 2016 Remember if you have any items that can relate to the scheduled program, please bring it in to add to the info being presented. Mixture night at every meeting except Auction nights. Topics subject to change at last minute as needed. July 14 SHOW & Tell. Bring something from your collection you would like to tell about. You all should have at least ONE ITEM that you can Bring in, Expensive item, most unusual, neatest or ugliest. Any interesting cover, stamp or philatelic information you can share. We will also hold a brief business meeting to transact some business not completed at our last meeting, including election of officers. July 28- World Stamp Show report by Carl Burkett, Gil Koenigsacker and Rod Juell will let us know what they saw at the Stamp Show. If you attended, add your voice! Aug 11- Pre-cancels by Carl Burkett. Just WHAT are precancels? Why bother to collect them? Carl will fill us in. Aug 25-US REVENUES by Rod Juell. The US takes our revenues in the form of taxes--on everything we buy and on the money we make. Rod will let us know what Revenues have to do with Philately. SEPT 8 - Native Americans on Stamps by George Attaway. SEPT 22 - Topical Collecting by Sarah Howell. Do YOU collect Topicals, most of us do in some way. PAST MEETINGS: June 9: APS program History and Scope of Aerophilately. Traced the history of Flight. Great program on Air Mail service with lots of interesting info! Pigeons, Balloons as early as 1871, Helicopters and Airplanes (First tried in 1911, 1923, it took a while to succeed!) all were used for mail. I am sure members all learned something with this APS program. June 23 ANNUAL MEETING and elections. We (at least 16 people)met at Cemeno's but DID NOT really hold a meeting or have our elections, that was postponed to our JULY 14 meeting. Ate lots of salad and Pizza tho! Plenty of conversation also. Nominating Committee for Officers to be elected at the JULY 14 meeting were "assigned: Carl Burkett and Sarah Howell. Mark your calendars NOW. All member EXHIBITS are welcome AND neededfrom 4 pages to 16 pages. We do need to provide our show attendees with an opportunity to learn and enjoy exhibits in frames as well as dealer tables. SHOW OFF some of your collection! Need not be fancy but a nice selection of what you have. We need to fill only FIVE (5) frames, Naperville will do the other five. Dealers 8 AM, Attendees 10 am. Volunteers needed to help with BS Stamp Collecting badge. Nice Door prizes also needed. Bring something YOU would like to win! To be given out from 11 to 2 pm on the hour. Greeters, raffle sellers, and other helpers needed. See Rod or Darlene to volunteer ahead of time. THANKS. 15h ANNUAL SHOW! We will have the BS Stamp Collecting Merit Badge Clinic again.we Do have Boy Scouts signing up, from as far away as Palatine! Will try to get more local boys as well. Need help getting the word out. This is on the 2nd Sat. Show Set up will be on Friday Oct 7.

When anyone BIDS on a single page binder item, they should take it out of the binder and place it on top of the binder for others to be able to see it, having it out makes it easier when collecting items with bids on them. 4 APS program History and Scope of Aerophilately. 12 Members enjoyed the program. The Hindenburg disaster at Lakehurst, New Jersey on May 6, 1937 brought an end to the age of the rigid airship. The disaster killed 35 persons on the airship, and one member of the ground crew, but miraculously 62 of the 97 passengers and crew survived.. mail from ship
