Commerce has always been an important sector for Syrian Economy, which has benefitted the country due to its location along the major east west trade routes. Syria boasts of both traditional as well as heavy industries. Even during the period of crisis since the year 2011 onwards, the Syrian economy maintained certain pockets of industrial production. In 2017, some of the economic indicators have begun to stabilize, including the exchange rate and inflation, despite most of the economic activity remain depressed. Since 2017, the Government of Syria has launched major reconstruction efforts in an attempt to rebuild the economy and has extended invitation to its long term friendly nations including India, to invest and trade in the emerging opportunities and gain the early mover advantage. With this background EEPC India with the support of Ministry of External Affairs and Embassy of India in Syria, is pleased to announce a high level business delegation to Syria and Lebanon from 7 14 September The business meets in Syria will coincide with the 60th edition of Damascus International Fair scheduled from 6 15 September Since the political situation is now turning normal with the drastic improvement in the overall security situation, the Syrian Government/ institutions have pro-actively initiated the process of engagement with the foreign companies. After seven years of war, much of Syrian infrastructure has been destroyed and the industry is non-functioning. As per the World Bank, the total cost of rebuilding Syria is estimated to be US$ 200 billion. The Syrian government has adopted a Look East policy for the companies to be engaged in rebuilding its infrastructure. India-Syria relations have always been friendly and of mutual respect. With this background, the Indian companies stand good chance of doing business in Syria and reap many benefits in this process. President Bashar al-assad has also reiterated many times that Syria would entertain only those companies who undertake to engage with her during the present difficult times. So, this is the right time to get a substantial chunk of the business in Syria. The business delegates will have a close interaction with the top Syrian business community as well as the important Syrian Ministers and are also expected to sign MoUs with their counterparts. The rebuilding process in Syria offers many outstanding opportunities for the Indian companies in the following sectors: Electricity Generation & Transmission Equipment Pharmaceutical industry Raw material and manufacturing equipment Building and infrastructure (including water harvesting) Heavy Machinery Automobiles & Tractors Minerals and Mines (including Petroleum & Natural Gas) Renewable Energy

2 Registration and participation charges Rs 40,000/- per participant will be charged to partially cover the following expenses: Coordination charges Facility to hold meetings with local Chambers of Commerce & Industry Transfer from Beirut to Damascus by bus Other individual expenses like flight tickets, visa charges, hotel, local transport, food, expenses on individual meetings will have to be borne by the delegate. Hotel accommodation It is proposed that all participants may preferably be booked in the same hotel for convenience. EEPC India will recommend a customized package for the delegates shortly.
