3 INTRODUCTION CSG Actuarial, LLC ( CSG ) has prepared this edition of Competitive Intelligence Guide: Senior Dental to provide our clients with a comprehensive overview of the Senior Dental marketplace. The guide contains information on the major companies actively marketing Senior Dental insurance, including company information, product benefit comparisons, underwriting data, and premium rate comparisons. The Senior Dental marketplace is a rapidly evolving market and having timely competitive intelligence can be a valuable tool. As the population continues to age, Senior Dental Insurance becomes more necessary. Between years 2008 and 2050 the aggregate population of year olds will dramatically increase 1, and as Medicare has no dental care coverage most will experience this severe shortfall firsthand. According to the Center for Diseases Control and Prevention s 2009 Health Survey on the U.S. population of 302 million 2 : The year old population will increase from 6% in 2007 to 9% by The 75 year old and older population will increase from 6% in 2007 to 11% in The percent of the senior population with a dental visit in the past year has risen 5.3% since 1997, with the largest increase being females 65 and over. Geographically, the average increase in senior population dental visits was 2.95% from 1997, with the largest increase in the Southern region at 6.3%. With nearly 30% of aging adults possessing untreated tooth decay and approximately 25% of year olds suffering from severe gum disease, dental insurance can save insured s from more serious conditions related to mouth bacterium including heart disease, stroke, and septicemia. 3 Insurance companies are recognizing a growing niche market in Senior Dental insurance. As the population ages, more insurance companies will enter the senior dental arena, and carriers, brokers, and agents need to be prepared with the latest competitive information. The benefits of this competitive intelligence report include shortening the product development timeline, identifying competitive advantages/disadvantages, and reducing marketing research costs. The report is entirely self-contained so that the user can conveniently access the information needed to make actionable decisions regarding their business. The information provided has been obtained from public sources and every attempt has been made to verify the accuracy of the data. However, CSG does not guarantee or warrant the accuracy of the information provided in this report. The report is updated quarterly so that the information is always up to date and still relevant.
