1 Administrative Prcedure Frm #2022F8 Agreement fr Use f Mercer Island Schl District Student ipads Student Usage Standards fr District Prvided ipads The ipad yu will be issued is the prperty f the Mercer Island Schl District and is made available t yu as a tl fr learning. This Agreement sets ut the ipad usage standards fr using the device. Like textbks and ther schl prperty, an ipad is assigned t the student and MUST be returned t the District at the end f the schl year r upn withdrawal r transfer. This agreement signed by bth student and parent/guardian is required befre an ipad will be issued t a student. The use f an ipad is a privilege that can be revked. Inapprpriate use r neglect f an ipad can result in limits t r lss f use f the ipad. Cnsequences fr inapprpriate use will vary accrding t infractin, but may include any r all f the fllwing: Schl discipline cde cnsequences Lss f privileges r increased cntrls Temprary r permanent lss f ipad Vilatins are subject t cnditins f Plicy and Prcedures 3200 (Student Rights and Respnsibilities) and Plicy and Prcedures 3241 (Discipline, Suspensin, Expulsin and Vluntary Withdrawal frm Schl) All use standards fr the schl netwrk under Plicy and Prcedures 2022 (Electrnic Infrmatin Netwrk) applies t use f the ipad Students will bring the ipad t schl each day unless therwise instructed with a full battery charge. Students are nt permitted t change r therwise jailbreak the device t alter the cnfiguratin r functinality that has been established by the district. This means students cannt remve the Apple perating system nr install apps that alter the district s ability t manage the device. Students must nt leave the ipad unattended at any time while at schl. If a student needs t stre his/her ipad during the schl day, he/she must fllw all schl prcedures fr securing unattended ipads when necessary (athletic events, etc.). The cst f a lss/theft f an ipad due t negligence f the student will be charged t the parent/student and recvered as authrized under Plicy and Prcedures 3520 (Student Fees, Fines, Charges). All the ipad applicatins ( apps ) that students will need fr classes will be made available by the district. Students are nt allwed t uninstall r mdify any applicatin r the perating system in any way. In grade levels where allwed, installatin f apps by students is permitted with the expectatin that these devices are primarily fr educatinal purpses. The district reserves the right t remve r disable any student- installed apps, including but nt limited t thse which are cnsidered inapprpriate r that interfere with the learning prcess. All dwnlading f applicatins r ther n- line csts incurred by the student fr authrized r unauthrized persnal use f the ipad are the sle respnsibility f the parents/students.

Any music r ther cmmercial files installed n the ipad must be legally wned by the student user. General Handling and Required Care f the ipad Student and Parent/Guardian will be charged fr any damage resulting frm intentinal abuse r mishandling, r nn- - accidental lss r damage t an ipad due t negligence. A plice reprt is required fr any stlen ipad. The fllwing are nt cnsidered t be accidental damage and repair csts will be assessed under Plicy and Prcedures 3520 (Student Fees, Fines, Charges): Excessive scratches/wear t ipad exterir caused by failure t regularly use a prtective case as determined by MISD staff Intentinal marking, defacing, and/r abusing the ipad fr student amusement, anger, frustratin, etc. Damage caused by tampering with hardware cmpnents r perating systems (i.e. jailbreaking) t alter district cnfiguratin Any lss r theft f an ipad must be reprted t the technlgy supprt ffice immediately, s that recvery effrts can be initiated. Failure t immediately reprt a lst ipad can result in the student being assessed the full replacement cst f $400. D nt mark the ipad in any way with markers, stickers, scratches, engraving, etc. Each Apple ipad is labeled with a district identificatin barcde. D nt remve this barcde label. Students may persnalize the district prvided case fr easier identificatin. The ipad must remain in a case at all times. Any damage resulting frm failure t use a case will result in fees being assessed fr the full cst f repairs. If yu wish t purchase yur wn case, the case must prvide adequate prtectin fr the edges, crners and surface f the ipad. D nt insert freign bjects (paperclips, pens, etc.) int the prts (penings) f the Apple ipad. When eating/drinking near the ipad, keep the ipad prtected frm liquids and ther fds. Prtect yur ipad frm ther surces f misture such as rain when utdrs and bathrms r kitchens near tilets r sinks. Make sure hands are clean befre using the ipad the glass screen shuld be regularly wiped clean with a dry clean sft clth a micrfiber clth is recmmended, but any sft cttn fabric will wrk. D NOT use cmmercial liquid r spray cleaners (Windex, etc.) n the ipad screen. D NOT use paper twels t clean the screen. When the charging cable needs t be cnnected, be sure t line it up crrectly when inserting and remving. Students are respnsible fr damage t the charger prt r cnnectr pin resulting frm mishandling. Use nly Apple certified charger and cables. One charger and cable is prvided by the schl district. If yu have prblems with yur ipad, stp using the device and ask yur Tech Supprt Office fr help.

