Main Yreka, CA Calendar 2006 August Fashion Revue Fashion Revue is scheduled for August 12 th, at the Siskiyou 6 4-H Horse Show (Fair Show) Golden Fair. Judging will take place at 11am in the Home 9-13 Siskiyou Golden Fair Ec. Building. The Fashion Show/Modeling will begin at 12 4-H Fashion Revue at the Fair 1:30pm in the Home Arts Building. September 4 4-H Office Closed Tulelake-Butte Valley Fair 7-10 Tulelake Butte Valley Fair The Tulelake-Butte Valley Fair will be hosting a Livestock 20 County Record Book Deadline Judging Contest on Friday, September 8 th, 2006 at October 8:00am. Area 4-H clubs are encouraged to attend and 1-7 National 4-H Week participate in the contest. If you would like more WHY Conference information please contact the 4-H Office. Event Letter on PDR Pre-Fair U 4-H Horse Show The 4-H horse show will be a two day event. 4-H trail classes and the new Ranch horse class will be held on Friday, August 4 starting at 5pm. Sunday events will start at 8am with Gymkhana and Jumping classes followed by performance classes. Don t forget club awards will be presented for Best Educational Display, Clean Barn, and Best Decorated Stalls. The Siskiyou County 4-H Horse Show is a costly event. Any donations or contributions toward the 4-H Horse Show would be greatly appreciated. All sponsors and contributors will be announced during the show, and will also have their names listed in our show program. Donations and sponsorships should be made to Siskiyou County 4-H Horse. They can be dropped off at the County 4-H Office, or mailed to Robin Wood, 4-H Horse Show, Callahan Road, Gazelle, CA, Old McDonald s Farm Each year at the Siskiyou Golden Fair, local 4-H clubs provide members that work at Old McDonald s Farm. Please remember to have your group of workers show up 5 minutes early for their shift. All proceeds from the booth go toward 4-H scholarships and annual awards. If you as an individual can help out during any of the open shifts we would greatly appreciate the support. 2 Season Passes are available for parents and leaders of junior livestock exhibitors. Passes can be purchased at $10.00 per person. Livestock Weigh-In Schedule Wednesday, August 9 th 8am-12 noon Market Swine 8am-12 noon Market Rabbits 11am-12 noon Bred Beef Replacement Heifers 12noon-2pm Market Steers 12noon-4pm Market Poultry 2pm-4pm Market Lambs Preg Check Wednesday, August 9 th 11am-12 noon Bred Beef and Dairy Replacement Heifers Ultrasound All market steers, swine and sheep will have ultrasound performed at weigh-in. This is a mandatory program. Results may be used by the judge, at the judge s discretion. Livestock Bedding First bedding of straw will be available for all livestock exhibitors. You will need to bed your own pen/stalls upon arrival to the fairgrounds. If you would like to use alternative bedding materials you are welcome to do so at your own expense. Pen/Stall Cleaning Each space used by each exhibitor must be kept clean and its general appearance must be neat at all times. The aisles in all barns are to be clear of grain, hay manure and bedding. All stalls and pens, junior and senior, must be cleaned by 8:00am each day. NO EXCEPTIONS. New! All Ag. Hort, Floriculture and Food entries must be delivered to the fair on Tuesday. Siskiyou Golden Fair Reminders! Theme: Country Fun Gotta Get Me Some JUNIOR LIVESTOCK EXHIBITOR CODE OF CONDUCT Exhibiting livestock at the Siskiyou Golden Fair is a privilege and must be respected as such. To that end, all junior exhibitors who wish to sell and/or show at the Siskiyou Golden Fair must adhere to the Code of Conduct to be eligible to participate in the fair. This Code of Conduct covers conduct of the exhibitor from the Monday before opening day of the fair through Sunday, the last day of the fair. Violations of the Code of Conduct will not be tolerated. An investigation of alleged violations will be conducted and a decision rendered by the appropriate involved parties according to the Code of Conduct Protocol. Violations may result in loss of right to sell animals at the auction. 1. All junior livestock exhibitors will refrain from any use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco or obscene language during the Siskiyou Golden Fair. They will also refrain from being in the company of minors who are using alcohol, drugs, tobacco or obscene language. 2. All junior livestock exhibitors will treat their animals in a safe and humane manner. Their animals will have the necessary feed and water during the entire time they are at the fairgrounds. 3. All junior livestock exhibitors will keep their animal pens clean and free of hazards at all times. 4. All junior livestock exhibitors will treat adults, especially those in authority, with respect. 5. All junior livestock exhibitors will follow all local and state rules that apply to their particular project(s). 6. All junior livestock exhibitors staying in the fair s RV Park or visiting friends in the fair s RV Park will abide by all curfews and all other RV Park rules. 7. No junior livestock exhibitors will allow an adult to perform the junior exhibitor s duties including fitting an animal for show, cleaning pens, feeding or watering. Junior exhibitors may exchange duties with fellow club members or fellow junior exhibitors as a matter of team work. Violation: Auction Rules Report to: Livestock Superintendent Decision Made By: Auction Executive Committee 1. All alleged violations will be charged through a written form available at the Livestock Office or Fair Administration Office. No oral complaints will be investigated, unless reported by Fair security staff to Fair Management. 