10 Communications/ Public Relations/ Event Management Internship Organization: Kansas Hispanic & Latino American Affairs Commission Job Title: Fall Communications Intern Categories: Internships Location: 900 S.W. Jackson, Suite 100 Topeka, KS Organization Type: Kansas State Commission Employer: Kansas State Reports To: Executive Director Compensation: $9 to $11 per hour, depending on experience Length: This internship is set up for a semester. Students may apply for up to three semesters. We accept applications throughout the year, to meet KHLAAC s needs. Hours per week: Up to 25 hours per week, based on student s course work and KHLAAC s needs. Intern s Responsibilities: The KHLAAC Communications Intern has a visible and key role in the work of the Kansas Hispanic & Latino American Affairs Commission. S(he) works closely with the Executive Director and members of the Commission to advance strategy and meet objectives. The intern will have an opportunity to work with representatives from a variety of industries; non-profits; the community and government bodies. Some of the intern s major duties are listed below: Manage events for specific upcoming initiatives as planned by the Commission such as Hispanic Day at the Hill; Hispanic Business Forum; Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation signing. Develop agendas, invitations, minutes, articles and promotional materials to support events sponsored and organized by the Commission. Update media contact list and identify new media outlets. Edit, review, and proofread materials. Draft and update Facebook content once a week or as needed to support planned initiatives. Participation in planning and implementing of marketing and promotions for KHLAAC events. Assist in database management and web-based research projects. Maintain professional relationships with Technical Advisors and Commissioners to help drive participation and enhance partnerships. Potential marketing opportunities including research and design. Potential outreach opportunities to work on traditional and social media campaigns. Other duties, as assigned.
