Once you learn two preliminary ideas, though, they become surprisingly easy to understand. These precursors to being a SNT expert are differentiating between means-tested and entitlement programs, and knowing how trusts are treated by means-tested programs under OBRA 93. Attendees will learn to tell if a SNT is needed or not, the right type, and special tips on use and administration. The differences between the ABA Model Rules and California s adoption of them will be highlighted as well. SPEAKER: Jennifer Scharre, Temmerman, Cilley & Kohlmann Networking Break 2:45 p.m. - 3 p.m. Appellate Issues in Trusts and Estates Matters 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. A Practical guide for trusts and estates practitioners handling appeals, including discussion of the following topics: Anticipating an appeal, and preserving the record; deadlines and procedures for filing the appeal; appealability in trusts and estates cases; the automatic stay, the implications of Probate Code section 1310(b), and its exceptions; effective appellate advocacy.
