FAIR PLAY: By some strange code, collectors of first flights are honor bound not to keep other fellow's covers, regardless of how they come by them. In recent months it has been brought to our attention that quite a few collectors have been missing certain lots of covers out of various sets they send addressed to themselves. Generally it is but one point, but this effectively breaks up the individual's matched set; and such covers are of little use to the person who gets them in error. We would like to make this appeal to all collectors: If you should happen to get covers that do not belong to you, won't you please send them to the rightful owners, irrespective of whose fault the wrong delivery might happen to be. There were hardly cover collectors in Shakespeare's time but his lines were apropos when he said "... robs me of that which not enriches him but makes me poor indeed.".. "' "' Member Paul Bugg reminds us that no less than six airlines are hoping to obtain a certificate of authorization to conduct non-top flights for passengers, mail and cargo from Baltimore, Md., to San Juan, P. R. and accordingly have filed petitions with the Civil Aeronautics Board. The airlines seeking this service are: Riddle Aviation Company, Inc., Eastern Airlines, Inc., Willis Air Service, Inc., Pan American Airways, Trans-Carribbean Air Cargo Lines, and the Caribbean Atlantic Airlines, Inc., of San Juan, Puerto Rico. THE AIRPOST JOURNAL SPECIAL CACHETS AUTHORIZED FOR NEW SERVICE ON ROUTE 97 The Post Office Department announced March 31 that air mail service will be inaugurated on Route AM-97, between Washington, D. C., Baltimore, Md., Easton, Md., Cambridge, Md., Salisbury, Md., Ocean City, Md., Georgetown, Md., Dover, Del., and \Vilmington, Del., on or about April 25; and on or about May 15 at Rehoboth Beach, Del. and Cape May, N. J. Service at Ocean City, Md., will not be inaugurated at this time, and an announcement will be made when service is inaugurated at this point. Special cachets will be provided for Washington and Air Mail Field, Wash., Baltimore, Easton, Cambridge, Salisbury, Georgetown, Rehoboth Beach, Cape May, Dover, and Wilmington, and the usual treatment of philatelic mail will be authorized. 11 Trend of Air Mail Stamp Prices Traced From New Scott's Specialized Catalogue llr by GEORGE D. KINGDOM he issuance of the 1949 Edition of Scott's United States Stamp Catalogue Specialized provides an opportune time to note, review and comment on the prices and valuations of United States air mail stamps during the past year. This article will only review in detail those portions of the specialized, catalogue dealing with air mail stamps, and will not only record price changes, but will at the same time set forth the prices at which various issues have been offered by dealers in the philatelic magazines, as they were noted by the writer at various intervals during the past year. Writing generally of the catalogue, it certainly is an encyclopedia of information and data concerning all United States stamps, first day covers, revenues, envelopes, etc., which every serious collector should own to intelligently pursue his hobby. An examination of the section of the catalogue devoted to Air Post Stamps reveals that there is little change in the valuations of the first issue ( 1918 ) excepting the increase to $4, for a single copy of the 24c invert ( C3a ) which raises the valuation by $500 over last year. As to the 6c orange ( C 1 ), a mint single has been reduced 25c and used single raised 25c, now cataloguing $2.50 and $2.00 respectively. A block of four mint has been reduced about 10 % to $11.00 and similarly a block of four used has been increased to $ Retail dealers offered this stamp, single and mint at from $1.35 to $2.50 for superb copy, the average being $1.75; the average price for single and used was $1.25.
