Motion carried 4-0. Review Bills / June 2015 Bills were reviewed. Public Input No member of the public present. Educator Reports/ Discussion Action a) Randy Neffinegger /4-H Summer Intern Randy updated the committee on the day camps he has been conducting in Osseo, Augusta, Eau Claire and Cleghorn. Randy felt the Cleghorn day camps were the most successful and well attended. At these camps he would have themes, such as Around the World, where things such as different foods and games were explored. On an average 24 children attended the day camps. Randy felt there was a need to have better advertising for the camps. The committee gave him suggestions such as the library, grocery stores and churches. b) Erin LaFaive / Horticulturist Erin was a national finalist and received an Achievement Award for Communications: Feature Story from the National Association County Agricultural Agents. The committee commended Erin for her achievement and suggested she share her success with the County Board. Erin updated the committee on all the garden activities she is involved with, such as the Jeffers Road gardens, youth gardens and the teaching garden located at the Ag Center. Chippewa Valley Community Television recently taped an episode of Keeping it Green with Erin at the teaching gardens. Erin has had several teaching opportunities with the teaching gardens. The local community stops frequently and speaks to Erin about the project. They also stop in the Extension Office and ask questions. c) Kate Beaton /AmeriCorps VISTA Kate introduced herself to the committee. Currently her major focus of work has been centered with the Farmers Market Match Program. Where participants of the program are given a one-to-one dollar match on food purchases, up to $10. The program appears to be very successful. Kate will continue to fundraise for the program. Kate s term with the Extension Office is through June of County Budget / Discussion Action Personnel costs were received this past week from both the County and State. There are increases in wages and benefits, but at this time staff feels these costs can be covered with budget adjustments. Staff has not had enough time to present the committee with a detailed budget, but will have that budget prepared for approval at the next scheduled meeting.
3 Review Applications for Eau Claire County Fair Committee / Discussion Action Motion by Supervisor Bates to approve the application received from Allison Olsen. Motion carried 4-0. State Budget Update / Discussion Staff has not received any discouraging information for our office for the next fiscal year. Member of the Extension Education Committee, County Administration and the media are invited to attend the visit. WACEC Update Supervisor Bates / Discussion WACEC is meeting with WCA to determine regional locations for web conferencing meetings. The Eau Claire Extension Office would be a good location for a meeting with the equipment on site. Supervisor Bates, informed the Committee that she is receiving the prestigious Chancellor s Award. Congratulations to Colleen. Update on Youth in Governance / Discussion Sara has scheduled an orientation meeting with Alex Braaten (youth representative), Supervisor Kranig and herself in August. Alex will serve on the Judiciary and Law Committee and will be introduced to the full County Board at their September meeting. Supervisor Manydeeds would also like to meeting Alex. Staff will continue to keep the committee updated on Alex s appointment. Tour of County Fair / Discussion It was decided that the committee would tour the Fair after the meeting was adjourned. Scheduling of Future Meetings / Agenda Items The next meeting is scheduled for August 12 at 5:00 PM at the Extension Office.
