2 Statistics Canada randomly rounds counts for Census and National Household Survey data to maintain confidentiality. Therefore, the total value may not match the sum of the individual values within the table. This random rounding process is conducted independently for all data tables which may lead to slight differences in values between tables/sources. Private household is defined as a person or group of persons (other than foreign residents) who occupy a private dwelling and do not have a usual place of residence elsewhere in Canada. It excludes persons who usual place of residence is a collective dwelling, for example, a hospital, a hotel, or a seniors residence. The After Tax Low-Income Measure (LIM-AT) is a fixed percentage (50%) of median adjusted household income, where adjusted indicates that household needs are taken into account. It is calculated using the Survey of Labour and Income Dynamics (SLID) by dividing household income by its adjusted size (the square root of the number of persons in the household), assigning this adjusted household income to each individual in the population, then determining the median of this equivalent household income over the population of individuals (i.e. the amount where half of all individuals will be above it and half will be below it). The LIM for a household of one person is 50% of this median equivalent household income, and the LIMs for other sizes of households are equal to this value multiplied by their equivalent household size.