2. Witnesses to the alleged violations will be contacted and interviewed. For Code of Conduct violations, witnesses may be asked to appear before the Conduct Committee in front of the accused. Conduct Committee consists of the Fair CEO, Livestock Superintendent, and one member of the Fair Board. It is in the sole discretion of the Conduct Committee whether to hold a hearing. 3. All decisions made by the CEO regarding RV Park violations will be final. Concerns regarding the CEO s decisions may be forwarded to the Siskiyou Golden Fair Board of Directors for their next regular meeting. To be placed on the agenda, contact the Fair office immediately to meet state open meeting law time requirements. 4. All decisions made by the Conduct Committee will be final. Concerns regarding the committee s decisions may be forwarded to the Siskiyou Golden Fair Board of Directors for their next regular meeting. To be placed on the agenda, contact the Fair office immediately to meet state open meeting law time requirements. 5. All decisions by the Junior Livestock Auction Executive Committee are final. Concerns regarding the committee s decisions may be forwarded to the full 10th District Junior Livestock Auction Committee for their next regular meeting. The auction committee is a separate private non-profit organization that conducts the auction at the Fair. 6. All judges decisions are final and cannot be protested.

3 2006 Statewide Postal Shoot Siskiyou County hosted the 22 nd Annual California 4-H Statewide Postal Shoot. The participation from leaders, members and parents to help organize, label and score the targets was greatly appreciated. Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were presented to the top shooters in each category and age division. In addition, Siskiyou County won high team honors in Telescopic and Open Sight Rifle and.22 Hand Guns. Congratulations! One purpose of the taskforce is to increase awareness and knowledge of staff and volunteers in the areas of: linguistic, economic, cultural, gender, age, and racial diversity within California and develop a statewide plan of action. Our first step will be to conduct an organizational assessment, and other goals will be identified by committee members. The group will meet a minimum of three (3) times this upcoming program year, starting in October. 4 The 2007 National 4-H Conference will be held March 24-30, 2007 at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, MD. 4-H members (ages 15 and above), volunteers, and staff are encouraged to apply for this exciting opportunity for national 4-H programming. Applications are due September 30, 2006 and available at: For Youth: The 4-H Beekeeping Essay Contest, sponsored by the Foundation for the Preservation of Honey Bees, Inc., has announced the rules and essay topic, Pollinator Conservation, for this year s essay contest. There will be three cash prizes for the national winners: 1st - $250; 2nd - $100; and 3rd - $50. Each state and national winner will receive an appropriate book about honey bees, beekeeping, or honey. Completed California essays must be received on or before February 16, 2007 by Dr. Eric Mussen, Entomology Department, University of California, One Shields Avenue, Davis, CA The winning state essay will be forwarded to the national competition. Results will be announced on May 1, For Clubs/Groups: Through REAL 4-H! (Refresh the Environment with Action Leaders), National 4-H Council is offering mini-grants to engage youth in hands-on, science-based, experiential learning that will develop and enhance their ability to identify and understand environmental issues in their communities while enabling them to provide leadership toward solving the issues. Through this collaboration of 4 H and Coca-Cola, grants will be awarded to county-based 4-H programs in one of three categories: water (water quality, water conservation, and/or watershed protection), recycling, or community beautification (including litter abatement). The Computer Corps is composed of youth (ages 15 and above), volunteers, and staff. The Computer Corps administers the state 4-H website ( conducts computer trainings around the state, and helps 4-H clubs design web pages. Financial support may be requested for amounts up to $5,000 for projects that contain both components of service-learning: community service and education. Applications are due September 22, The California 4-H Youth Development Program seeks 4-H members to help staff the 4-H display booth at the California State Fair from August 11-September 4, The display booth informs the public about today s 4-H Youth Development Program and its benefit to youth and communities. Small 4-H projects are welcome to accompany you (rabbits, arts/crafts, service dogs, examples of community service, record books, etc.). If you are interested, leave a message on the State Fair volunteer line at or send an to state-fair-vols@ucdavis.edu. Please include in your message: name, phone number, dates/times you are available to volunteer, and number of people in your group. Groups are booked for two-hour shifts with up to six people per shift. Any group with youth under 18 must also have two adults (18 years +) volunteering with them in the booth. For Youth: Angel Soft s Angels in Action Awards Program aims to recognize children and youth who are performing exemplary acts of community service. For the first time since the program's inception, one outstanding child or teen will be awarded $15,000 for "Program of the Year." Two grand prize winners (one from each age category of 8-15 and 16-18) will receive $10,000 and ten finalists (five from each age category) will receive $1,000.