3 Administrative Prcedure Frm #2022F8 Internet Rules and Expectatins Mercer Island Schl District s Acceptable Use Agreement must be fllwed at all times. Any inapprpriate web, pht, music, r app activity can result in lss f the Apple ipad privilege. The use f unapprved prxy servers is strictly frbidden and is a vilatin f the district s netwrk plicy. If yu unintentinally view an inapprpriate website, reprt it t yur teacher immediately. All activity cnducted n the Mercer Island /Netwrk is mnitred.all use f the Netwrk shuld be t further the student s educatin and enrich the student s educatinal resurces. [Make this the secnd bullet in this sectin] Parent Infrmatin The ipad is meant fr student use nly. It is nt meant t be a family cmputer r t be used by siblings in any way. Parents are respnsible fr supervising student Internet use while at hme; the filtering services we implement n the district netwrk d nt transfer t hme use. Mre restrictive settings can be installed upn parent request t limit access t the Internet r ther nnacademic uses f the ipad parents shuld cntact Mercer Island Schl District regarding specific infrmatin n hw t access this service. Parents shuld mnitr the use f the ipad at hme t ensure that its primary functin is academic and that students are cmpleting assigned schl wrk rather than excessive gaming, chatting, etc. Mre specific resurces are available n the 1-1 ipad pages n the High Schl and Middle Schl web site. Use f Internet resurces including nline curriculum cntent purchased by the district will be an integral part f the learning activities in yur child s classes. If yu have reservatins r bjectins abut yur child having access t the Internet while at schl, please cntact yur schl administratin t discuss the matter. All families will have the ptin t participate in an ipad self- insurance prgram t prvide limited prtectin in the event f lss r damage t the ipad. This is a MISD self- insured prgram managed by the Mercer Island Schl District. Arrangements can be made thrugh the building Administratrs fr families that require financial assistance if the parent/student desires the insurance.

4 Administrative Prcedure Frm #2022F8 Insuring the ipad Parents/students have the ptin f participating in the District s self- - - insurance prgram, which prvides limited prtectin in the event f lss r damage t the ipad. Otherwise by denying insurance, parent/student assumes full respnsibility fr damage, theft r lss. The ptinal insurance prgram (self- insured, managed by the Mercer Island Schl District) has the fllwing features: Cvered lsses We will cver direct physical lss caused by accidental damage, unavidable theft r lss, fire, fld, natural disasters, manufacturer defects, r pwer surge due t lightning; ccurring during the schl year. There is $0 deductible fr the first ccurrence f accidental damage, fire, fld, natural disasters, manufacturing defects r pwer surges. First ccurrence is $0 deductible, secnd ccurrence is a $50 deductible, and third ccurrence can result in the full cst f the repair.there is a $100 deductible fr the first ccurrence f an unavidable theft r lss (see belw). Cverage includes Burglary/Rbbery/Theft that invlves a break- in, frce, r ther ttal lss (including when the device can n lnger be fund) that is therwise unavidable despite exercising due diligence ($100 deductible assessed). Leaving the ipad unattended, failing t secure it per schl recmmendatins, leaving it in an unlcked car, leaving it n the bus, etc. d NOT qualify as a legitimate claim fr unavidable theft r lss. These and similar situatins will result in the replacement cst (apprx. $400) being assessed. Accidental Damage includes damage resulting purely by accident despite fllwing all guidelines fr care and handling f the ipad. The fllwing are nt cnsidered t be accidental damage and are nt cvered hence students will be assessed the full cst f repair: excessive scratches/wear t ipad exterir caused by failure t regularly use a prtective case as determined by MISD staff (use f case is required per the ipad Agreement) intentinally marking, defacing, and/r abusing the ipad (amusement, anger, frustratin, etc.) damage caused by tampering with hardware cmpnents r perating system (i.e. jailbreaking) t alter district cnfiguratins Yur Duties in the event f lss r damage: Reprt the lss r damage t yur building technlgy ffice immediately. Ntify the lcal plice immediately if the lss is due t theft r fire. Multiple damage/theft claims especially if lack f due diligence is evident culd result in an escalatin f deductible fees, assessment f full repair/replacement cst, r restrictin f take- hme privileges. Laner ipads cannt be issued until the deductible has been paid r ther arrangements fr payment have been made with schl fficials.
