1 CATALOG OF THE 20TH CENTURY STAMPED ENVELOPES AND WRAPPERS OF THE UNITED STATES (Published 2004) CORRECTIONS (As of October 2007) NOTICE: The reader should clearly understand what is not contained in the information presented here: 1. Pricing updates (unless to correct an obvious typographical error). 2. New material discovered since the publication of this catalog. Both of these matters will be addressed in a future edition of the catalog. Certain listings have been deleted. These include: 1. No watermark listings in the circular die, wove paper envelopes. There is no evidence that any unwatermarked paper was ever used in the envelope manufacturing process during this era. Low wove paper quality often causes the watermark in these envelopes to be too faint to be clearly discerned. 2. Ink variations in the Circular Dies. These dies were used for over thirty years and ink shades varied greatly over that period of time. 3. Double impressions. These printing faults can be found on a great number of envelopes, depending on the level of quality control of the various envelope printers, and have been deleted in order to be consistent with 19 th Century listings. Some of the more spectacular varieties are listed in the Scott Specialized Catalog, and on pages of this catalog, with high valuations, and are certainly collectable as printing errors, along with mis-folds, mis-prints, albinos, etc. 4. Air Mail envelopes missing lozenges. Also deleted as printing faults. The individuals who are the sources of these corrections are: Jerry Summers, Kirk Wolford, Bill Geijsbeek, Bob Thompson and Porter Venn. The United Postal Stationery Society is very grateful for their efforts. The corrections are in page number order, then UPSS number or line of text, as applicable.
