Issue 12 President s Message Our September 13th meeting will be a big one We will be in our new location for the first time, at Faith Lutheran Church ( st Street, Moline). This is the same location that was used for the last Stamp Out Cancer auction. The general membership voted to move to this location at the August meeting due to difficulties with using the St. Mary s Church. I suggest that due to road construction that you drive to the church along 41st Street from the South. Turn onto 41st street from the Avenue of the Cities in Moline as 41st street is blocked at 12th Avenue in Moline. This promises to be a great meeting. See you September 13th! There were 3 guests that had some stamp material appraised before the meeting started. Don Hayes won the name tag drawing. Two members won raffle prizes. August Meeting Highlights 2 September Auction List 3 August Auction Results 4 Paul mentioned that the PQ is now being distributed every month, including the summer months, replacing the postcards. Paul gave an overview of how they Board came to its proposal to have our future meetings at Faith Lutheran Church in Moline. Members agreed to this proposal. Our September meeting will be at the new location! Paul explained that the officers election will be postponed until March, and to extend current officers positions until that time. Leen will provide the updated list of officer positions and also let Gerry Bade know so that it can be updated on the web site. Paul explained that the web site hosting and administration has been dealt with by George, Gerry and Lisa. George announced that Albert Janssen has passed away. After asking the group and finding no reasons for a Board meeting it was decided to cancel the Board Meeting this evening. The monthly auction raised $ 222, which means that $ was raised for the club. Seven of the 35 items went unsold and were returned to its owners. 5 Page 5 Volume LXXXI. Issue 12 New Location for QC Stamp Club Starting September 13, our monthly meetings will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, st St. in Moline. The meetings will still be every second Thursday of the month, starting at 7.30 pm. Parking is behind the building. When you enter, you walk in, go down the stairs, or take the elevator down. We will need to set up the room ourselves. There are over 20 tables (6 ft long) and 8 round tables that we can use. There is also a cart with dozens of folding chairs. For those that want to assist with the set up, the doors will open around pm. We plan to set up the room in some kind of horse shoe formation, so that hopefully that will make it easier to see everyone bidding during the auction. Three tables will be set up for auction lots. About 9 tables will be used to create the horse shoe set up. For the dealers we will set up extra tables as needed. After the meeting some help is needed to put away tables and chairs into the storage room. As you know we will pay $ 25 / meeting, which is $ 5 more than what we paid at St. Mary s. Hopefully you will agree that the new space is a bit nicer, with better light, with a nice coffee bar upstairs, where you can get your coffee for a small goodwill donation in the basket next to it. We will also be able to use the A/V equipment in the room. There are 3 TV monitors, a large projection screen and a computer. That means that we can do PowerPoint presentations, or look up stuff on the Internet to share with the group. Please think about what you might want to do with that option! Short stamp related presentations or workshops maybe? 6 CLUB AUCTION RULES: 1. Every member can offer lots for the club auction. 2. Every lot must be submitted to Linda accompanied with a fully filled out auction form. No lots will be accepted without a filled out form. 3. Each lot will begin at starting bid (on form) or $1. 4. A lot that does not get sold at starting bid or higher will be returned to owner immediately after the auction. Auction forms will be available on-line or ask Linda at club meeting. What we hope to achieve with the new rules: A. Better quality lots because low quality lots will often not be sold and will be returned to owner. B. Better lots can be offered, given that the risk of selling an expensive lot for just $ 1 will be avoided by having the starting bid as a safety net. C. Better income for the club. D. More efficient auctioneering, as we will not lower initial starting bid as listed. In other words, auctioneers will no longer count down until somebody starts bidding at $ 1 but begin immediately at starting bid. We are hopeful and confident that these new rules will benefit everybody. P.O.
