WHO ARE WE? ERASMUS+ is the EU's programme to support education, training, youth and sport for the period The Office is responsible for the local management of the international dimension of the higher education aspects of programme in Algeria. The main activities of the NEO include: informational support regarding the programme as well as other relevant programmes, assistance in partner search, coordination of the Team of Higher Education Reform Experts (HEREs), promotion and dissemination activities as well as monitoring closed Tempus projects and closed/ongoing CBHE & ICM projects.

2 THE NEO MOVED TO NEW OFFICES Visit of the EU Delegation and MESRS to the NEO new offices On the 13th of March 2018, The CRTI Director and the NEO Coordinator received representatives from the EU Delegation in Algiers and the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education (MESRS), to the new NEO Offices in Cheraga, Algiers. MONITORING & CBHE RELATED VISITS 21/02/2018 : The NEO attended the Kick off meeting of the first CBHE project coordinated by an Algerian Higher Education Institution "ANLMed".This project will be coordinated by the University of Sciences and Technology Houari Boumediène (USTHB). 07/03/2018: The NEO conducted a Monitoring visit of CBHE project "DIREMED" at Sétif 2 University with the presence of the project coordinator Mr. Scalisi, the Director of UNIMED. 15/03/2018: The NEO conducted a Monitoring visit of CBHE project "AFREQEN" at the Ecole e Supérieure Agronomique (ENSA) in Algiers. 18/04/2018: The NEO conducted a Monitoring visit of International Credit Mobility (ICM) projects at Béjaia University. 19/04/2018: The NEO conducted a Monitoring visit of CBHE project "INSTART" at Béjaia University. 06/05/2018: The NEO conducted a Monitoring visit of CBHE "RISE" at Laghouat University. 31/05/2018: The NEO conducted a Monitoring visit of CBHE project"satelit" at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific research in Algiers. 20/06/2018: The NEO attended the Conference of the CBHE project "AFREQEN" at the Ecole e Supérieure Agronomique (ENSA) in Algiers. In January 2018, the NEO moved to its new offices located at the Industrial Technologies Research Center (CRTI) in : CRTI - BP 64, route de Dely Ibrahim, Cheraga, Algiers, Algeria. CAPACITY BUILDING IN HIGHER EDUCATION (CBHE) & INTERNATIONAL CREDIT MOBILITY (ICM) The mandate of the Office covers the monitoring and follow up of Capacity Building in Higher Education Projects as well as International Credit Mobility projects where Algerian Higher Education Institutions are involved.

3 INFO SESSIONS & TRAINING PROMOTION AND DISSEMINATION ACTIVITIES 08/01/2018: Training session with Tizi Ouzou University International Office staff regarding International Credit Mobility & CBHE projects. 15/04/2018: The NEO animated a training Session at the University of Alger 1. Along with monitoring visits, one of the main missions of the NEO is to organise events, such as information sessions and trainings. The NEO has also collaborated with other relevant programs such as : H2020, EU Neighbouhood South and promoted partners such as :DAAD Tunisia, UNIMED.. 18/04/2018: Training session with Béjaia University International Office staff regarding International Credit Mobility projects. Assistance to potentiel candidates & beneficiaries 22/04/2018: The NEO team animated an Information Session at the University of Alger 2. The NEO has received many University representatives & students at the Office and explained the program to them in more depth, has offered guidance regarding what opportunities are offered to them within the program. The NEO has also answered to queries received by s and messages through social media platforms. 30/04/2018: Training session with the Vice Rector in charge if External Relations of the University of Béjaia at the NEO premises. Cells at Universities 07/05/2018: Info Day at the University of Laghouat After the visit of the NEO, some universities have created their own Cell that are dedicated to the management of the projects at an institutional level : 15/05/2018: Info day at the Ecole Normale Supérieure Agronomique (ENSA), Algiers. 03/07/2018: Work meeting with ONEFD (Ministry of Education) regarding & e-twinning programs

4 Other activities 29-30/01/2018 : Grant Holders meeting CBHE projects in Brussels, Belgium 31/01/2018 : NEOs coordination meeting in Brussels, Belgium 3o/01/2018 : Mr. Berrah & Mr. Yahiaoui from the Algerian Embassy in Brussels received the Algerian delegation who particpated at the Grant Holders meeting in Brussels : the NEO staff, Ms Kebri & Ms Boudehane, Mr. Chikh from USTHB & Mr. Benachnhou from Mostaganem university 27-28/06/2018 : A Technical Assistance Mission (TAM) has been co-organized by the University of Sciences and Technology of Oran (USTO) and the NEO. The theme was "Internationalisation of Algerian Higher Education Institutions through teaching of foreign languages for specific purposes" This Mission has been animated by the Expert Mr. Kevin Guillaume from ARES and was attended by officials of USTO. This event was attended on a large scale by Vice rectors in charge of External Relations representing Universities from the Ouest of Algeria, HEREs & 3 representatives from the University of Cadiz /07/2018 : 4th policy dialogue on Higher Education with Southern Mediterranean countries "Ensuring quality of teacher education" in Brussels, Belgium. This event was attended by Ms. Kebri from the NEO, Mrs. Abdelatif, Mr. Chikh, Mr. Zendagi from 3 Algerian Universities & Mr. Benramdane, Mr. bouaziz, Mr. Tebboub from the Ministry of Education & Mr. Mokrani, Mr. Yahiaoui, Mr. Chaib from the Diplomatic Mission of Algeria to the EU.

5 I s s u e N o. 1 J a n u a r y - J u l y Cooperation with the EU delegation in Algiers 09/05/2018 : visit at the EU delegation in Algiers on the occasion of "Journée de l'europe" 23/05/2018 : Meeting with representatives from the EU Delegation and the CRTI at the NEO Office, Cheraga, Algiers 19/06/2018 : Consultation for new 2018 CBHE projects with the EU Delegation and the Ministry of Higher Education Intra-Africa Programme The NEO has contributed to the promotion and dissemination of "ACADEMY". The Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme supports Higher Education cooperation between countries in Africa. For the first time, an Algerian Higher Education Institution will coordinate an Intra-Africa project. The University Abou Bekr Belkaid of Tlemcen will coordinate the project "ACADEMY" (African Trans-Regional Cooperation through academic mobility). This project was awarded in 2017 and is a five- year project. It is an initiative of five public universities from three African regions and one university in Europe as the Technical partner. The general objective of ACADEMY is to contribute to the promotion of cross-regional continental integration, sustainable and inclusive development. More specifically, it intends to create an open platform as a key instrument for innovation, knowledge sharing and dissemination of good practices within the participating institutions. The other partners in the consortium are : University of Ibadan in Nigeria, University of Cape Coast in Ghana, Kenyatta University in Kenya, the University of KwaZulu-Natal and the University of Porto in Portugal as the technical partner.
